I tried a TM mag in one of my Starks once, dry-cycled fine. Not exactly a fully-fleshed out experiment to scientific paper standards though of course.

I've barely fondled this one yet. I have a 'beater' untraded SA G17 Gen3 that I keep in a draw at work to do repetitions on reloads etc when I feel like practicing and yeah, the wear on the upper front portion of the barrel is noticeable and doesn't take long to appear, but it's not nearly as bad as the huge patch of missing paint on my CG/SA M&P9. Not something that bothers me personally though, so I accept it as a reasonable flaw given the accuracy of the trades and the frame for the low entry price.

Rainer's stippling looks like it'd do the job of providing more grip and traction... Anyway, picture thread. Stark 17 Gen 4, no idea how long it'll actually hold up, but if I want performance I have my stock TMs and looks wise you can't bear these things for the price to my mind. Great training piece and does what I'd need as a CQB backup.

Short of some really unlucky/messed up airsoft tolerances, they'll go on, pretty standard stuff.

Be very interested to see that post. I had to file mine near the top on the inside since it lacked the cut-outs to accommodate the bushings/bearings (? no idea) around whichever gear is at the bottom of the GB, and after that it physically fitted on just fine. As I say I could get it to run, but not to an acceptable standard at all and I've no idea how to diagnose the issue in terms of figuring out in which direction the motor angle need to be moved to get a better mesh with the GB and a smooth, non-screechy cycle.

Tried a Dytac BCM pistol grip on one of my SOCOMs, no luck sadly. I could get the gun to run (just) but no matter which height I set the motor at it was making a horrible screeching noise, definitely not right. Pretty gutted as I was stoked for switching my 10.5" gun with FG furniture over to Grey with one of these grips, but sadly not it seems (not currently aware of anyone else making an AEG pistol grip in grey).

    The Computer Question Thread

I opted for a pair of 1TB Hybrid 7200 drives with some solid state memory on them; so I'll have one for games and the other youtube video etc; pushed it over budget a bit but I was planning to add them in later anyway so this just gets the job done all in one go vs unplugging everything to do it later. My old rig actually has 2TB overall so I'm only upgrading but 500 gig in 6 years, which seems odd when I think about it given a decent 1TB 7200 drive is under £40 these days, but then my small music and picture collections don't take up much space at all. With the rise of Netflix and the like I don't seem to actually store much at all media wise myself. Usually just have a couple hundred gigs worth of games that I've bought from a steam sale, installed and not played yet, heh. In a twist of events that really quite surprised me, I totted up my build list, then just to double-triple check before hitting checkout, I looked at Cyber power, Overclockers, PC Specialist, the Scan X3S building divisionand some others I'd not heard of to compare prices on the parts vs pre-builds. Most of them produced a much higher price for a ready-made rig using the same components and some of the warranties were nigh-on pointless (only 1 month collect and return at CP for example), but the Scan warranty was one of the best. Their custom builder site also lists the exact price you're paying per component, so I cross referenced them all against buying the parts direct from their site to self build.. exactly the same. Now, whether they're charging over the odds for the parts themselves I'm not sure as I started to get serious information overload from doing so much comparison between stuff/sites all afternoon, but their parts prices certainly didn't appear to be jacked up. The overall pre-built Scan rig cost literally a few tenners more than the parts did individually and obviously you're then getting the thing built for you, tested for any serious lemons (which is a big deal for me personally with my living situation, having to return anything and rebuild would be an absolute *fruitcage* nightmare) and delivered to your door. For example, on one site I specced out a pre-build with the parts I listed and no CPU cooler or storage drives, came to around 2200 with less of a warranty and a smaller PCI-e C:\ drive, amongst a few other things that weren't as good. The parts I listed on Scan's builder came to under 2k with windows 10 (which btw is out of stock at a lot of places). So yeah, I got a high end CPU cooler and a couple of really nice storage drives plus some other improvements for the same price as competitors were charging without said parts. It almost feels a bit too good to be true, so I guess we'll see what happens when the thing arrives and how they handle any issues that do happen to come up. Can't say I particularly forsee any though. I'd only seen the PCI-e SSDs a few days ago myself, by pure chance the guys on the NODE youtube channel happened to get a bunch of top end free parts from Intel and one of them was a MoBo mounted SSD. Now their main guy Brandon was really singing the praises of these things and he was a large portion of the brains behind Freddy Wong/RocketJump/VGHS and their company/group is developing some amazing stuff with 3D and VR headsets, 360 video on YT and motion-sensed/tracked gloves inside VR headsets, including a game that combines a headset with motion tracked gloves which have many points of tracking all over them; lightyears ahead of current releases in terms of the way you actually play (it can't be played on a monitor, requires all the new hardware). So when I looked at the transfer rates on these new drives I was sold right away, especially comparing the boot time from shut down on my old rig with no SSD vs my new laptop than just has a conventional SSD - about 3-4 minutes vs less than 10 seconds. Well I placed the order already unfortunately, I've never really figured out all the details on cooling fans etc, heh. Seems to vary wildly between cases, if I'm honest I'd presumed there was more of a standardisation for mounting of the heatsinks on common liquid coolers when it comes to the higher end cases. But hey if it does fit the guys at Scan will rig it up and if it doesn't they'll have to put in one that does. So there's another big plus to getting a pre-build, takes my ignorance out of the equation and means a lot less hassle. I didn't actually opt for the case I listed, but the only thing I changed was the colour soooo... anyway, I'll post up pics in a few days when it arrives. It's not lit with a co-ordinated internal colour scheme or anything because I live in a small room by myself and very few people in the military are in to PCs, but knowing what this crowd is like I'm confident you guys will enjoy the aesthetics none-the-less.

