pretty cheap and smallish for a weapon mounted cam as well

I'm thinking this unit would be ideal for our squads needs - but how would we affix this to a weapon? I can see it has a mount to fit directly to helmet rails. Is there an adaptor so it will also fit on a weapon rail or maybe the helmet mount can be detached?

The Element helmet light comes with a copy of that TD rail mount: http://www.yzh.hk/en_ArticleShow.asp?ArticleID=5015

They're also making a rather bulky ARC rail mount for it: http://www.yzh.hk/en_articleshow.asp?articleid=6152

I just bolted the little clip directly onto the rail:
