as renegade said, it's not actually the plastic gearbox shell that's the problem.

i thought the gears were plastic? hence the whole impossible to repair thing?

The gearbox is plastic but the internals are metal. They're the usual Marui metal however and are far from indestructible. And everything but the cylinder, barrel, and hop rubber are proprietary so replacements are hard to come by.
