I've grown very fond of my M4 and its slide stock setup. This is a source of problems since I want to have an upgraded rifle and I don't want to have the battery hanging off the gun in a bag or with tape. I've been trying out various solutions, but the best one so far seems to be the "Right M4 Foregrip", available at WGC Shop or DEN. The Product : As with many other third party accessories, the grip comes in a nondescript brown cardboard box. It's very easy to assemble and the instructions are clear, albeit in Japanese. It replaces the normal front grip and the metal ring that holds it. It's held in place by a long pin, replacing the one that goes through the front part of the receiver. The battery lies flat within the bottom part of the grip. It comes with a replacement fuse box, as seen in the pic:
Barrel wobble : I was a bit nervous about hanging a heavy battery on the front of my M4, given their problems with barrel wobble. However, because of the way the grip is fitted to the M4 receiver, it actually totally fixes the barrel wobble problem, making the front assembly very rigid. Battery Space : It fits a 9.6 V large battery without any problems whatsoever. This was a pleasant surprise, as the product info only promised space for a 8.4 volt. Construction : Very thick ABS for the bottom grip. It's bit shiny, but it looks good. The top is metal in a very neat powder black finish. Looks : It looks very brutal and menacing. With the addition of a suppressor tube, it has a lot of MP5SD/M4 hybrid look to it that I really like:
Cons : Recharging : In order to recharge your battery you need to unscrew the top part. I'm a bit nervous about this, as one if the screws is replacing one of those that holds the barrel in place (see diagram). In the long run it may wear out the threads of the M4 part it's screwed into. I'm thinking about modding the grip to include a charging port to get around this. Mag clamps : Because of the way the grip extends towards the rear of the receive it's in the way of a second mag if you use mag clamps. This is easily fixed with a small saw without compromising stability.
Looks : It doesn't look like a real fore grip. This may put off purists. On the other hand it DOES look like a weapon. External Links: TBA Site links: TBA Comment on this review in the forums Last modified: Monday, June 2, 2003 6:17 PM Copyright 2003 ArniesAirsoft
