  1. I had a go on the WA M4 the other day.

I must say the recoil is much better than I expected, truly a nice experience to shoot it. The gun doesn't feel right without a mag in, way too light. I noticed I could hear a slight twang on the recoil spring as it fired but it was of no big concern.

The owner told me he only loads 20 rounds per mag as any more (in typical Isle of Man weather) causes problems. Sadly before we could shoot it much more it broke - some problem with the hammer not locking back (has since been fixed).

Reading through (a good portion) of this thread, the gun has way too many problems. If they'd made CO2 mags for it I'd be half way sold on it. For me, the gun needs to be capable of rattling off a full mag in one stupidly long burst, not that I'd be doing that in the field; I just don't want to have to treat the trigger with kid-gloves.

I hear WE are bringing out a CO2 powered AK, that could fit the bill but otherwise, if I want the GBB recoil I'm going to stick with the tried and tested Sun Project (which although problematic isn't a huge PITA & money sink to sort out).

  2. I'm surprised it took as long as it did for radiusing to be mentioned. Yeah the OP was a bit biased in his but that's understandable as it needed filing to go together properly and then broke almost instantly :P And if the gearbox isn't radiused, get that file out even if your putting an M90 in there :)

As for getting 3 of the same product before to passing judgement on something? :D I'd like to see someone suggest that to... ohh say the guys in the WA M4 thread. :P

  3. You do realise that would mean a lot of work for the people running any forum (seeing the option doesn't exist in IPB software, well I've never noticed it and I know IPB very well)

All it takes is for a user to click shift and 8 together twice at the end of their 3 letter search, Is that too much trouble ?

Problem is the * doesn't always return the correct results for various reasons. As for modifying the code that's not a biggie as there's just an IF statement blocking the search, for example (and in English):

    X = 3

IF (length of search string is LESS THAN OR EQUAL to X) THEN
bounce user to "search string too short" error message
    ELSE
    action search
    END of IF statement

X just needs changing to 2 or whatever, you get the gist :)

  4. Once these aftermarket parts are made by someone and the gun can be structurally sound someone needs to then make a CO2 regulated powered mag - not for any extra power but so the gun can (potentially) fire off an entire mag in one burst. Would certainly peak my interest then :D

  5. It's all about what you're prepared to deal with. If you think this is a POS, try a SP16.

Very true, for example if you're prepared to deal with a SP M16, it's a very nice gun, sure they're a hassle but then they are a classic airsoft gun that's something like 12 years old in design. Once you got the hop-up mod and 3rd o-ring in the valve they're much better - until then they're unskirmishable. The 3rd o-ring helps with consistency so the gun can shoot more than 5 rounds without sending them all over the shop . But like you say it's all about what you're prepared to deal with. Mind you the great thing about an SP is that it takes AEG mags and doesn't suffer cool down when run on HPA.

In time the gas-in-the-mag system will improve. Aftermarket kits will improve the performance & durability and maybe once someone invents a CO2 -bulb mag (with regulator) for it it'll be able to compete with the likes of an AEG. I can't help but wonder if the reason TK hasn't released his GBB rifle is because he's having some of the same issues.

Anyway until then I'll stick with my AEGs and SP.

  6. The SP guns are great but Escort's been in a bit of trouble lately, special thanks to everyone's bestest mate SniperX

Best place to pick up an SP is at http://www.classicairsoft.org/forum/index.php but you'll be lucky to find a 416 going for sale, they were made to order.

If you decide to get an SP then make sure it's got the hop-up mod installed and a 3rd o-ring in the valve - ideally you want the vavle to be brazed also ;)

edit: vtb beat me to too, nice review btw :D

  7. ah cool the labelling looks great!

