Would you say that the foam + silencer is useful in the actual game, or is the cool factor the main consideration here?

Hmm, most of the noise (from my AEG) comes from the gearbox, I don't think a silencer is worth it for me.

Do airsoft silencers have any practical value (do they actually make less noise) or are they just aesthetic?