I was just reading about the RS version the other day, did not expect to suddenly come across an airsoft replication of it. Looks ready to go and smack down a bunch of steel plates, nice gun and nice pictures. How easy was it going through FCC? Happy with the end result? It certainly looks good but obviously you're the one who's actually held the thing.

all dat necro doe After uprooting my life I'm finally settled and have the funds saved up and some time off to get this new tower finally built. I've gone off the Logical Increments site as a guide and come up with this lot: MOBO + CPU - http://www.scan.co.uk/products/intel-hex-core-i7-5820k-processor-plus-asus-x99-deluxe-motherboard-haswell-extreme-bundle GPU - http://www.scan.co.uk/products/6gb-msi-gtx-980-ti-pcie-30-(x16)-7010mhz-gddr5-gpu-1000mhz-boost-1076mhz-cores-2816-3x-dp-12-hdmi-20 Main drive - http://www.scan.co.uk/products/400gb-intel-750-series-aic-ssd-hhhl-pcie-30-(x4)-nvme-intel-nand-read-2200mb-s-write-900mb-s430k-230 Memory - http://www.scan.co.uk/products/16gb-(4x4gb)-corsair-ddr4-vengeance-lpx-black-pc4-19200-(2400)-non-ecc-unbuffered-cas-14-16-16-31-xm PSU - http://www.scan.co.uk/products/850w-evga-supernova-g2-fully-modular-80-plus-gold-708a-single-rail-sli-crossfirex-support-1x-140mm-f Case - http://www.scan.co.uk/products/aerocool-x-predator-black-orange-ultimate-full-tower-gaming-case-with-side-window-w-o-psu Comes to about 1700, so I'd need a CPU cooler, a storage drive (maybe, but that can always wait til next month if really necessary) and windows 10 with the other £300; no idea what windows costs if I'm honest. If anybody out there has been keeping up with parts and stuff lately and has any suggestions they'd certainly be welcome.

I'm not sure about 1 and 4 because I prefer the front-wired variants and I managed to nab a Spectre. But you do need recoil-line specific outer barrels due to the way the base area is shaped to mate with the upper; I may have seen some standard ones used (or heard of it anyway) but it takes a lot of machining. Inner barrels are quite standard luckily.

