  1. I'll post some pics in a bit...

Regarding the problem with the mag-catch, the problem actually seems to be that the catch is made from some kind of very hard alloy but the magazine is sleeved in steel which has VERY sharp edges.

As a result, the mag catch wears out.

The mags are responsible for a LOT of the problems with Maruzen P99s IMO.

The other thing that my P99 does a lot is double feeding which I reckon is because the magazine feed lips are of a bizarre seperate design, all held together by the magazine shell.

  2. Whoever asked about the SPAS, they used a Remington m870 which was cut down to fit inside the SPAS cage.

Did you figure that out for yourself or just read it out of my post, about 3 above yours?

    You've got broadband now haven't you Sid? I've sent JPEG's bigger than that :D (that's 'dr.newstead@gmail.com'. Cheers  :whistling: )

    You've got mail. ;)

    [edit]

    Then again, maybe not. :(

I get about 1/4 of the way through sending it and I get a "Connection to server reset due to lack of activity" message.

Anybody know how to fix this or is it just that I have a 10mb or 15mb restriction on file size?

  3. It's not very easy to aim at small targets, the "ironsights" in the carry handle aren't very accurate so you gotta shoot it from the hip ;)

    Indeed.

I've seen people mount an RDS on the top of the carry-handle but it looks dreadful IMO.

Are there any pukka sights inside that top groove or do you just aim through the groove?

Might be worth fitting a basic post-and-notch setup in there?

Is that in the M41A manual you told me about earlier? I haven't actually read through most of the technical manual - it took me so long to get hold of a copy I virtually put it straight in shrink wrapping and put it in my box of Alien-related stuff ;)

    Yep.

Actually, I think I have a copy of the USCM Tech manual saved as a PDF somewhere. 50mb though.

Was one ever made with an actual TM spas 12 underneath?

Or did I imagine it?

    *deep breath*

Okay, first thing is that it's NOT a SPAS 12 shotgun built into the M41a. It's a SPAS12 cage REVERSED (look at it closely ;)) and with a shortened SPAS grip. The action is actually from a Remington wingmaster shotgun.

Popular opinion is that you can't fit an airsoft shotgun in there very easily.

The real-steel SPAS cage is metal (duh!) and is quite thin. The plastic cage on a Marui gun is a lot thicker.

So thick, in fact, that you can't get something like a Maruzen 870 internal mechanism into it.

I understand that people have completed the job by hacking away at the shotgun receiver until there was little enough of it that it would actually fit into the Marui SPAS cage.

Of course, once you've done that there's now nowhere to put the batteries.

People were looking into using LiPo batteries built into the carry-handle to power the gun. Course, if you do that then the gun is sidelined once the battery goes flat. I reckon a battery sling would be the way forward if you got the shotgun to work.

Also, none of these ideas make use of the pukka M41a kit. They all require you to build the launcher/shotgun part from scratch.

The page about the M41a on Arnies site is based on info by a guy called Phil Higgins. He's kinda famous for his LaserTag gear. He is a bit of a strange fish. The stuff he produces tends to look a bit dodgy and yet he is a stickler for detail in the work of others.

The fact that he's knocked up drawings showing an M41a with a full-sized SPAS cage and grip demonstrates that pretty well.

Oh *fruitcage* yeah I've got to watch aliens again ^_^

    Edit

Want me to get you you're slippers corpral?

    Yes please!

    Looking to my glass eye!

Apone says "Look into my eye."

He's pulling his lower eyelid down with his middle finger.

He's flipping Hudson the bird. ;)

  4. Just wondering why we can't attach stuff to PMs?

I suppose there's a vague possibility people could use the ability to send dodgy stuff to each other but they could quite easily use the PM system to arrange alternate ways to do that anyway.

I keep getting PMs from people wanting copies of pictures and documents I have.

At the moment I just post in a random thread in the test forum and add the attachment then reply to my PM with a link to that post.

    Kinda clunky.

Wouldn't it be possible to enable attachments to PMs?

  5. The one Arnie reviewed was the GBB version, the set with the surpressor, tac light, and rails.  If my word is not good enough, you can check the review comments thread for it, and it was never the NBB version.

Of course your word is good enough. ;)

I'm SURE I saw it here. The only thing I can think of is maybe there was something about it on the news page rather than a review.

    I was so sure..... :(

  6. A few times I've looked for reviews I thought were there and couldn't find them.

I was just looking for a review of the Maruzen P99 NBB. I was sure Arnie reviewed it a while back.

I can see a review of the GBB version but I can't see the NBB one.

Has it been removed for some reason or am I losing the plot?

  7. Indeed.  Curse words are the lazy tool of the weak mind.  There are plenty of other ways of getting your point across and making a far more permanent stamp on the minds of your readers than swearing at them.  I for one have never once been tempted to swear on a public forum and I feel that I have been able to get my point across whenever I have needed to without the help of the bottom rung of the linguistic ladder ;)

    Indeed.

I have no problems belittling or mocking people without resorting to obscene words. :P

In general, I do think swearing has its place. However, I think that this place IS better without it.

To be fair, though, Sp00n's not suggesting we allow swear-words. He's just asking that "fruitcage" is banished.

  8. How many images did you browse before you ran into this?  Can you see other images outside the gallery?

    Just that gallery.

When I read it was about A55 I figured I might recognise some of the faces so I had a look through it. Got about 3/4 of the way through it and all the pics were replaced by the "bandwidth" message.

