  1. I heard the moon is made of cheese. Probably best if neither of us mention this stuff until we can verify it for ourselves, eh?
  2. Good of you to post the review. It's up to you whether you decide to post on Arnies or not but we could definitely do without the attitude. Thanks.
  3. Thanks for that marlowe. I was pretty sure it'd be in there somewhere but it's kinda hard to find sub-options in IE8. TBH, IE8 now does all the stuff that used to make Firefox worthwhile so I really don't reckon there's a reason to use Firefox any more.
  4. Steady on. No need for the fireworks. I agree that painting your trousers is a bit... odd... but each to their own, eh? I'm sure you can express your alternative POV without the bad language, eh? If not we can always remove your posts for you.
  5. OK... I go to make a post and want to add a link so I click the little-green-arrow icon. This results in a warning bar at the top of the screen saying "This website is using a scripted window to ask you for information. If you trust this website, click here to allow scripted windows..." I click the bar and get only get an option saying "temporarily allow scripted windows". I click that and then, if I click the little-green-arrow again, I can finally post my link. If I then want to post a 2nd link I have to go through the palava again. I know this isn't neccesarily a problem w
  6. Uhuh. I wonder if some people are under the impression Arnie has a bunch of 19" rack units in his spare room and lots of wires? IIRC, Arnies is actually hosted on an American server at the moment. Upgrading the system would, in theory, just be a case of finding a superior service and then moving the files to the new host. In theory... I dunno if you recall but a couple of years ago Arnies was on and off for weeks because of host problems which Arnie was trying to sort out from 2000 miles away. Apparently, although the basic layout of the forums are a standard thing, there's h
  7. By way of congratulations, I'd like to offer MDK a rare universal AEG FTK. No, I'll never forget.
  8. TBH, the mesh in my glasses came from, ummm, an old spot-light shade. It's steel mesh rather than aluminium. In its defence, I reckon alu' mesh would be OK in smaller lenses such as the SG1s. Because the lenses are so much smaller, the mesh is held far more ridgidly so there's less potential for it to bend and fail. The stuff that gives me the heeby-jeebies is the woven mesh. I worry that BB strikes could deform it and cause it to come unwoven enough that a BB could get through. If the edges of that stuff aren't secured, it's only the paint that's holding some mesh together!
  9. Eyes can be tricked. If you find the mesh on a sensei mask makes things dark there's a simple solution:- Give the inside of the mesh a light spray with silver spray paint. It tricks the eyes into thinking things are less dark. Thing is, technically, if there's brighter light your retinas will contract and less less light in, thus making things even darker. From that POV the silver paint should make things a bit worse. However, psychology being what it is, if you feel good about something you're going in the right direction. I did this to mine and it felt a lot better to me.
  10. An american advocating the use of mesh eye protection? Is the sky falling? *EDIT* In other news, here's a gratuitous pic' of the modified SG/1s I've been using for the last 2 years.
  11. In related news, I tried to log into Arnies from my new PC today. When I got to the news page the sidebar on the right (with links to the reviews, forums, chatroom etc) was missing. I know it sometimes jumps to the bottom of the news page (first time you view Arnies?) so I scrolled down but it was missing completely. No biggie. I just added "/forums" to the URL to get here but somebody looking at Arnies for the first time might think there wasn't much to the site if it happened to them.
  12. That's not really feasible, is it? Think of the HUGE investment required to produce and stock stuff like jackets and vests? Then, regardless of your best intentions, people are going to find fault with them and choose something else in preference. Realistically, I reckon you'd sell 1 or 2 jackets and maybe a single kit vest, if you were lucky. Stuff like patches, pens, and even, possibly, stuff like USB memory sticks and mice with the Arnies brand are the best idea IMO.