I hear that they're developing a 44mm diameter 90second smoke grenade! Sounds extremely promising if it's anything like the current ones. My only concern is when will we see coloured smoke? As we can't use white/grey,black or any distress colours at our site and so far the spectrum smokes are only available in white :( I'm hoping they address this soon as practically everyone at our site is wanting to buy their smoke grenades :o

No worries RSM your video's are cool, I find the biggest issue is actually the sound; it's hard to convey the volume and impact of the bangs

  8. Yeah the bigger thunderflash was definitely the louder of the two for us.

    samples.jpg

Here's the sample pack I got with my order. I'm told the labels are still being printed up so I got an email telling me which were which:

from right to left in the photo

2x grey capped 31mm dia. 3 shot stun grenade

    2x 42mm dia 5 shot stun grenades

    2x grey capped MK5 Thunderflashes

2x 42mm dia large crack distractor (flash distractor with a little surprise up its sleeve)

2x 31mm dia double vent high output smoke as per you tube footage

    5x MK3 Thunderflashes

    1x 31mm dia Flash distractor

1x 42mm dia double vent high output smoke

I'm also told that the 3 & 5shot stun grenades have since had their timing delays speeded up

I would really like to see an even bigger smoke grenade but the "Large Double vent" was extremely impressive, something the size of the standard military smoke grenades I can see producing a massive and impressive smoke screen :)

I weighed them all up before testing on Sunday:

    Frag grenade weight (I weighed up 7): 86g,92g,77g,68g, 84g, 82g, 82g, 73g

TLSFX weight (only had the one left to test so this could be quite wild): 94g

Large Double vent smoke, high output: 117.3g

    Double vent smoke: 82.8g

    5 Shot stun: 85g

    3 shot stun: 44.9g

    Large Crack distractor: 77.2g

    Flash distractor: 60.1g

    Mk3 thunderflash: 14g

    Mk5 thunderflash: 39.9g

Things need to be a good 75g+ to be thrown around our site but we do have some "building" areas were combat gets really close. The lighter pyros will really come into their own in these CQB environments. The Mk3 would be perfect for room entry.

I know which brand I want to buy in the future :)

  9. Yeah that's the one :) Nah I'll post my comments in here, better to keep it all under one roof :)

I had the fuse fall off on me with the "large crack distractor" (Crackle Distractor). Not quite sure what happened but I lit the fuse and it dropped out the top. I was able to relight it with a lighter I carry just for pyros :) The flash grenade failed to go off properly for us though

Actually here's the video we took at the club today - It wasn't meant as any kinda of review, just demo'ing it all to the guys so we can sort out which ones we want to buy :D

Oh the ball grenades (our primary interest) are brilliant, I can't say how impressed we are with them. Here's a pic of one with a heavy dent in it, the seam hasn't split and it's stayed totally intact (I removed the tape to check the seam)

    IMGP4603.jpg

Yeah the large stun sized grenades go nicely into 40mm/M203 pouches:

    IMGP4612.jpg

    Next to a TLSFX grenade:

    IMGP4555.jpg

You gotta love the re-cappable cap

I took one apart...because I like to take things apart:

    IMGP4536.jpg

I took the TLSFX one apart too :P

    IMGP4598.jpg

I took me some serious hacking with a knife to get the spectrum one apart, the TLSFX one wasn't very difficult and once I'd gotten the knife into the seam it split apart with relative ease. The TLSFX one has a bigger charge but delivered about the same performance as the Spectrum one...which booms were more 'bassy'.

The TLSFX one has some real fuse issues, having gone through 100 at the club (and 25 personally) we found the fuse to be about 10-20 seconds and in some rare cases longer. I've thrown at least 5 of them, waited and waited, went "oh it's a dud" only to get a boom a few seconds after that. The Spectrum ones have a much shorter fuse and are so much better for skirmishing, your opponent doesn't hear you spark up a grenade and have time to run well away.

    Marks out of 10: 9/10

As I said earlier they need to be a tad more heavy for long range grenade throwing :) They went down with the club members who went rather pyro mad the whole day. I had about 8 grenades land near me in one game (it's a sign of affection I'm sure).

edit: I'll post my thoughts on the rest tomorrow, I need my bed :P

  10. I actually can't say on the hot/cold issue, at least not 100% as I didn't pick them up as soon as they had finished generating smoke ( but on both units although fairly warm in the hand about two or three minutes after they were by no means hot enough to cause discomfort to bare skin. There is also of course the issue of the bit of flare you get off the fuse as with any pyro which I am sure you can see in the videos.

We tried the sample pack out at our club today and I tested the temperature of the large double-vent smoke grenade two seconds after it stopped. It was barely warm at all :) The ground was a little scortch from the fuse.