I have a supposedly un-capped limit on my connection but my first thought was that the problem was with my connection so I scurried off and downloaded a bunch of MS power-toys and then uploaded some pictures to my photobucket account, all without a problem.

I just get this "bandwidth" error whenever I try to view Arnies galleries. FWIW, galleries on "other" airsoft forums still work fine.

  9. Which forum gallery is this?  Some picture host limits the network traffic through their servers, so they limit the number of times a picture can be downloaded per day.  Just try back the next day, and it should work again.  I don't think Arnie's server has this limitation though.

Ahhh... I see. So the "bandwith exceeded" message was coming from the host server, not Arnies?

    http://www.arniesairsoft.co.uk/forums/inde..._album&album=10

    [edit]

Every gallery I look at gives me the same message: "You have reached your bandwidth limit and can not view this image"

  10. Was just flicking through some of the forum galleries. I was looking through pictures of a bunch of guys at A55. I probably looked at about 30 pictures.

Then I started getting a message, in place of each photo, saying "You have reached your monthly download limit" and no more pictures were displayed.

    What's that all about?

  11. Arnie,

Here's a topic I would like you to make sticky.  I've seen it asked 5 times in a week and generally wasted a lot of Sid's time pasting and stuff.

    Ooooh.

    I'm flattered.

Just to let you know, though. There's no copying and pasting going on. It's all up here you know (tapping forehead). ;)

Seriously, maybe there should be an official "How to pull a gun apart" thread?

I'd suggest starting off by stickying a thread asking for susmissions - Idiot-proof bullet-pointed guides to how to pull a gun apart.

Once you've got a bunch of them add them to another stickied-and-locked post in the tech forum which contains all the guides so far AND tells readers how to add more (by PMing them to a mod).

  12. Do these qualify?

    P1010102Medium.jpg

First up we have an MSG90.

Based on a Marui G3 S/G1. CA metal body and cocking tube added along with First MSG90 foregrip, barrel and stock.

Internal upgrades include bushes, shims, spring, bearing spring guide, gears, piston head, nozzle and cylinder head all by Systema.

Prometheus 6.03mm barrel completes the mods.

The gun runs off 9.6v 3300mAh batteries and it shots just fine.

    Scope is a Tasco Mil-Dot 2-10x45 mounted on a Guarder high-mount.

The gun's sitting on a Marui Versapod which has been custom fitted cos I was horrified to see how ugly the original RIS mount was.

    P1010105Medium.jpg

Next we have an Academy SA80.

    It's been modified.

    A bit.

Gearbox already has metal bushes. Reshimmed. CA gears fitted. CA MP5 Spring and Systema bearing spring guide fitted.

Systema 1 piece M16 hop-up (modified) fitted along with Marui G3 SG1 barrel.

Gun has been converted to use M16 mags and has a standard 20mm RIS rail attached.

Start G36 outer barrel replaces plastic front end.

Front end modified to accept 3000mAh 8.4v batteries.

Gun has been painted with silver vinyl paint and then with semi-gloss black over the top so it looks weathered with use.

SUSAT has been gutted. Mount base binned. CA reflex scope cannibalised for parts to create high-quality RDS.

Requires riser mount to be complete.

    Hope yawl approve.

  13. For gods sake, everybody take note.

THIS is what a painted gun should look like.

None of your poncy, lovingly applied replica Marpat or Woodland, redone or touched up every time the darling gun gets dirty.

It's been painted to blend in roughly with the environment and, if the paint starts to come off, pah, so what?

That is the best looking painted gun I've ever seen. It's the only paint job I'd give any credit too.

Just a shame that the M203 isn't metal under the paint.

    Bloody lovely though.

    [edit]

To clarify, I have no idea if the M203 is actually metal or not. What I mean is that it'd look more gnarly if there was shiny exposed metal under the paint rather than blackness.

  14. FWIW, I left a can of HFC green in the boot of my car the other week and, in the heat, it swelled up and balooned out.

I wouldn't recommend storing Green in anything not designed for it, especially in summer.

  15. Triggerfingerkid, not a bad gun but whats it doin on a 1911 thread?

    Hey, guess what?

The very first pic in this thread is of an SVI. NOT a 1911. The HiCapa has as much right to be in this thread as any other gun.

    Stop acting like a knob.

Here's a pic of my WE/HFC HiCapa which I just got around to polishing the sides of the slide on.

Figured it already looked too "bling" to be a combat gun so I might as well do it properly.

  16. Regarding the grip-safety, I'll be honest and say I managed to screw mine up again after I first fixed it.

I filed a tiny amount off the metal grip safety, itself, and then, without thinking, decocked the gun with my thumb.

I felt the trigger pull through the grip safety and, next time I tried, the grip safety offered very little resistance.

That was when I decided to slice a couple of mm off the hammer spring housing instead. This has made the grip safety very solid indeed.

I still wouldn't like to deliberately try to force the trigger though. I'm sure it'd still be possible to overcome the grip safety if you tried hard.

Regarding the markings, I suspect they're laser-etched. If you look closely you can see where curved letters are made from several straight lines joined together. A lot like the writing you see on cad/cam drawings, if you see what I mean.

Only other place I've seen this in airsoft is on an ICS M4 so I couldn't comment on any other gun.

TBH, I'd love to have a look at a WA S&W but I've never had the opportunity.
