With just the 2" version missing from their lineup, the new M66 by Tokyo Marui just came up on Tokyo Model Company:

4"

6"

The 2" version which I'm sure will pop up soon enough sports the same synthetic grips as the 4" model. Personally I like the blued model 19 better which is still yet to be given a release date but I'm also waiting on the Marushin S&W 586 release competing for the ultimate .357 service revolver. It's very likely though that I'll wind up getting both in the end.

I'd prefer M19 for 'nam or even an M10 or 1917 for ww2 and 'nam. that price isn't too far off a tanaka version of any of those, and its enough for a KJ 1911a1 and a couple of spare mags.

Because I have nothing to compensate for

Think about that, and why you might want to re-phrase, for a second longer...

Got to play with these at a local shop today. Very disappointing! I was looking forward to picking up the 2.5" or 4" M19, but after handling them and talking to the shop clerk, I had to pass.

The guns are just like the Pythons, with no real improvements at all. They're very light weight, look and feel very plasticky, the triggers and hammers feel soft and spongy (not at all crisp or positive), and the power and gas efficiency are still very lacking. Long story short, save your cash and get a Tanaka M19 - you'll be much happier with it (even the standard, light-weight Tanaka 2.5" M19 is loads better than the TM versions).

At least that part could still be addressed by using green gas.

Green gas can only do so much - it's not capable of miracles! I'd be willing to bet that any newer TM GBBs running 134a will still out-shoot a TM revolver on green gas.

I understand your concern in that you're living in Japan as games there are no different from the ones in Hong Kong. But also understand that some of us don't necessarily want the fastest shooting pistol with the most rounds and fps. We just want a good looking service revolver.

Shooting test by Tokyo Model

SA trigger pull looks to be fine. DA could be mushy, but then again that's DA. 213fps on 134a would mean around 260-270fps on green gas if it behaves anything like their Python.

Cow, I don't play much in Japan - since I prefer objective-based milsim-type games to the spray-and-pray capture-the-flag games popular in Asia. I base my opinions of game practicality and reliabilty on my 15+ years of airsoft experience in the US (playing in HI, CA, ID, UT, NV, TX, TN, etc.).

And while I like a good-looking sidearm as much as the next guy - I also like knowing my sidearm will work if I need it in a game. I don't feel confident that the Marui revolvers have the power/range/accuracy to be reliable back-up guns in a game environment (at least not any games beyond back-yard skirmishes).

If you want to buy one, cool... Good luck, I genuinely hope you are happy with your purchase!

But, as one of the only people on this board to handle and shoot these guns so far, I'm giving my honest opinion... I was very disappointed in them, and I'd recommend that buyers beware.

By the way... Be careful not to lose the shells! Even here in Japan you can't buy spares from Marui - you have to buy custom after-market shells that cost $50+USD per set!

The Marui M66 you handled has removable shells? Are you sure it wasn't a Crown M66 you handled? TM never made their revolvers with removable shells although there is the Angs power up shells which are removable but needs modification to the gun to fit. I've made the same kind of modification to my KWC Python using Marushin shells which also applies to the TM model which increases performance at the cost of holding only 1 bb per shell: http://www.arniesairsoft.co.uk/forums/index.php?/topic/201480-colt-python-x-cartridge/

Personally I'm still waiting for the Marushin M586/686 before deciding on a new revolver. But I'd disagree on your view of it being short of unskirmishable. Even with 134a it just about matches AEP specs and plenty of people field those as backups without too much complaint.

Yes, I am 100% certain it was a Marui M66 I was checking out.

As for the removable shells, I didn't try taking them out (Japan gun shops are real weird about stuff like that), but the shop clerk did say they were removable. However - they also had custom replacement shells by Carome(?) in the display case... So he may have meant it can be modified to have removable shells (like the ANGS modification). I am not entirely certain about the details of how much (if any) modification is necessary to have removable shells. I just know that if you do remove them, spares aren't cheap or easy to get!

And I'm not trying to talk you out of buying one... It's your money - get whatever floats your boat!

I'm just warning you (and others), they are very toy-like and I was extremely disappointed by them (enough so that I walked into the shop intendng to buy one and, after handling/firing it, walked out empty-handed with no regrets). I'm normally a big fan of Marui's guns, but their revolvers are consistently a rare let-down for me. I had high hopes they'd revised and/or improve their revolvers with the new S&W series - but, sadly, they're just the same old Marui Colt Pythons in a different shell.

Real-steel K-frame grips attach to the frame by by a screw that goes through the middle of the grips... Modifying them to properly fit and securely attach to a TM revolver will be no small task! Also, make sure you get the right grips - real-steel K-frames come in both round-butt and square-butt configurations. Round-butt grips won't fit a square-butt frame (and vice versa).
