  1. I'm starting to think that an improved bolt catch that engages the bolt differently is maybe more important.

    What are your opinions?

    Definitely.

Be aware, however, that different magazines cause the bolt catch to operate differently.

The main thing that'd improve the way the bolt catch works would be to figure out a design that works more positively but, at the same time, is more sensitive.

Basically, if you can make it work from the AGM mag it should work with every other mag out there.

I guess a more substantial bolt catch might also be useful but, TBH, the BCG tends to sustain more damage than the catch usually.

It's kinda interesting but there's an accidental battle between parts going on all the time.

A company invents a reinforced BCG and then another company comes up with a steel bolt catch.

What we need to understand is that nothing is indestructable.

    I'd rather that the $10 bolt-catch was sacrificed than a $100 BCG.

Perhaps what's needed is a hardened bolt catch with a small, soft, insert tha could be replaced when it becomes damaged?

  2. One thing to remember about the 5KU steel barrel set(5 pieces).

It has a thin barrel shoulder at the base where it mates with the upper receiver. The AGM barrel nut is made for barrels with thick shoulders, so there will be alot of leftover space and your barrel will wobble madly. If you don't want to get a new barrel nut then spacers will work. Just a heads up.

Other than that, you're good to go.

    -Luis

I bought the 5KU barrel set from EBB and it came with a little bag of spacers as well.

I wonder if they've decided to stop giving them away or maybe you just didn't get them when you should have?

I just got my JDT BCG! I ordered it from PX-Airsoft.

All I can tell you about it right now is:

    [...]

-Loading nozzle movement is very stiff inside carrier. O-Ring sticks too much....

Surely THIS is the main thing that needs sorting out before any conclusions can be drawn about performance?

  3. Couple of related points:-

It did seem as though our hero was a bit heavy on the trigger once he'd got behind the guy.

Conversely, what was the guy doing? Waiting for a taxi to arrive and extract him?

Geez, if somebody's charging at you at least shoot back or run away!

Most importantly, however, as a Member of long-standing, Basho knows better than to insult other forum members directly.

    That's just not on. :waggle:

    *EDIT*

I was gonna give Basho warning points for his insults but, meh.

It's a bloody good review and the videos were enjoyable to watch so it'd be wrong to p*ss on anybody's chips over a bit of internet drama.

Please, in future, keep the direct insults to yourself.

Hit the report button if you find something truly offensive. :)

  4. How often do you see L85's with ironsights in the field, really? (real ones that is)

    In theory, never.

The deal is that the MOD issue SUSATs to all combat troops.

The only L85s equipped with iron sights should be ones issues to reserves, base or support troops etc.

Course, it's possible that a squad of Engineers might come under fire while fixing a road or water pipese etc so there's no guarantees.

  5. I'm not spamming.

    Read the thread title.

You're not posting pictures, or posting discussion based ON the pictures posted.

Anything else is off-topic and, thus, spam.

Please USCMcorps give as much info of PTS as you can.

Geez, way to encourage a guy to ignore a request from a site moderator.

I have nothing against uscmCorps posting this information in the appropriate place.

At the risk of opening up yet another can of worms rather (rather than just doing the whole "robomod" thing)...

We (that is, the forum staff) have always had certain reservations about these picture threads because they tend to become cliquey little sub-communities by themselves.

We've seen people selling items in them, people bullying other members in them, people posting dodgy stuff in them and all manner of similar junk.

If uscmCorps has information about PTS products then, as a member of Arnies Airsoft, I'd hope he'd have the decency to post it in General Discussion where the vast majority of fellow members get the benefit of it, rather than just the tiny minority that treat this thread as their own little chat room.

  6. Less talk. More pictures.

If there are rumours about PTS products worth hearing please post them somewhere that they'll receive the widest audience.

    Or keep quiet.

USCMcorps, the only reason you aren't getting warning points for spam is because, meh.

  7. This thread is for REVIEWS of the Marui SOPMOD M4.

Normally it would be okay for it to devolve into general discussion of the item in question but, alas, since it's turned into nothing more than a market stall for one member to tout their unauthorised commercial products, I'm closing it.

If anybody has a anything related to this review to post please let me know and I'll re-open it.

  8. I've heard from many fitness sources that the human body has adapted to shoes, hence such things as flat footed shoes for Crossfit, and the above "shoes".

We also adapted from walking around on all fours.

That doesn't necessarily mean it's still a smart thing to do.

  9. FYI...

I just had a look through all the OPs previous posts going back to mid August and he has no hidden or deleted posts or topics during this period.

I must say, I've noticed odd things happen on these forums from time to time.

