Initial Impressions of the TM SOPMOD M4 AEG

it is most likely the recoil weight return spring. if it pops of the little stopper on both the weight and the back cover of the stock tube then it's just rattling around in there causing the spring to vibrate. then you get that ping sound when you shoot. -

Richard, you might want to check for any corrosion on any surface (like the dark parts by the back battery connection that touches the connector rails, (can't see if it's just discoloration, melted plastic, or some sort of oxidation. I've encountered the electrical gremlin in a lot of the AEP's due to corrosion (usually by player forgetting battery in gun for a while) or it could be due to moisture/ humidity where the player is/lives that can do it too.. also, did you check the recoil weight in the tube? I've seen a few with miss-installed weights that get the groove all messed up, th -

Richard, fyi Echigoya did a A3/4 version with a full front handguard and fixed stock. I think they only do it as requests. I just want to see the stock and see how much they cut out and where they had to add reinforcement. (seeing as they have to leave the buffer tube on, or else they gotta make a new tube.) I think it was in their ad in ARMS Jan & Feb. and nice job on the electrical problem find. it's always stressful when a gremlin decides to jump into something -

Elvis, Nice setup! simple and clean. so how are the separate connectors? do you have any issue with the connections unseating themselves during battery reinstall when you have to shoehorn it all back into the front? -

Anak, Air-Borne!, cool. (I found that shop while lost in Shinjuku last time I was up there, lol...) and this just came online: Metal Selector Plate from Promy. (seems a bit overkill for that piece?) http://www.redwolfairsoft.com/redwolf/airs...M_SOPMOD_M4.htm -

Anak, which shop did the milling on the barrel? looks nice. did they mill the back end by the stabilizing washer to allow for the wiring too? the wiring looks to be 18ga or the thin-wall 16, about the same on the older FET sets from SW. -I've never had good luck with his AB sets, I always fry them. now I use just the really simple non AB type FETs.. my shooting is too much for the boards.. lol... that last pic, does the wiring interfere with the mag cut-off lever to the bolt release switch? and happy belated B-Day -

Ego, when shooting in semi, do you tend to feather the trigger like, on a real firearm when rapid firing? I"ve found that a good ratio of the Military and RS shooters that play within my group/field tended to experience this for a while. they try to fire as fast as possible in semi, then the gun tends to lock up. thus resulting in the "go full to clear" routine. they had to just teach themselves to slow down a little in the trigger pulling and go to a full stroke on trigger pull, that eliminated about 95% of the issues. now, there may also be a problem with the battery pack not output -

KDawg, the Socom is a great piece. I"ve had my Sopmod ever since the first release, and it's shooting like a champ. my OEM battery packs finally went, but I replaced the cells with better ones. (you won't have to worry about that with the Socom!) If you are indeed looking for performance upgrades on the Socom, I would ask around to see if there are any VERY experienced techs close to you that may have experience on this gun. they are a bit more difficult to work on than a standard AEG. I don't recommend opening it up if you have not done it before. especially on a sizeable investment li -

well, I'm pretty sure the gun is no where near fast enough for the piston to catch up to the gears, but I do think the problem may be caused by the recoil weight return spring just not keeping up. (forgot about that thing, thanks Richard). guess I just have to keep messing with it. -

well, finally decided to rework one of my battery packs. now it's got a 9.6v Elite 1500NiMH pack in the OEM battery housing now. here's a question for the guys running 11V Lipo packs. Do you get the gun feeling like it's cycling too fast for the recoil weight to keep up with the piston? (in full auto firing) -on a full charge my new pack outputs at 11.3V until it runs down a bit. then it behaves a little better... but when you put it freshly charged in, the gun sounds and feels like it's out pacing the weight in the tube. I'm not concerned in the semi auto mode, it's perfect -

Mr Ezzy: please don't quote the pics in the reply's Number 5: there wasn't much on SOP/COM stuff at all. My brother met the guy through a few mutual friends. -and he was too busy messing around with the real stuff to care.. Richard Y: yea, I think that's the same guy, (I don't know his online name) but, it's the same guy that makes the butterfly sector gear. truthfully, I don't know when I'll be able to put the gear set in just yet. I've a more pressing matter with my original battery packs starting to burn out, and I'm looking at a replacement solution. -and I don't wan -