I love the coloured fuses and the re-cappable striker system is great. I wish the ball frag grenades were a little heavier, another 10-20g of dried peas would do it. The large double-vent smoke grenade produced a fantastic cloud of smoke in no time at all. Just hope they develope a super-huge large double vent smoke :)

edit: forgot to say, the ball grenades; we used them a lot today and they were working with the coloured fuse system. I saw a grenade spiralling over my head towards the enemy and got a nice view just as it's fuse went from green to red :) We only had one grenade not go off but I think that was because it landed fuse down in a lot of sand.

  11. Hello,

Not sure what you mean here? I think you're asking if it's internaly powered? The answer is no, it requires an external gas tank connected via the little tube coming out of the hand grip.

He means your webbing...you know that stuff you never wear :P What is it? You stick your airtank in a VN grenade bag?

Anyway, I got some bits from Daytonagun as well, they are impressively well made and extremely high in quality. I'm considering getting some more bits

  12. All 10 shots Catman? Did you not fill the gun up to capacity with BB's?

lol, for some reason it was stuck in my head that that mag only took 30 bbs  Anyway I'm able to fire off all the rounds in the mag and still have some gas left over for a few more 'dry' shots.

  13. I got one of these the other day, it's a lovely peice. However I managed to break mine on the first day (though it wasn't too hard to fix): when you pump it back the mechanisim hits a small arm which rotates the chamber down for loading, this little arm made of diecast monkey metal broke. I replaced it with a bit of aluminium I roughly fashioned to fit and now she works fine :)

I'm very pleased with mine (despite the part breaking). I'm going to try and see if I can increase the tank size; all that space in the stock going to waste - going to be tricky as the hammer mech is right there. I the nice cold weather I was able to get all 10 shots off and still have a few shots worth left in the tank. I haven't chrono'd it yet as my chrono is dead :(

  14. Having fired this very gun I can say; it's definately very nice. The stock and foregrip are especially nice to hold as they have a rubberised finish/feel to them. Personally I wouldn't pay that kind of money (lol $200? she's not going to read the forum, come clean Al!) for a custom gun such as this but then I'm definately not the type of person that would ever ever do that anyway :P

I think the reason the recoil is higher is because there's significantly less weight at the much shorter front resulting in it balancing much better in your hand. It's one helluva an experience to fire, short bursts only otherwise your vision goes complete skewif B) It's miles better than the Escort MP5 and feels oh-so solid.

Sun Project M16s are extremely great fun to fire and own, they do require an external gas tank but this is far out weighed the whole shooting experience. If you buy one stock then the mods to go for are: braised valve with 3rd o-ring and hop-up unit modification. And yes you can buy these new (see Guns N Guys) or you can buy straight from Escort/SniperX (found on the ClassicAirsoft.net forum) with the modifications done. In all honesty SniperX can be a bit of a pain to deal with, he does often seem a bit full of himself but he does come through with the goods (it'll take a while because Escort always have a back log of work).

  15. Cause i've been thinking of putting an m203 on my ICS m4 para, but couldn't think of anywhere to put the battery in a normal handguard, without just sticking to a ris launcher.

You can get batteries that go in the upper M4 foregrip area,

    http://www.wgcshop.com/pcart/shopper.php?i....6V%20Batteries

I've got that one from years ago but couldn't use it on this one as the heatshield is too narrow so I had to use a stick battery.

This should work fine if you want Ni-Mh:

    http://www.wgcshop.com/pcart/shopper.php?i....6V%20Batteries

The only issue is that you need to file/cut a little section out of the M203 in order for the battery to go in, as seen here:

    m203-batterymod.jpg

  16. Catman, where does the battey go on that?  Looks crazy enough but you should be spending more time on the .50, I wanna see it finished, might even make me come down to teh Isle of Man.

LOL :D The .50 is coming along but we only work on it when we're both there. hehe do feel free to pop over when it's done ;)

Was wondering when someone would pick up on the battery :D Atm it uses a stick battery which just just fits under the heatshield (with a few modifications). I'll be taking the front end off soon and putting it on a sun project M16/M4
