M4: serial rape victim.

You'd think she would learn by now, wouldn't you?

Maybe a can of Tactical RIS-Capable Mace would be of better use than another knockoff surefire and a fake PEQ box ....

Lemme clarify, its your gun, you're more than welcome to stick any amount of tactical equipment to it that you like, and I do rape the hell outta some of my guns anyway so I can't exactly take the `moral high ground` in this issue, if indeed there actually is one. Mine are only for display and silliness though, like the Gigant Neo

But, in my opinion, and this is gonna offend a lot of people I'm sure, the use of accesories in a skirmish is counter-productive and, frankly, just plain silly tongue.gif

The M4 is not always to blame of course, but she lies at the centre of a web of inappropriate accesorizing, so I use her as an example and have the following to say:

the number of people who physically skirmish with them = unbelievable

the equipment = unnecessary

the look of the guns = spoiled

the flagrant excess to which people apparently go to show off how much they can spend on one gun = ludicrous

my care for them = switched - to some `bare-naked` rifle with, perhaps, just maybe, either a foregrip or a grenade launcher if its really necessary.

That is it, no bipod, no box mag ('cept a SAW/GPMG), no tac lights (a lot of bloody use in a forest they are anyway, I must say), no laser, no McChicken sandwich, no courtesy car, no box full of paperclips, no tactical *fruitcage* ing flashlight/laser/automatic pencil sharpener combo meal - NO *fruitcage* ING NOTHING!!!

Ahem.

And the reason for this little outburst? Well, its all about hypocrisy, see.

The folks with gigantic budgets to spend on airsoft - apparently just for one gun - are most often the geardos who get all the cool looking tac gear and go for an authentic loadout. Now that is pretty cool although not to my taste, and I have nothing but admiration for anyone who gets off their lazy *albartroth* and creates an authetic look.

The dedication to that look would imply, fairly I would say, that realism is the key thing, an authentic look for an authentic feel to the day's play, and the authenticity should be making that player feel like a real soldier, or like they can properly play soldiers at least, and basically they are striving for realism all the way.

I reckon thats a fair assumption, n'est-ce pa? Please do tell me if you're a geardo who doesn't want to act like a soldier, I would be interested to hear the logic behind it smile.gif

Sooooo, getting finally to my point here; and this entry is the result of a process of deduction and one in which I hope no error has been made. Please virtually kick my *albatross* if I've got it wrong wink.gif ; the realism is key, a large proportion of real hardcore geardos have massively raped M4s or other guns hugely raped, yet that actually prohibits them from acting like real soldiers.

Why?

Ever carried a fully raped M4 into a skirmish? The weight of the thing prevents you from doing pretty much anything at all, its a cumbersome ponderous hindrance, and does nothing to help you actually win, far from it, it makes you unable to be as mobile as some common oik with an unraped Marui Beta-Spetznaz who, due to having a light and maneouverable gun, is now behind your sorry *albatross* and filling you and your mates with plastic.

Uh oh.

So I just don't get it, I really don't. I know for a fact that on average us airsofters are not the fittest or most generally athletic bunch of people - nothing compared to serving soldiers, absolutely nothing at all - and there are so few people you can see in a days gaming who actually make the effort anyway and go for a run at the enemy base, or sprint into position before the other guy, or do any real soldierly grunt-work at all, in fact! The proliferation of tactically raped guns is obvious and I have yet to see anyone with such a gun do anything apart from sit in a bush all day or spend most of the time in a dead zone.

So why be a hypocrit and strive for realism in all that you do, but then pick a gun thats heavier than your own torso and be forced to act like a civilian the whole day because of it?

Doesn't make any sense to me ....

**no geardos were harmed in the making of this entry, although I may be harmed as a result wink.gif **

First off...I *am*, whilst loathe to admit it, something of a geardo. Whilst I don't have the superiority complex that seems to come with spending a small fortune on gear, I do like to create themed loadouts - usually based on movies like Tears of the Sun or Bad Boys or the Punisher etc etc.

I'm not out to create dead on screen accurate loadouts - I'm quite happy to use Viper kit so long as it looks 'ok' and creates the right 'impression.

On the second point - I've got several accessories for my m4 - a box mag, an M203, and an aimpoint. I don't use them all at once, though - the box mag or the m203 are mutually incompatible and will be selected prior to 'game on' depending on the role I'm playing. M203 for assault, box mag for defence.

Fair do's dude, thats more-or-less what I mean: if that M4 had a laser, a foregrip, a PEQ battery box, a boxmag, a couple of surefires and then a tactical rail-mounted chewing gum dispenser then it would be totally impractical biggrin.gif

A couple of bits is fair enough in my book, I don't use lo-caps or real caps myself but personally a boxmag is a little over the top, but hey, each to their own o' course wink.gif but if that M4 just happened to be, say, a simple Uzi with nothing added to it at all - wouldn't you appreciate the extra mobility?

I know your a man who loves to throw himself around in a game, would not an aeg that allowed you to do so be lots more fun?? You can't always use a pair of pistols, after all wink.gifbiggrin.gifgun2.gif

I'm big and strong enough to find that the M4's box mag doesn't impede my movement that much, and like I said, it's usually for defence games where I'll be staying in one place and laying down a lot of fire in one direction.

