  1. When I wrapped the stock on my AIMS, I had found a post somewhere online when I Googled for ideas, they taped the paracord midway down the stock, then ran it straight down to the loop, looped it around that, then wrapped it around the stock back up all the way to the hinge, where they then loosened the last coil, slipped the paracord under that, and then proceeded to twist each coil loose enough to press the paracord under it with a screwdriver, all the way back to where the paracord was originally taped. So far it's held up and hasn't uncoiled, tho it does twist a bit. On one of my AKSU's
  2. Myself also at Jawbreaker IV, photo credit goes to Cousins Airsoft Unfortunately, I discovered that my MAG RPK74 mags did not like feeding when I loaded them to 100 rounds, they have previously worked perfectly with 75 rounds, I suspect that it may have been an issue with the feed tab, as it's little larger on the RPK mags than on all my other MAG AK mags, and they would not fit in my AIMS until I trimmed the feed tabs down. So in these pictures I'm using the bright orange CYMA hicap.
  3. Scorch, I have the same exact CYMA, had the notched bucking also. I bought it used with the stock broken, be careful, the top part of the hinge (where the c-clip holds the pin) looks pretty weak and can break off. I modified mine to fit a piece of 3/4"x1/8" steel there, to replace that broken area. I think DealExtreme in HK happens to have the same stock, though it might be an excuse to upgrade the whole receiver and get a different stock, if it breaks.
  4. That's pretty clever with the PSL hanguards, really changes up the look with the Venom Tactical gas block too, I like it. Why the regular stock on the RPK?
  5. I found this: https://www.buymilsurp.com/ak-lower-handguard-with-pistol-grip-used-romanian-qty-1-p-41746.html don't know how shipping from the US will work out for you though. I ordered mine from APEX Gun Parts, but it was the full furniture set and more expensive. As for artificial wear, I tried the dish sponge trick once and it worked ok when I did it sparingly, but I realized that the potmetal parts always look like dull grey potmetal, rather than bare steel, where the paint is worn off. At this point I'm just letting my CM.050A wear naturally, though rubbing it down with actual firearms r
  6. It only fits on the LCT/VFC style, it has a bracket that clamps to the barrel on either side of the rear sight block, then the actual rail system is fastened to the bracket. ELBAR, to my knowledge, the original CA AK's (the black plastic furniture SLR105) and the Sportlines are Marui style, but the newer steel and wood ones I think are VFC style, never dismantled one before though.
  7. J.J., Try wiggling and squeezing the grip, those little tabs/wings sometimes needs some help finding the way into the opening of the receiver. Taking the selector lever off so the gearbox can move a little more might help you angle the grip better to get the tabs to slip into place. You might need to do a bit of filing on the tabs to get it to fit, or push the tabs inward with a screwdriver. Those tabs do help make the grip feel more solid once it's installed though. Farfromahero, I personally like the different look of the tacticool '74, plus being an AK74, it would look wrong with the AK
  8. That Unicorn AKSU and LCT AK47S are really nice, I'm not really an AK47S fan, but this one is changing my mind! And here's something much different, a friend picked up a Echo-1 'Wolverine' AKS74, and wanted some tacticool stuff, so here it is. It's not my style, but it doesn't look too bad, the replica Samson rail is pretty solid, and I like the triangle stock much better than the collapsible AR stock usually seen on tacticool AK's. I'm guessing this is the new JG blowback, the blowback system is much better designed than what was on my CM050, it's smoother and far more durable. The gun it
  9. Whatacountry.com Bulgy AK-47 kit is $110, Bulgy AK-74 kit is $195 with wood furniture and no barrel, $300 with barrel, and $15 more for polymer furniture. Steevo, the outer barrel on that isn't threaded, is it? It looks like the threads broke off the front sight, but on the real AK the barrel is threaded, not the front sight, you might have some trouble there. The gun is looking pretty cool now though. I also love my CYMA RPK, though mine wasn't terribly impressive out of the box, so I upgraded it a bit, now it is terribly impressive I bought a bunch of MAG midcaps for it, just need
  10. Still not very airsoft related, but I guess one of these $110 Bulgarian AK-47 kits would make a good source of real parts for an AK-47 airsoft replica. I can't wait to build these things!
  11. Romanian Civil Guard semi-auto rifle, demilled and imported a while ago when complete barrels were still permitted, What-A-Country still has them for $360. Looks unfired, though the finish on the wood looks to have deteriorated a bit. I'll be building it myself with the help of a friend who has the tools, will use a NoDak receiver and RedStar FCG and a couple other US made parts. Should turn out nice. Will do the same with the Bulgy kit I ordered, might go with a full K-Var furniture set on that though for my US made parts count. I even ordered a Bulgarian milled receiver kit for $110, I figur
  12. Well not quite airsoft, but I'll relate it to airsoft; This arrived yesterday: And I think I will at some point make it an analog of my AIMS replica Also just ordered a Bulgarian AK74 kit, so I guess that I'll have to do an AK74 also, joeshred's plum AK74 looks quite nice, not sure though if I want to go with Bulgarian plum furniture, K-Var plum, or just get the LCT OD green AK74 kit as I like OD and the AK-74's in STALKER are OD.
