  1. Yey! Another satisfied customer (taking full credit even though "Sao" posted the same thing earlier and I just re-iterated it because I felt it had been missed) Happy browsing
  2. Well, yes. In Pablo's case it sounds like the cause of his problems is an abundance of "doo-doo". In Sadigh's case, it sounds like your browser has cached the pages from the day you experienced the outage locally. As such, you need to remove your browser cache files and restart your computer before trying again.
  3. Well, that of course would be great but don't have a mechanism in place at the moment. Besides that though, taking donations is something that Arnie would have to decide himself and as he is not on-line that much at the moment, we'll just have to wait and see. Yes we did. That was the crash I referred to in my earlier post. It was rather unusual as most downtimes tend to be limited to 5->10 minutes max. Rest assured it has been added to the list of things to check up on Blood - no. That would just make everything sticky, HaVoC's parents woefully hap
  4. Well, we could always start a petition. Right, some tests have been run on the server and it has been determined that "memory" was to blame. The high usage has been maxing out the available memory on numerous occasions causing the dead-spots we have been experience (barring yesterday's exceptionally bad service - the hosting company had centre-wide errors on all servers during that period). Not to go in to detail but some virtual memory management was needed as a temporary measure, and a rather expensive memory upgrade will be needed soon to maintain the service effectively. S
  5. The site was briefly disabled while an important upgrade was carried out. Chances are you were unlucky enough to be trying to access the site at that moment. The good news is that the site seems to be running a LOT smoother now
  6. The problem is that the site is Owned, Maintained and Managed by English people. As such it is us that can get a legal slap if such information is posted up and subsequently used by another Brit to get himself a firearms conviction. As such, the 1 Joule rule stands.
  7. Hi peeps, Okay, I have spent a fair few hours on the phone with the server operator tonight and we are narrowing down the search. After a lot of second-by-second monitoring of the server and all its processes, I have witnessed the server stop responding with only 3 active connections!!! Basically, what seems to be happening is that the server operates as usual for a period of time (tonight this has been about 5 minute periods maximum), then something on the server stops processing requests and the requests just start piling up. After a few minutes, the number of queued requests
  8. The options are... 1. Have options to "display all" or "Display minimal", etc... which will require re-coding a massive amount of the forum engine. That would take an insane amount of time and is most likely legally prohibited by the people who originally wrote the forum engine. 2. Just remove all the extras. That leaves us with a very basic forum engine that looks naff, has far less functionality and is vastly inferior to the top quality site we all love. The only other option is '3' - Upgrade the server and keep the top quality site we want. That is currently being looked at.
  9. Unfortunately not, no. This one has already been looked at and the Gallery option uses bandwidth and storage space on the server - neither of which is being too badly taxed. The problem is being caused by the constant slamming of the memory and processor on the server. This is being caused by the sheer number of processor and memory hits caused by loading a forum page or a review. Example, for your browser to load one page from the forums, the server's processor has to... Look up & process the header (including links to additional features, etc...) Look up & process t
  10. Hi all, Yes Prometheus I think I know where you're coming from. To my mind the best options would be... 1. Writing the guide in HTML and have it hosted yourself (like Gazchap has done with his excellent SL9 guide) or we host it up here as an article. Unfortunately I don't have access to change the article pages so this would have to wait until I either have access, or Arnie gets enough time to sort it out. 2. An exact clone of the "Reviews" database but reserved only for takedown guides. This would require the purchase of another license for the software as we'd be running tw
  11. And so you should Well, not just you, but ALL members using multiple windows/Firefox tabs are taking up connections that stop other users from viewing the site. Yes, it may help you do several things at once, but each one of those "things" is a user that is being "bounced" from the site. The problem is that at the moment, demand is MASSIVELY high and finance is low. These two factors are mutually exclusive which is leading to outages for some users. And don't think that this is because us owners/admins/moderators are over-using the site - even I have had a job connecting this
  12. Well quite. Shao seemingly has the brass-danglies to say what I meant Simply put - If your sig got "modded", it was over forum limits. Reinstating the original sig (or one just as OTT) will make us sad. Sad mods = BAD mods. Bad mods = Worst nightmare. This has been a public service announcement on behalf of MARCH "Moderators Against Rage, Chumps and Huge signatures"
  13. Hi, The signature you currently have says... This is absolutely fine and there isn't a single person here with access that will modify that part of your profile. I would put it to you that the previous signatures you had that were modified contained either images or text that were noticably over the 400x100 pixel limit on this site. ( http://www.arniesairsoft.co.uk/forums/inde...p?showtopic=388 ) As Admins and Moderators it takes us time and effort to cut down signatures so we don't do it unless the rules are being broken and visitors are being inconvenienced.