I *do* appreciate mobility when I'm playing that role - if I wanna run light, I'll be carrying either the AUG or put a PDW stock on one of my MP5K's.

It's hourses for courses - think of it like golf clubs - you wouldn't use a sand wedge to make a long drive, would you?

No I wouldn't, but I might try and sneak up nearer the hole and punt it in with my foot biggrin.gif

I don't get asked to come back to many courses.

I appreciate what ya mean dude, I guess a full-sized M16 is okay (as in I might consider it) with a box mag but it should actually be weighted down with metal bodies and barrels if anything to make it a SAW, just to keep it a bit fairer for everyone, sorta thing.

The main craziness about raping guns for me is the usually massive number of perfect US Marine impressions that just never leave either their base, or the dead-zone wink.gif Its a nutty way to go about things in my book, but if you actually can carry the weight and still cartwheel around the joint like a loony then more power to you!! biggrin.gif

I totally see your point about making it a SAW - my ICS M4 actually has a full stock and will have a RIS added once I can afford it - I do wanna add a 'vertical' grip to the side rail when I can for when I tool up as a 'support gunner'.

The other major advantage is for playing at Electrowerkz - the ability to lay down sheer volume of fire without reloading is a massive tactical advantage there smile.gif

well, actually i kinda agrree with ya hippy, though coming from a man with 5 Armalites might seem abit weird...

i like the hardcore rs tactical stuff, but haven never been able to bring myself down to spending that much money on it..... in stead i go...well for that amount of $ i can have gun x !

allthough, i do have a fully dated '68 vietnam loadout (wich i have never skirmished in blink.gif ) after the 1st aircav, but compared to other people, was a lucky sod again and got most of my stuff reall cheap biggrin.gif

my usual style of loadout is more BHD like.... but with real NL desert BDU's (again dirt cheap tongue.gif) and a mil force OD tacvest, wich i love to death, co's it was only round 100$ and does what it it's supposed to do, for over 3 years without giving up on me

in the end, the gear will allways be second to the actual hardware hehehe

as for accesoires, nothing as exisiv as metal bodies and stuff, just silencers and stuff

i to have become abit bored with the all you can get onto an armalite craze

so i have

a flattop/ M4 RIS/ solid stock/ SMG barrel one

a flattop/medium RAS/Slide stock one

a A2 receiver/M500 surefire replica/ slide stock/a2 barrel one

a flattop w scope/M16 foregrip/solid stock/sniper grip/ sniper fps

a vietnam version, much sexier flashhider then the a1 tongue.gif

and it depends really on what the game is to what i use

i HAD a TM reddot that i shared between them, but offcourse i had to break it at EW bouncing assfirst off the stairs... rolleyes.gif

i tried an ultimate " But it's the l33t,hardcore,tactical delta, way of decent satirs fast...." but to no avail... unsure.gif

other then the deceast Red dot, then only thing i use is a Peq box when needed for batteries.

i have a few vertical foregrips lying around, but never really use them, unless i do them up for display, i find it very unnatural to hold an M4/M16 like that ... huh.gif but that's prolly just me lol

well, after all this, i managed to forget what i wanted to say actually...if there was a point to begin with nosleep.gif

anyway, hope this does you any good...if anything a few minutes away from harsh reality tongue.gifwink.gif

ah yes, there it is again biggrin.gif

i do have one "sin" concerning to much stuff on an M4... but i doubt you will see this as a "sin" biggrin.gif

everynow and again, i feel this strange urge... i wich is not satisfied, until i slap my ca870 sawnoff under my medium size M4 ras thingie

biggrin.gif it is my Uber gun lolz, big, hefty, cumbersome and whatnot...but you feel like Conan storming in with a ridiculously big sword !

but actually, that wasnt it either

what i wanted to say was

while i love each one of them, and will, sometime quitely, sometimes loudly, moan about new sratches and wear and so on...

During actual play, i can't seem to be bothered with it, i tend to see them as tools to and end smile.gif

not to say i'll chop down a three with it, if needed, but i tend to accept it alot better when things break during play, then when something gets *fruitcage*ed when they are just sitting at home mellow.gif

I hear you on that one man, my brand mew M8045 just betrayed its errors to me and I am p*ssed off!! If it had happened in a game it would be my fault and thats fair enough.

If you want to have 5 armalites and use them all with major accessories then fair play to ya smile.gif As long as you can still move around well enough and you still have a great day each time then its all worth it biggrin.gif

hehehe, well i never intended to own 5 of em lol, it started with one, then a second for ease of use with batteries and mags...

then i had all these bits laying around... unsure.gif

u know what i'm getting at tongue.gif

i rarely take more then 2 AEG's to a skirmish, alongside the shottie for those hero moments... and a NBB..

one can not image the satissfaction, of 20 people lying in a row behind a ditch hiding and firing at the unseen enemy, whilest stepping alongside the line, in full standing stance going : plonk, tss - tsk, plonk, ts-tsk, plonk... biggrin.gif

it effectivly stopped fire on both sides rofl.gif

it really depend what mood i'm in to wich ones i take with me
