  1. I just had to buy one more AK shaped object though at moment I reckon it'll go in the 'weird things to hang on the wall' collection Will see how I feel about it once it arrives
  2. good stuff I guess the holiday monday cant have helped stevie
  3. hehe yeh welcome aboard Seal the bakelite mag dyes a lovely shade of plum BUT... I wouldnt dye it hot cos it shrinks and warps (woops!!) Cold/lukewarm dye should still work just take lot longer I'll give that a go with the inner parts that are still left in bakelite *91 050043 and *91 051348 Seal and Tumerboy were both of yours bought stateside? Just wondering if anyones had their WGC preorder ones in yet?
  4. woops me bad on top handguard - you're right it can be removed with battery still in Force of habit - I was taking it apart at same time as real one so I expect I just pulled the battery out automatically, as though it was the boltcarrier/gas-piston on real one Like you say they should clean up a lot with a bit of sanding and a restain n varnish rolled stock from real one will fit with modifications you just need to cut the rear of it to match shape of the airsoft ones If you lock stock to side of rifle and look at rear of it it the hinge at rear has an L shape to it. The lo
  5. And then there were two how are you finding it in use? I take it yours is final production version (51xxx serial rather than 50xxx one)? Any noticeale differences from one i reviewed? eg does bolt still tilt inwards if theres no battery in the gun, and is there any difference to outer barrel? ..I was told a change was to be made to outer barrel on retail ones to make production easier, so Im wondering if its still pinned in place like real one/prerelease were, or actually screws in place now? real furniture on mine is a borrow from my deact till i source a couple of sets
  6. to be honest I didnt find the trigger springs any worse than marui AK ones to work with the anti reversal i usually hold down with a glob of high melting point grease helps keep its shaft from riding up the contact on trigger switch I agree - it is pretty light on metal versus the marui switch but that goes for the ICS CA and VFC AK ones too I'd open the box to check the bevel gear isnt warped like it was on one of mine and maybe take a bit of the slack out of the shimming, but other than that Id probably leave gearbox alone and just swap out barrel and hop unit for marui ones
  7. VFC now with real aksu wood grips fitted, plum G&P midcap and the black pistol grip dyed plum edit image a bit on big size lol
  8. used one of these to make one of these so i can make some of these (aksu style cocking lever) (test cast in unfiled resin to check mould shape and shrinkage, will need to dig some harder casting resin out to do a final one)
  9. oddly enough the actual casting of front block, sight block and bolt etc I actually quite like (though id lose the too glossy finish applied to them) The ones on the guarder version are super-finished with a lot of time put into them (like gun show standard), while the real ones are rough as a badgers *albartroth* lol. So the VFC ones kinda sit in between the two extremes Thats just me being anal though, we restore bikes and can spend hours trying to keep things like the original casting marks on crankcases, carbs etc when cleaning them up Anyway enough on those, spill the beans, wh
  10. bottom one arrived today, not quite as short as the AKSU but helluva lot lighter, think my side-folding fetish is getting out of hand
  11. accordign to track n trace mine have got thru wtithout customs doing the nasty on them, so worked out at £43.30 each Dont have any of the right hand side linkage for the selector mech on them (im hoping to get a lad i know in states to make these in some sort of heavy duty plastic but he takes forever and a day)
  12. looks good but id be tempted to go for some silver gaffa tape on that stock rather than the clear stuff
  13. craig might be worth giving gunner a try hes got the Cyma metal v3 gearboxes complete with motor mount and motor for 48 dollars plus shiping Cant comment on the internals yet as Ive still to get my sample ones thru, but even just as a base for chucking a full tune up kit into they look like being a good deal (and in stock unlike most places advertising the complete marui boxes with motor mount which tends to be the prob with those) http://www.gunnerairsoft.com/
  14. as exo says try painting the existing ones (or see if you can find a powder coating place locally that can do them in a black finish that matches the receiver - powder coating is pretty tough stuff when it comes to dings and scratches and shouldnt be too expensive to get done) If you're gonna ditch them for replacement ones anyway then theres nothing to lose by having a bash (plus any replacements would probably need painted anyway to get a close match) as far as add-ons go cant think of any (maybe a real steel rear sight?) stevie
  15. nice work with the wood (and the gun itself) Not sure Id have had any fingers left to actually make use of the foregrip if i had a go at carving one
  16. Cool, good to see it finished and looks nicely put together how is it weight wise with the launcher on the front? stevie
  17. personally i like to stick em together quickly and loosely as a dry build (nothing fully tightened etc) Helps spot any awkward bits without finding somethings been tightened down just a little too much to take a step or two back and fix, and helps working out best route for wiring etc. if its your first build then a digi camera taking loads of shots of the donor marui as you strip it apart always help too stevie
  18. yeps with the AKM you get get a classic AK, and with the AKSU you get the most nasty downright evil looking gun every designed stevie
  19. yeh after i took the photo i looked atthe guarder/amarui set up and a little L shaped block set into the guarder grip to take up the play in the marui part would probably be easiest (paint it black or dark brown and it would be unnoticeable and it wont affect the trigger travel as the trigger is fully back with plenty of room to spare) the windage type bulgarian sight is neat wouldnt mind one of those meself stevie
  20. yepson mine the rear of the guard travels all the way down with a bend at the bottom and pinned by a single rivet if the real one you get is same as that then you'ld need to trim the part that bends towards the back off and probably trim the rear part of the guard too, so you end up with something a bit longer than the marui one but not quite as long as the original length of the real one (otherwise it'll snag the gearbox) stevie
  21. as an alternative to engraving bear in mind you should be able to pick up cold steel number stamps for around 7 euros a set in each size few photos of the top cover lock and cocking handle in case anyone wants to mod those cover lock side on view cover lock rear view cocking handle top down view cokcing handle viewed from rear stevie
  22. main one (full serial) on the front trunnion next to year date and arsenal stamp using 3mm stamps top cover - left hand side just right off the full serial - this one is hand scratched and around 3mm high - last 4 digits of serial bolt carrier - last 4 digits of the serial stamped in a slightly smaller size to the main serial (probably a 2.5mm or 2mm stamp) lower handguard - left hand side last 4 digits of serial using 3mm stamps thats the only external ones I can see on this one though ive seen at least a couple that have hand scratched last four digitsl on the fireselecto
  23. guarder AKSU - dry build done this afternoon loads fires etc ok so now Ive just got to strip it back down and tidy up the routing for the wiring etc pictured alongside the tula deact - theres a fair number of tiny details that should be able to mimick on the guarder one with a bit of extra work (bar the length of the receiver and the pistol grip obviously) so it might get a second strip down at some point to sort out those stevie