  13. The newer CYMAs are built like VFC's, where the barrel is held in the front trunnion by a set screw and pin (more like the real thing, similar to the way LCT and other higher quality AK replicas are built). The only Marui compatible parts are the internals. Maruis are built like toys, with that four screws in the bottom stuff, nothing on them is anything like the real thing. I'm not sure just how compatible VFC and CYMA guns are, haven't taken apart enough to measure and compare, but I was able to put a real Romanian lower handguard on my CM.050A without any fitting or modification at all.
  14. Nice. I'm surprised I haven't seen anybody make an airsoft Tantal yet. I was considering getting a Tantal and putting on all plum furniture, but now I'm just planning to build a Bulgarian kit, waiting for tax return before I go order everything and a case or two of 5.45.
  15. To be honest I actually kinda liked that camo paint job, and I'm usually not a fan of painted AK's. Looks nice either way though.
  16. I got some used AKs and parts, so I made a new Franken-AK (Frankenikov?) to use as a loaner, but I'm missing one part, the upper rear handguard cap (where the pin going through the rear sight block holds the upper handguard in place). The front set was from a CM.035. Anyone happen to have one lying around, or know of a source for one?
  17. Cope's has them for $110, I got mine on a holidays sale for $90, mine has nice clear and sharp optics and doesn't seem to be used, though the rubber eye piece was smooshed by the storage case, and the locking tab was rusted and stuck (I unscrewed the locking cam and tapped the tab out with a punch, wire brushed everything and greased it, good as new now). Next time they go on sale I'll probably grab another, put it on my RPK or a second SVD or something. I think they're a pretty good deal seeing as how they cost less than the fake PSO-1, and at least half as much as a real PSO-1 or POSP.
  18. The picture is a bit small but it looks like the 4x24 FPK/PSL scope I have on my SVD, an 'LPS T2' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PSL_%28rifle%29 I never tried but it might fit the AK rail, I was thinking of putting one on my RPK instead of a POSP.
  19. It's beautiful, I'm not a big fan of 'tacticool' AK's, but I do love it. I'm looking at the new WE PMC AKM, I'm tempted to get one and swap the furniture for a nice Romanian furniture set I have sitting here, and put a replica T1 on it like my CM.050A AIMS. WE is apparently also working on an SVD too, there's too many awesome airsoft guns coming out lately...
  20. I thought this might be an interesting topic, to see what resourceful airsofters have built from leftover and free parts. So that doesn't mean a $60 spring shotgun with $30 of accessories on it, it means a gun built from leftover or free parts that would have totaled well over $100 if the gun or parts were bought new. For example, a friend gives me a broken gun for free, I combine it with some leftover stock parts from upgrading other guns, maybe use a few upgrade parts that were free, used, or new, and the total cost is under $100 (so if you simply take $100 worth of upgrades that you bought
  21. A couple quick shots of a well Mb06/ Echo-1 ASR I did for a friend, he still needs to get a scope for it that I can paint to match.
  22. My friend's A&K SR25 We did the Magpul handguards more for weight savings than anything else, the rail system was surprisingly heavy. Much nicer now than when it was stock. It has an 11.1v 1300mah firefox LiPo inside the cheek rest, but it's starting to get old and needs replacing, it prevented the cheek rest from adjusting any lower anyway, and I found this Turnigy LiPo that should fit better.
  23. I'm looking at getting the Hexagon Production PPSh, I'm tempted to lather it in Cosmoline, let it sit awhile, them wipe it down, to give it a really authentic "stored in crates in a Soviet warehouse for 60+ years" feel (and smell).
  24. I rub some AKs down with Barricade rust preventer for guns, keeps exposed metal from rusting, gives a realistic lightly oiled look on the outside, and makes them smell more gun-like. Any oil will do the trick to protect against rust though, and you don't need much.
  25. Too much noise, not enough pictures. Here's a family photo: Bottom left: CYMA CM.028/UTG Warhawk, my CQB gun. Bought on ebay with broken stock and no selector lever for $18. Now has tuned up gearbox with PDI 120% spring (310fps), cut down barrel, TM M16 flash hider, filled in hole from stock hinge and modified receiver to fit CYMA AKM style grip, painted with Rustoleum satin black. Need to get some real wood for it. Runs a 1300mah 7.4 LiPo with a basic Mosfet, smooth and makes a great CQB gun, never sees auto, CQB field rules are semi-only anyway. Bottom right: Loaner gun, built from