For example, I posted a reply in one thread in the evening and then watched as other peoples replies caused that thread to sink down the page.

The following morning I was surprised to see the forum index showing that thread, with my post, as being the most recent reply in the tech forum.

I went in and had a look and, sure enough, it showed my reply from the previous evening as being THE most recent post in the tech forum.

I dunno if this kind of thing is just cyberspace oddness or whether the server owners had a problem and backed up the database from the previous evening and didn't bother to tell anybody.

Anyway, it doesn't look as it your thread's been deleted. It either didn't get posted properly or it got eaten by the ghosts of the internet.

I've actually been meaning to have a word with Marlowe about adding a specific "Valuations" sub-forum to the sales section.... so Newb's cannot post "valuations" in General Discussion in the hope of dodging the 100 post rule and attracting buyers.

  10. And yes, almost all of my friends have the same tinting that I do, except they have 35% on the windshield, and they've never been in an accident, and neither have I. Just because you can't drive with dark tint doesn't mean I can't.

How'd you know if you've hit anything with those tints?

There's probably bits of pedestrians and cyclists tangled up underneath the truck right now.

  11. None of you obviously have any experience with window tinting. The dark tint helps when it is 100+ degrees out half the year, and still "hot" the rest of the year. I can see perfectly fine out of all of my windows at night, plus I have 2 infrared cameras on my truck. One above the license plate, and one behind the grille.

I've obviously never been to countries such as Dubai or Abu Dhabi or Malaysia or Thailand or Burma where it regularly hits 50c during the day and people fit mirror tints to their windows to keep the sun off during the day and then run over pedestrians at night.

Some of the smarter locals will often cut a "letterbox" out of the tint so they can see better at night.

As for the IR cameras... are you really suggesting that you'd consider driving by using cameras hooked up to an LCD display on your dash somewhere?

    What planet are you from?

Do they give away driving licenses in boxes of Oreos where you live?

Does your insurance company know you plan on using cameras to see where you're going?

Do your friends do this sort of thing as well or are you a bit special?

  12. Well, I can't edit my last post. And it's dark again, so I can't take another picture. But I just got all of my windows tinted after 6 years. 50% windscreen, 5% sides, 15% rear.

    I gotta ask...

Why would somebody put 5% or 15% tints on all other windows and then put a 50% tint on the windscreen?

Surely it'd be simpler just to wear sunglasses or, even better, wear a blindfold when driving at night?

You're going to have an accident at night because you can't see where you're going.

  13. This is the most immature and childish argument ever. Noone here has any right to cirticize someone else justg because of what they want to put on THEIR NOT YOUR! AEG/GBBR/GBB.

So what lesson have we learned? If you dont have anything good to say dont say anything at all. If you insult/make fun of/criticize someone for FDE accessories then your just tolling and wasting forum space. Alot of people need to grow up.

    And breathe!

I can not believe that this argument is still going on (started on page 19).

I recently bought some a bunch of Magpul parts - in FDE

    Why?

Because they are some of the best accessories i have used totally awesome and look cool!

Don't mean to criticise. Just using your post to reply...

Basically, it usually goes like this:-

    - Somebody makes a comment either noting that there ARE lots of Costaclone© guns around these days OR commenting that it's nice to see something that doesn't look like it was used in a Magpul photoshoot for a change.

    - A bunch of magpul fanboys will leap to the defence by stating how it's "obvious" that Magpul bits will be common these days because they're so good. Etc.

    - Internet flame-war ensues.

Fact is that, as you say, regardless of the quality of magpul parts, most people are buying them simply cos they're fashionable and look cool.

As has been said, it's up to each individual what they do with their toy guns.

The arguments start when people try to claim that they built their Costaclone© simply because it was the optimal configuration for their intended purpose which is a little silly and pretentious IMO.

They bult it cos it looks cool.

They do look cool. My G&P m4 will be getting a Magpul makeover at some point for that very reason. :)

  14. So I'm pretty that means I'm over two years ahead of the new Magpul "fad" and everyone just started copying me to be as cool as I am.

To be fair, I certainly wouldn't like to suggest people should only buy things that they "need".

My only point was more that people justify these purchases by talking about their practical benefits.

The superior qualities of the MIAD or UBR are not in question. That, alone, doesn't explain why so many people choose to buy them in Dark Earth or Tan and end up with a gun that looks exactly like Chris Costa's.

It's just about honesty and openness.

If you like the way something looks then say so.

Don't try to justify your Costaclone© on practicality alone.

Please don't take offence at any of this BTW. :)

I like the look of quite a few magpul bits and I will probably bung some of em on my G&P M4 at some point.

