Skarclaw
Months and months ago now I was taking parent's dog for a walk past this old quarry that I used to play in when I was younger, and was pleased to see that a planning application had been lodged to use the site for airsoft skirmishes. Anyway over the weekend I took the dog out again and saw some activity down there, did a bit of facebooking and ended up going for a tour of the site yesterday. The group are mostly ex Para's who are using the quarry for a variety of things, one bloke is doing dog sniffer courses, another bloke pyro courses, and of course there is the skirmish site. So far the manage Roy has spent the last few months constructing a village, and it's shaping up to be a pretty nifty cqb/fibua layout. Work is continuing to expand the site, at the moment I think it would suit a 12-30 players. As for skirmishing - Roy outlined a pretty basic staggered attack/defend (when a defender gets hit they retreat to the next stage, and so on) as well as a desire to run milsims (although I expect it will be regular skirmishes with a milsim flavour) as well as training courses. At the moment it's a work in progress (I suppose most sites are never really "finished") and fairly small. I think it would be ideal for short, fast paced games not to mention pistol and shotguns / gas + spring only would be great here! Site has it's first open day on the 26th, I think. Here's their facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/Pathfinder.Mil.Sim/ and website: http://pathfinderairsoft.wixsite.com/quarry On to the site. Copy paste: 51.042688, -1.677559 into google maps for the location. Pictures: Working east to west, on the eastern side the quarry has a fairly substantial depression which allowed for water run off back when it was operating. There's a bunch of bunkers here, the last pic shows the view from the village looking east towards the bunkers. All the buildings are made out of wood, but they are getting concreted over time as a few have already been. This pic shows most of the village, looking south Village looking west: That cliff roughly in the centre of the image will be where a marshall is positioned. Village looking east (from a distance). It is planned that the village will continue to extend up into this area. The aforementioned "cliff" also has a nice bit of flat ground which will be used for camping should people wish to stay the night before:
