  1. Most likely a Khyber Pass AK, built from scavenged parts and homemade parts, mixed with a bad round or some other failure, and BOOM! Looks like the front trunnion separated from the receiver actually, but the video is so short and blurry you can't see any detail, so you can't tell exactly why it came apart. The Mujaheddin had used a lot of Khyber Pass SMLE copies in the beginning of the Soviet invasion, many were built from metal of questionable quality, but they reloaded their own ammo with homemade gunpowder (often made using old film), which wasn't very powerful. They still reload their own
  2. I've been waiting for mightyjebus to post a picture of everything, I can't even sit and look at the picture for too long, much too much awesomeness in it. I'd like to see a giant museum quality wall display for all those! A couple things I see in there caught my eye; what's the gun with the RPK barrel and black AK74M handguards? I can't see the rest of it. I also see a plum colored handguard, which interests me because I always liked the plum and want to do a plum AK74M with the Bulgarian synthetic furniture I have. Umm, you can't free float an AK barrel, because the gas tube is press
  3. Looks like I'm going to ZULU this weekend, my friend sends me a message telling me they're going to Zulu, and I'm coming, lol. Haven't been there since last year, it's a pretty nice field, despite the fact that half of it was a swamp, I think they should build boardwalks around the swampy areas, that'd be kinda cool. Hopefully I'll get some nice pictures and video to put up here.
  4. Sweet! Looks just like it, and I agree, more video game guns would be cool. I've had a STALKER loadout planned for 5 years now, but I never got around to it. I only got as far as two OD green guns and some Flecktarn, need to get/make some more gear and grab some Freedom patches.
  5. Yea, I have to do that too, but first I want to get a couple real Bakelite mags to go off of, unfortunately they're a bit pricey in the US, around $45 each now (a few years ago they could be had for about $5, but I hadn't gotten into real AK's yet and had no idea, wish I did).
  6. Haha, I actually thought about that. I guess I'll say that since I have what would at that time be new US made BDU pants, that I was partially supplied and trained by the CIA, lol. I was actually trying to cover the modern vest up with the gun, it probably would be more historically accurate to be pointing the gun up in the air while exhibiting poor trigger finger discipline, maybe I'll do that pose when I finish my loadout. As far as making progress, I got a Type81 Chicom, still need to get more appropriate boots (I decided against cheap shoes like Iran or China might have supplied, and t
  7. What handguard and what model gun, specifically? Different manufacturers have different tolerances and sizing.
  8. Wow, that's pretty impressive, I actually like it and I was never a fan of the Tapco look either.
  9. Now I want to see someone build an SKS replica, and then put it in a Tapco Intrafuse stock, just to watch some people explode with rage, lol. On a serious note, has anyone gotten one of the 2012 VFC AK's yet? I'm contemplating getting the AK74N, and putting on real Bulgy plum furniture with a CYMA plum grip.
  10. I like my AK's historically accurate and practical, therefore I prefer it to be like a gun that has actually be used, not something that has had every accessory thrown on to it just because it can be. Most of my AK's don't have an optic, they don't need it. My AIMS has a replica UltimAK rail and a T-1 replica, a modern upgrade that gives me an optic without adding lots of weight and clutter. My RPK has a small scope to help with giving supporting fire at range. My shortened AK47S pistol thing has a Magpul AFG because it's comfortable, I might put a rail back on the tacticool lower handguard to
  11. Seem this is the most appropriate thread for my new loadout. It's a work in progress, but it's starting to take shape. Late 80's Mujaheddin: I borrowed my sister's aviators for the picture, need to grab a regular pair (obviously not using them in-game). Now I need a chicom chest rig instead of the Pantac, a more mix and match assortment of magazines, a few more Afghan items (decoration on the gun, knife, etc), and some old style Soviet boots. Also, everything needs to be used and worn quite a bit, it's all much too clean and shiny.
  12. Do you know where he bought it from?
  13. Thanks Supervepr, though I'd say my collection is only beginning to get off the ground, considering some posters here have beautiful collections consisting of several Inokatsu, VFC, LCT, RealSword, and other very nice replicas. I'm working towards that though, slowly. Whitehawk, very boring Inokatsu indeed! No, very nice, though I think I prefer the furniture back the original way. Now here's something I could use the collective's advice on: I've wanted an RK-12S for a while, but they went out of stock some time ago, of course. Since some DBoys all steel models are available again, I
  14. Got a couple more. I'm proud of my furniture refinishing job, lol. For anyone curious, after sanding off all the yellow sealant from the wood with 220 grit, I applied a heavy coat of Miniwax Red Mahogany stain with a cloth, waited 15 minutes, then wiped off the excess, and allowed it 8 hours to dry. Then I applied a coat of Miniwax Antique Walnut one-step stain and polyurethane gloss finish with a foam brush, gave that 8 hours to dry, and applied another coat with the foam brush and a small horsehair brush. I applied it a bit thicker than it should be, and brushed it as it was begin
  15. Those are three beautiful guns, MPi looks nice. Here's a new attempt at getting a good picture of my RPK;
  16. Time for a family photo update I think. I wanted to get a nicer photo outdoors, but it's much too hot out for me to go bring all the AK's to a suitable background surface outdoors, and thunderstorms are rolling in, so the floor will have to suffice. My camera also refuses to take nice pictures in artificial light, so they're a bit grainy. Anyways, here's the family today, hopefully it will soon be growing with the addition of some nicer AK's, as I'm considering picking up an LCT or two. Here's my primary AK's: -CYMA RPK74, with a scope mounted it makes for a support gun that can double
  17. A stock CYMA gearbox should be able to run on an 11.1v LiPo, just as long as you don't go crazy with it. But if you're using semi a lot, a mosfet, even just a basic mosfet (which I think there's a how to guide for stickied in the tech section), would be a good idea, trigger contacts and 11.1v LiPos and semi auto don't get along that well. You could grab a couple 7.4v 1300mah Turnigy LiPos from HobbyKing, I have a few of those and they're great, they fit under the dust cover easily, and cost like $8 each.
  18. It's one of CYMA's newer models, basically a VFC copy like a DBoys. The new CYMA gearboxes are pretty good right out of the box, hopup and barrel isn't bad either. Real handguards should fit, might need a tiny bit of fitting. Not a whole lot of real parts to put on it though, maybe front and rear sight blocks? The DBoy's full steel models are starting to come back in supply again, so you might want to look at those instead, all steel already, and the DBoys gearboxes, while not as nice as CYMA, aren't bad.
  19. Or a fixed H&K skeleton stock. Possible to modify the receiver to accept a modified UMP stock?
  20. Took more like a month, but there's now a KWA TT-33 in this thread; Next will probably be a PPsH, and then I can start getting together the gear for a WWII loadout.
  21. Beautiful, Comrade! I think I will definitely get one of the full steel DBoys AKM's and blue it, it looks quite nice. Hmm, now I'd like to see a proper AK-47, machined steel receiver, threaded barrel, etc. That would be pretty nice to have.
  22. I guess I should order another Bakelite grip if they've stopped making them. In have three LCT grips; the Bakelite, the brick red, and the OD Green. The OD green one has the matte, textured feel, and is definitely the sturdiest, it's similar to the CYMA grips. The brick one isn't as matte or textured, and it's not quite as sturdy, but not that flimsy either, while the Bakelite one is a little flimsy. I've had the Bakelite one on my AIMS for a while and it hasn't broken or anything, but you can squeeze the sides a bit and it has some movement. Anyways the gun looks awesome, I might try doin
  23. Isn't JB Weld metal epoxy? The JB Weld I have says epoxy steel. Either way, just sand it to the metal, clean it, put some tape on the backside, fill the holes, let it cure, then file and sand it down to match. Then you can go about repainting. Rustoleum satin black or semi-gloss sorta look like the black Russian paint, though what I was told on my firearms forum to match the original Soviet Russian finish is: " if you want to match the original, then two light dustcoats of duplicolor ceramic engine semi gloss, and 4 dustcoats low gloss, then bake. at least thats how you match original russian
  24. Nice R4. I'm not sure how I feel about Galils, I have been temped by the GR-02 kit on Gunner airsoft though. And here's an update for my CM.028, decided to change the handguards, the plastic fake wood ones just look so, fake... Romanian upper handguard, CYMA tacticool lower handguard, with fakepul AFG (trimmed to fit all the way on the handguard). I'm almost tempted to put one of the rails back on to attach a flashlight, not really sure how much I would actually use it. I do really like the way it looks and feels now though.
  25. I would tie off the loose loop to make it tight, but yea, that would work as a sling mount. You can see on this gun that I tied a separate piece of paracord to the sling loop to make a single point mount on the left side. The cool thing with paracord is you can wrap and tie it in neat knots and patterns and designs that are kinda like personalized artwork, but it makes a practical and functional addition as well.