  14. Hi all, Right - The "Low-down" for y'all... A month ago this site was receiving SO MANY connections (around the 700 simultaneously mark) that the CPU was being drowned out for extended periods and the whole site was being killed. Now, to understand what "Connections" are - A Connection is a request sent to the server. One user NORMALLY has one connection at any one time. However, some users have multiple browser windows open and are making multiple connections at any given moment (replying to a thread in one window while refreshing another window and opening a thread in anothe
  15. Excellent. If you can also get him to find out his IP address as described in this thread... http://www.arniesairsoft.co.uk/forums/inde...showtopic=53702 ...it would also help to narrow down the causes. (Remember - PM his IP address to me, don't post it publicly) Cheers.
  16. Thanks all for your support It's a priviledge but it's also a LOT of extra work. I hope I can do you all proud and help to keep Arnie's at the top of the world's Airsoft internet communities Enjoy the forums.
  17. A description of the message certainly would help. If it is an "access denied" message then he may have joined up previously and been banned for whatever reason. If he created duplicate accounts then he would have a block placed on new registrations.
  18. Shouldn't be necessary now. This was just a case of the wrong type of IP address making the blocked list. As it was a "dynamic" IP, the result was to block a whole bunch of connections, not just one. That address has been found and removed so everything should be back to normal now
  19. Update: I have located a rogue "dynamic" address that made it in to the list accidentally and have now removed it. This should have resolved the issue.
  20. That looks like it might be an IP block. Occasionally when we get troublemakers who keep on trying to create new accounts their IP address is listed as "banned". This works really well and provides the kind of error message seen above. However, if an IP block is applied to a dynamic IP address, or his static IP has been altered to an address already blocked, he might see such a message. My advice would be for him to try to get on again. If he gets the same "not permitted" message, get him to IMMEDIATELY visit the following web site... http://www.whatismyipaddress.com/ On
  21. Agree ENTIRELY! Make that two (or more). As I pointed out in this thread almost a year ago... http://www.arniesairsoft.co.uk/forums/inde...showtopic=17424 ...flaming without providing search results is something we could well do without here, so I would urge all users not to do it, and all moderators to assign a warning point to anyone seen doing it. Many thanks
  22. As has been mentioned, using the "Search Titles Only" option will normally sort out most searching issues. Some search engines prioritise importance, correct for typing errors, use intelligent reasoning and get you the results you need in the best fashion possible. Examples of these are Yahoo and Google and they cost millions to develop and operate. What we have is a forum search engine. It does (as Arnie pointed out) EXACTLY what you ask it to, nothing more. As such you do need to be careful that you are entering valid terms in the right way. Using the host of available options
  23. Additional. Thread starter now banned for repeated extreme racism. (He also ignored the English language forum rule)
  24. Probably not. If it were a browser issue, it is unlikely that the forum engine itself would be issuing "Permission Denied" messages. Having said that, anything's possible in the complex and unexplainable world of Information Technology
  25. Okies. I have just mentioned this to Arnie and as far as he is aware, there is no technical reason for this to be happening. So just to set things straight, this is how it should work... The warn level for a particular user (and I am using Sledge for this example as he has already stated his warn level in this thread) should look thusly... [edit out as IP left in] The way it SHOULD work is that clicking on the number next to the % sign (indicated by the red circle on the image below).... [edit out as IP left in] ...displays all warn logs relevant for that par