  15. What part about the MIAD being a good grip, the CTR, UBR, and PRS being excellent stocks not make sense? If it makes the functionality fo the weapon better how is it bullsh!t?

    Okay, I can't resist....

Why don't people buy these funky bits in black?

Why is it that people, instead, choose to build 2-tone guns that look identical to the pin-ups?

The fact that people build guns in the same colours as Costa Coffee's and even fuss about what mounts he uses so they can get their dual-torch set-up identical to Costa's would suggest that there's more to it than simple ergonomics.

    It's about fashion too.

  16. Yeah it's pretty blingy on airsoft guns. I look at it from a real shooter perspective. And the BAD is a great device, but it's developed for the benefit of malfunction clearance when you're essentially taking both hands off your main controls and now having to manhandle your rifle to clear a stuck shell, etc.

Talking with Travis face to face I think the misconception is that it's for faster reloads. That's a byproduct, but it's primarily for being handle to work the bolt when working those malfunctions.

Again don't get me wrong, I had Leupolds, Aimpoints, Insight PEQs, RASs, on real rifles. So I can admit to that silliness, it's just funny to see the BAD and whatnot on bb guns.

Far as I can see it serves the same purpose on a GBBR as it does on a RS rifle.

  17. Over the last couple of days whenever I try to view a persons previous posts I am often getting the "flood control" message.

If I click on a persons name in a thread then click on "Find members posts" or "find members topics" I will ALWAYS get the "flood control" message as if I've clicked it twice etc.

I've tried this with IE and Chrome with the same results.

I've also tried clicking the persons name then waiting for a count of ten before clicking the "find posts" button but it still screws up.

    It's getting worse though...

Now, even when I go into a persons profile and use the "Find posts" or "find topics" buttons there I get the same "flood control" thing.

Right now, the only way I can review a persons previous posts or threads is using the rather nasty tabs in the middle part of the profile page.

    Suggestions?

  18. on both of mine you really do need to - striker already moves perfectly freely right back to its fully disengaged point within the firing block - nothing obstructing its travel when that part is out of the gun or when the hammer is cocked

I think there's actually a different cause for this...

Like every GBB, the hammer pushes the striker forward with each shot and then should move back again slightly afterward.

Take a look at the lower receiver with the hammer de-cocked and you can see that there's a gap between the hammer and the hammer spring.

That gap is there to allow the hammer to fall back slightly which, in turn, allows the striker to sit in a better position.

Try moving the hammer backwards and forwards slightly, without cocking it.

You should find that, if you push it forward, it'll stick in the forward position.

Now (without cocking the gun first) pull the trigger and try moving the hammer again.

The hammer now moves freely. It won't stick in the forward position. It relaxes backwards.

There's a couple of different issues at work here.

Firstly that the radius on the front edge of the striker isn't ideal, which makes it harder to insert the mag.

Secondly, that the bottom faces of the AGM hammer are roughly cast which causes it to stick.

Thirdly, that people might be releasing the trigger too quickly after taking a shot.

If the striker and hammer are functioning smoothly (and you keep the trigger pulled until the gun is back in battery, just like Costa Coffee tells you to) then you should never have any problems with loading mags.

I must say, I'm wondering if it might also be worth fitting a stronger spring to the striker?

Obviously there's a risk that'll mess with the function of the gun but I suspect it'd have to be a helluva spring before it got in the way of the hammer striking significantly.

    *EDIT*

Something glaringly obvious which I forgot to mention... cos it didn't occur to me.

If you've been dry-firing the gun without a mag in the chances of this being an issue are HUGELY amplified.

If you've fired the gun without a mag in (and you don't trust your hammer to be free enough to relax) then it definitely IS worth cocking the gun before loading another mag.

  19. Bit of a random one...

I keep reading people talking about only loading a mag with the gun cocked.

I've never needed to do that.

Take the striker block apart and make sure the striker is completely free to move backwards and forwards.

The bottom edge of the striker should be curved.

I suspect this will wear with use. Most people seem to report bent gas release valves soon after buying the gun.

You can still modify the striker by making the radius bigger and smoother to allow mags to go in easier.

Just make sure you don't actually reduce the overall length of the striker. Just curve the bottom-front corner.

  20. If you want to use the AGM metal receiver(upper and lower) then you'll have to use the AGM stock tube(since the stock tube thread is proprietary) and an AEG barrel nut.

I don't think you want to be using an AEG barrel nut on a gun that uses the AGM barrel.

It'll only be held on by about half a thread.

The only time you can use an AEG barrel nut is if you fit a barrel with a thin collar at the rear end.
