  1. Silver barrels are generally stainless steel, non chrome lined. Basically all Chrome lined barrels are parkerized which turns them a shade of dark blue/black. Most SS (stainless steel, non chrome lined) barrels do not have any kind of coating on them unless they're made by Larue or some other companies.
  2. Bingo. The recoil weight has very little room to move. The "weld spring" if we can even call it that in the sopmod/socom carbine is VERY weak. Like other posters mentioned the best way to tighten up the fit of aftermarket handguards such as the MOE is to shim the front of the handguard by the handguard cap. Replacing the Barrel nut/delta ring also works but that requires spending moola. Blue locktight must be applied to the castle nut and the threads of the receiver extension. Do not use anything stronger than blue or you will never get it off. Also, do NOT over torque the c

    KJW M4

    Big stud eh? Awesome!
  4. VFC also uses a spring to add tension and a positive seal on the hopup unit.
  5. I think im the only one that noticed reduced recoil after upgrading. Then again, i didnt cut my mainspring so the recoil weight has nowhere to move. Im still enjoying my sopmod, its truly a great AEG.
  6. Both wires should be routed towards the back of the motor. The red wire will fold forward onto the positive terminal and the black wire will go onto the negative. Also, slightly different topic here. Im having issues with one of my sopmods. The damned gun wont fire in auto but it fires fine in semi...no clue why the heck this is happening. Anyone got any ideas?
  7. Lupin is right on the money. Perhaps we can further divide the forum into sub forums for each brand or type of gun? I know that we have for reviews but the tech forum can often times be a mess of information.
  8. Its under the rail. I remember corps talking about how he had UNcompany customize that particular barrel for him. At least i think it was corps.
  9. No no no, if thats what you like then fine, far be it from me to tell you what YOU can run on your own gun. All i will say is that im not a fan of useless accessories on carbines whether they're real or Airsoft. A cheek riser on an M4 does absolutely nothing. The M4 is one of the easiest guns around to get a consistent cheek weld on. From a practical standpoint what if you have to adjust your hopup in the field? Are you going to pull the stock out, adjust your hopup, push the stock back in and then resume firing? Thats a little inefficient isnt it? I mean, this is airsoft right,
  10. Yes, on my AK... These cheek rests do NOT work on an AR15. They were never designed for the platform.
  11. Larue, or replica Larue. The added length on the gas block was designed to do just what you asked.
  12. Pradal. What type of barrel on the larue carbine?
  13. Looking good Biscuit. Enjoy it!
  14. Those are replica KNS anti walk/roll pins. Corps, are you sure the gen 1 MIAD grips were modeled after the B3 backstrap? I remember them feeling more like a B2.
  15. The wire hangar stock is either a love or hate situation. It either fits your body just fine or it doesnt fit at all. Some people wrap paracord around the stock to better facilitate a consistent cheek weld. There is ZERO wobble. The guns are solid as a rock. Mag brand magazines work flawlessly in VFC guns. Either mag will work. The AIMS can be chambered in 5.45 5.56 or 7.62X39 so take your pick. I know that this place has them in stock. http://www.playersfirstairsoft.com/ak74-aims.html Also, if the stock doesnt work out for you its relatively easy to pick up a
  16. Luvs, Looks great man, although you should have gone with a black 12 inch barrel if you wanted to be authentic. Still, i like the stainless look on that particular rifle so kudos man, nice stuff.
  17. Absolutely. There is no reason whatsoever to front wire a sopmod when you can buy the carbine unless you're hard up for a sopmod stock but even then, due to the price difference you could always go ahead and simply buy a crane stock replica for the same price. Also, the socom carbines have a different barrel that has a flat cut to better accommodate a mini battery.
  18. Magpul specializes in AR accessories so you can hardly fault this thread for being littered with them.
  19. "I'll post pics of my gun (nearly identical to the one in that pic, except it has a normal KAC VFG, no ASAP, no MIAD, no KAC Brake, no Magpul reciever, and PMAGS with a Cut down Redimag) once the repainted VFG and Rail covers dry." So basically what you're saying is that you have an AR15 like Chris Costa?
  20. Also, to address the question about front wiring. There is VERY little space to be had in the barrel nut area. I was able to barely squeeze my wiring through in order to front wire my gun for use with a MOE handguard. I would say that trying to fit two additional signal wires in there would be almost impossible. It can be done but its going to be a STUPIDLY tight fit.
  21. A 20 amp fuse will work fine, go to an automotive store or electrical components store and you should find what you need there. I NEVER locktite my receiver extensions on my real weapons but in the case of the sopmod i do. You cannot torque the castle nut to the same ft/lbs rating on the sopmod as you can on the real steel so you need something else to hold it in place. I used blue locktite so i would be able to remove it at a later date. Just a few dabs around the threads will do fine. After you've locktited the extension on go ahead and torque your castle nut without breaking anythi
  22. Agree and disagree. If you want to place a battery in your MOE handguards you NEED the PTS version. I dont modify real steel parts to fit on my airsoft guns anymore, even if its a 30 dollar part. The Real MOE handguard needs the heatshield removed and the retaining pieces of plastic dremeled off. There are also other parts that need to be removed in order for a battery to fit. I believe the outer dimensions of the PTS handguard are also slightly different. I actually like my PTS versions better than my real steel versions, its bizarre.
  23. KAC wont warranty the suppressor or comp should something happen. They dont want the people buying these things to run them with suppressors since the brake itself was designed to be a sacrificial blast baffle if i understand what KevB was saying. Even with the suppressor moderately clean these things put out huge fireballs, most comps do its kind of unavoidable. As far as the effectiveness of this thing as a comp, yeah its pretty awesome. 437 dollars awesome? Probably not but its definitely up there in the top 3 comps and might very well be the best comp ever produced but i cant
  24. VFC, KA, G&P or even the New Classic army M15's would be a surefire bet to base a build off of. G&G is not worth it. Their bodies are horrific. They're still using magnesium and the bodies are brittle as hell.
  25. Same thing, its still a horrific design.