  13. Wow! I tell you to stop insulting people (and give you a 3 day ban) and you then go on to make a further 2 insulting posts. I then, rather than simply hitting you with a longer ban, give you the opportunity to act in a responsible manner and move on. Your response is a long, drawn-out whine about how I suck and how you're getting persecuted cos we all love Hedganian so much. Hedganian has a bundle of warning points (IIRC) for a variety of reasons. Nobody's "on his side" here. The mod's are not omniscient. We don't see everything that goes on in the forums. That's why the r
  14. Nobody here is baised (or prejudiced) toward or against anybody. As I said in the PM I sent you, if you see anybody acting in a manner you don't approve of, hit the report button and the person in question will b dealt with in an appropriate manner. Hedganian has been on the receiving end of this more than once before. *sigh* So I guess the whole "play nice and be respectful" thing didn't really sink in, did it? My knee-jerk reaction is to try a longer ban as a punishment but let's see if intelligent reasoning works instead. For example, rather than postin
  15. I once hit some ice on a sharp corner in a land rover. I was only doing about 15mph (cos it was icy). I (very slowly) slid of the road and onto the grass then one of the front wheels slipped into an irigation ditch and the landie tipped gracefully into it with hardly any damage. Unfortunately, a big tow truck arrived and couldn't get the Landie out so, instead, dragged it for nearly a mile to the end of the ditch. The result was £9,000 of damage to the Landie (bodywork, chassis, axles, roof etc), thus writing it off. Oh how I laughed...
  16. OK, first thing: That image just won you a 3 day holiday to anywhere except Arnies. Second thing is that you seem to be needlessly antagonistic toward Hedganian. That stops now. I don't have any problem at all with people disagreeing, even to the point of argument, but personal insults are unacceptable and will NOT be tolerated. Debate your POV all you want but keep it civil and respectful. One of my pet hates is people who simply criticise others while, at the same time, not actually putting their own work or ideas or POV out there for comparison. It's very easy to simply
  17. wipe the crud off your subject before taking pictures. Might sound silly but it's the one thing that I notice time after time. If you're taking photo's of a gun, for example, it might look fine until you take a close-up[ which shows a build up of dust in the nooks and crannies. It can totally ruin a picture IMO.
  18. Maybe it's a male thing or maybe it stems from insecurity but I always get a kick from fixing stuff. Properly. I've been wanting to fit some fancy new headlights on my BMW for ages and I bought a set but was disappointed by the quality of them. I aborted the operation but, during a trip to a scrap yard, I spotted a set of damaged BMW headlights and I bought them with the intention of combining the good bits of the fancy new headlights with the quality of the original BMW units. This took a LOT longer than I anticipated, mostly due to the fact that some weird mental block stopped me fr
  19. I am guessing it's just a case of cleaning any molding seams off everything. PM Pablo for advice. We bought M249s at about the same time. My boxmag was always OK so I never really looked into it any further. His was a total PITA. He reckons the counterweight in the hicap-style mechanism just wouldn't spin sometimes. In the end he unhooked the wires from the built-in battery tray and bought a 4 x AA battery tray from Radio Shack and hooked the wires up to that. Last I heard it was running perfectly on 6v. I'd consider giving this a go myself except that a large 9.6v battery live
  20. Well, THIS is the place I bought bearings from. The gear shafts are 3mm diameter so you're gonna need bearings with an 9mm OD, a 3mm ID and a width of around 5mm but the width isn't really important. IIRC, the wall thickness of the gearbox is such that there's plenty of room. Scroll down THIS category until you see Part No: 4255-118. 61p each. That's what you need. Note, as well, that they do normal, flanged, bearings HERE. FWIW, I have their 6mm bearings in several of my guns now. On the bright side, they've never failed but, OTOH, they didn't actually increase the ROF at
  21. And, given the thread you linked to is closed, your point is.... ?
  22. Personally, I do make a point of randomly clicking on a few peoples warning levels every day and if I see one that was added ages ago I WILL remove it. Thing is, there's no formal limit on warnings simply to discourage repeat offences. If a person knows their warning will last 6 months (for example) and then vanish then they can decide how often to break the rules without getting banned. You really only need to worry about warning points if you receive more than one warning for the same thing. If that happens it means you're not learning from your mistakes and/or you're determine
  23. Didn't they have the helmet in adult sizes?
  24. If you want to start a thread detailing the upgrades to your FAMAS then feel free but, even so, it'll be little use without pictures. This, however, is supposed to be a picture thread. Less talk. More Pictures.
