it's just a stereotypical association that will probably never die. just like BMWs and audis are driven by dickheads and MX5s (most roadsters in fact) are driven by hairdressers etc.

    The Computer Question Thread

my point is i really can't picture 24Gb being inadequate for a very, very, very long time. by the time you'll actually need more than 24Gb everything else in the system will be hideously outdated so you'd be replacing the CPU and motherboard anyway. hell, you'll probably never max out 16Gb either. look at reviews for the bulldozer CPUs, they were a massive disappointment. the flagship 8 core model is only slightly faster than a core i5 2500 in very few situations, and it's more expensive.

forget AMD, intel are miles ahead in the game. sandybridge chips overclock amazingly well, an OC'd core i5 would be more than enough. 32Gb or indeed 24Gb is a pretty crazy amount of RAM, you'll never use it so it's not worth worrying about, 6/8Gb would be fine.

yeah i got that from some knob in an audi A4 estate. would be the *fruitcage* audi drivers, wouldnt it? i was wearing a bloody high vis, he clearly saw me, and he clearly aimed for the puddle. i felt like lobbing a weighty pair of sidecutters at him. i honestly don't understand how some people get off on making other people's lives worse for no good reason. i mean, what has he gained by soaking me while i'm trying to do my job? nothing.

not really, seeing as i was in a telephone exchange. in my household we have proper taps one does not generally expect hot taps to dispense literally boiling water, and certainly not immediately. seriously this was proper boiling water, not just "ooh christ, that was a bit hot" plus i was at work an hour past my finish time, so needless to say i was eager to Foxtrot Oscar home.

my rant of the day, separate water taps. who the hell thought 2 separate taps instead of a single mixer tap was a good idea? you start with arctic water, get about 5 seconds worth of pleasant water and then it's as if it's been heated in the fires of Mt. doom and theres nothing you can do to cool it down. the main reason for this rant is that today i went to wash my hands, turned on the hot tap, immediately put my hand under it and was instantly treated to kettle water. no joke, it was pretty much boiling, my hand was covered in red blotches and that tingly burn feeling for a good hour or so.

could be worse, you could be listening to capital. i had to put up with that for 3 days straight. imagine you take the 10 worst songs currently in the chart and play them over and over again all day, punctuated every 15 mins or so with the most irritating adds you can find... that's capital FM. seriously you'll easily hear each song at least 4 or 5 times per day. i don't understand why people listen to heart either. from what i can see it's essentially radio 1 minus anything good... with annoying radio adds.

well, i'm rather glad i put off getting that dent in my car fixed for quite so long. you see, this morning i woke up to find that some kind hearted soul has added a rather fetching go faster stripe to my passenger side door and rear quarter (the panel that was kicked in earlier) sadly it's not the aesthetic i was going for so it'll need to be repainted. on the bright side i'll have only had to pay for one lot of paint. woo hoo!

plan B's new single, ill manors http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQb3dFmPfKg&ob=av3e heard it on radio 1 today. im rarely much of a fan of rap, but i'm quite liking this. it's got a very malevolent and menacing tone to it that seems quite rare in the genre, also i like how the lyrics are about how much of a *suitcase*hole east london is as opposed to the usual ###### about how much money/swag/women the 'artist' has. edit: useless swear filter and added video

that's not so bad, acronyms that shorten phrases to a few letters are acceptable IMHO i just get caught out a lot by 'fort' and 'nefing', seeing as in my mind a fort is some sort of stronghold and nefing... i'm really not sure, it sounds like an australian word for dogging.

i've been rather impressed with animal's jeans. i check their out outlet section to see what's cheap. their sizing is all over the place, but delivery is free and comes with paid postage for returns. the main ones that catch me out are 'nefing' (anything) and 'fort' (thought). i dont understand it, typing the word properly only takes about half a second longer and lets people know that you aren't mentally disabled.

was listening to lamb of god's resolution album, currently listening to 'the wolves' by ben howard. fantastic song, slightly schizophrenic genre shifting on my part though haha scorch: sick track, didnt realise skrillex had anew EP out.

when i was given 2 weeks notice i continued to work full time while searching for a job (a specific job too, not just anything that will earn me money) and landed one after 4 days of unemployment. and let me tell you, i looked bloody hard for that job. it was only a temporary 6 weeks thing while the firm had work, but i carried on searching during that time too and was able to leave there and start another job literally the next day. what about apprentices? apprentices under 19 or over 19 in their first year have a minimum wage of £2.60! i don't see you getting upset over that, and that's a wage that can potentially be given for 3 years, not just a temporary measure. i'll be honest, im not sure what the full situation is regarding employers regulations for workfare. the only 'information' i can see is that boycott workfare site, and frankly i'd rather trust an uncyclopedia article. if the system is being abused, the solution isn't to scrap it, it's to make it so that it can't be abused. i would have expected the government to put such measures into place from the word go (that is if they havent already)

yeah, but they are being paid to do work... via benefits. sure, it's ###### poor money, but if they don't like it they should go and look for a proper job. it's an incentive, a guy i work with, his brother is (was) a proper 100% benefit scrounger, once he found out he was going to have to work for his benefits he went out and got a job. an awful lot of people are perfectly happy to sit on the dole because they consider themselves above certain jobs. one of my GF's friends has passed up opportunities for various jobs because it's not something she'd like to do. she's even quit 2 or 3 jobs and gone back on benefits just because she didnt enjoy the work or didnt like her manager.

people who can't just say what they mean. there's a guy on one of the other forums i'm on who has a habit of explaining his problem etc in a very cryptic and hazy manner over the space of about 5 posts, the result is like a riddle. i honestly feel a code breaker while trying to figure out what he's trying to say.

we get given toughbooks at work. some people still have old CF-19 or 29 laptops, while the new ones are the semi-rugged CF-52. everyone hates them. to be fair it's probably not the latop's fault, my 52 has got a dual core i5 and 2GB of RAM which would probably be adequate if BT didnt fill their computers with so much bloatware and poorly designed, outdated programs. edit: i had a thinkpad of some sort before the toughbook, same internal spec, just as dire to use also i never really saw the appeal in the trackpoint, i could never manage to use it as effectively as a trackpad or mouse and it always interfered with my typing.

aye, with quite a lot of experimenting with red varnish and various shades of orange, red and yellow inks i managed to get a very good likeness using MAG midcaps. from a distance you couldnt tell some of them apart from my RS mags.

not forgetting the silent mobility scooters of death. lost count of the number of times i've almost been run down by one of those things, i however distinctly remember a few years ago twice being told to "watch where you're going". how *fruitcage* dare you! have consideration for other people on the pavement, cyclists aren't legally allowed to ride on the pavement yet they're far safer and more considerate than you! i would have thoroughly enjoyed going off on one, sadly i'm far too polite and wouldn't have wanted to have given them yet more to moan about 'the youth of today'

frustrating as it is, i dont really blame her. what with the rising popularity of the 'blame culture' i wouldn't want to take any chances, far too many people now are all too willing to ruin someone else's life for a quick buck.

would it be that unfeasible for an old ribbed cover to be fitted in the place of a damaged smooth one? i know there's plenty of photos of AKs with half wood, half polymer furniture.
