FOR THE GLORY OF KHORNE!
Ok, so I went to London for a job interview for a DJ gig out in Greece. I have apparently got the job, but I'm not counting my chickens till I have something in writing. Keep your fingers crossed for me.
Electrowerkz was fun, despite a minor incident where I got shot in the throat - wierd angle and it got past my neoprene, and my throat went into spasms. I couldn't breath in enough air through my neoprene mask to stop the spasms and ended up in a corner quietly hyperventilating until Janno could get close enough to shield me and I could get the bloody mask off.
Sat the next game out to let the adrenaline blast fade, and reloading all my pistol mags. I love my Hi-capa - it's just so goddam accurate, I lost track of how many kills I got with it on the ground floor holding the plane.
I'm promising myself I'm going to go once a month. It's worth the bus ride, and now Janno has offered me crash space as well it makes life even easier. It's the BEST CQB site in the country and I love CQB - there's nowhere decent to do it in my neck of the woods.
The new tactical bag Hardcore and I splurged on has also stood the challenge of the journey remarkably well. Buy nice or buy twice in action I feel - £70 well spent.
I just wanted to put a couple of things into this after reading through Evilhippy's blog.
First off - Rant on stress.
One of the major reasons I airsoft is stress. I know a couple of my friends can't function without the safety valve of a game once or twice a month. There's something so tremendously satifsying about achieving an objective under fire - its a feeling that you can't really explain, but then, if I had to explain it to you, then you probably wouldn't understand anyway.
Capture the flag - top floor of electrowerkz on tuesday. We batter our way forward, and there's two guys left defending. It's just me, one other guy and Situpking left, and he takes a round to the head. The other guy is a few barrells back, so it's down to me. I creep forward to the other side of the barricade, and then rise up bellowing like the wrath of god "TAKE YOUR HIT!" Guy goes for his pistol anyway, so he gets two rounds to the thigh and goes down llike a *badgeress*. His mate starts to bring his weapon to bear, but the dude left on my team does his job and provides enough covering fire for me to grab the flag and run like a *beep* for the other end of the room.
The feeling of triumph was immense, and I felt good about it for the rest of the night - in fact, I still feel good about it now. There are certain aspects of this game, this hobby, that provide me with warm fuzzy memories no matter what - usually examples of good teamwork or cammeraderie.
Secondly - Being happy to die, and cheating.
Cheating at Airsoft is something that I can NEVER understand, possibly because my attitude is so far removed from it. We're playing a game. Most of the time, getting shot means a trip to the re-gen and a couple of minutes down time. I personally can usually use the breather. So why people don't take their hits is beyond me, as is why people hang back rather than assault.
I will very willingly dive headlong into a room, pistols blazing, and I know that what I'm doing is suicide. So long as I take out a couple of the opfor, I don't mind. Ok, it might hurt, but hey, that's what body armour is for.
It all just comes down to cowardice in my eyes - What's honourable about shooting around corners, just to keep yourself safe and dry and away from the safe zone? Nothing.
What's manly about charging in, a pistol in each hand, screaming in klingon? Everything.
GET STUCK IN YOU PANSIES!