I'm not 100% sure there's enough depth to the metal for a QD socket and I'm not sure how precise of a machine job it is to put the indentations within the circular cut; probably a bit beyond the work I have access to. Obviously if I manufactured in plastic that wouldn't be an option anyway. Of course there are ways to go QD with the sling attachment near the base of the stock (if you want both parts of your sling QD rather than just a QD on the front that is), but I prefer my simple paracord loop using a sling that has 2 paraclips like the MS3. I don't really trust QDs in general, even with RS parts the tolerances vary too much from what I've seen for my liking and stuff can disconnect itself when it shouldn't a little too easily.

Custom low-pro picatinny replacement panels for my TM SCAR-L. I originally commissioned these something around 6 months ago, but given how much I hated the shape and feel of the front area of the rifle when fitted with the stock rail segments these slick panels been well worth the wait. The original idea came to me when I took the stock rail panels off one day and realised how simple their geometry ctually was. At the time I'd removed all my accessories from the front as I'd originally mounted an RVG and some XTMs up there, but they made the front of the gun so horribly fat compared to the skinny tubes I run on my ARs that I just hated the ergonomics. I'd gone down to just ladder covers at which point having any picatinny up there was entirely pointless, so a buddy of mine who's very handy with a mill constructed the side pieces from some bar stock and the 6 o/clock portion from a tube of appropriate circumference. The screws on the side are stock, the ones on the lower were purchased separately and the heads machined, I'm sending them off to have slots for a flat head screwdriver milled in before getting anodised to finish the set completely. Of course when I collected these and paid for them a couple of weeks ago, I then saw these bad boys about 2 days later and my world crumbled around me: http://www.parkermountainmachine.com/store/p81/PMM_SCAR_16%2F17_Mlok_Rail_Panels.html But that's life. I doubt the TM recoil SCAR is particularly close to the dimensions of the RS anyway, though given the comparative rarity of SCARs vs ARs in both airsoft and the real world it's not the sort of knowledge I'm likely to come across. Unless I can somehow get a personal audience with Travis Haley who is probably the only person on the planet who owns both. In an ideal world I'd get the panels I have here somehow 3D scanned and then made in plastic to sell on as I think they're a great improvement to the feel of the rifle, they're extremely lightweight (at the front of the gun where it matters most), super easy to swap in in place of the stock rails and would hopefully be quite reasonably priced when made for plastic given their simplicity. Sadly I've not a clue how I'd got about that, but either way I'm very pleased with the improvements in the feel to my gun.

Now I'm even more annoyed because the RS Rainier recievers only have the mountain logos on the front/left with the billet style lowers, the normal USGI shape forged lowers are blank on the front and left of the magwells, so OCT have going to all that effort to create a faithful replica type product of something that doesn't exist. Gah...

lol.. really? Got any links to all these new quad rails that are being released/in development? From absolutely everything I've seen and purchased they're very much going M-LOK and KeyMod continues, barely any quad rails released to the RS AR market in the states in the last couple of years. BCM, Daniel Defense, Noveske, Erathr3, Midwest Industries, Rainier Arms, Fortis Mfg, ALG Defense, B5 Systems, Magpul, Geissele, Parallax Tactical, Knights Armament, Hodge Defense, SLR Rifleworks, SMOS Arms, MEGA Arms, Seekins Precisions, Armalite, VLTOR... just a short list of a partial selection of the companies doing KeyMod and M-LOK forends, many of whom have either completely dropped quad picatinny from their product selections over the last couple of years having produced them in the past, or entirely side-lined it to focus primarily on lighter, more streamlined solutions.

Anybody successfully mounted a QD receiver end plate? I fitted a MAG branded GBBr one to my mid-length SOCOM a while back, but only just now tried to attach a sling. Turns out there's not enough clearance between the hole for the QD and the castle nut for said sling to actually fit in to place. The plate itself seems reasonable quality and dremelling it out to fit as I'd done with GBB ASAPs in the past went fine, but I'm guessing that either TM castle nuts are a little larger than usual or the QD socket in the plate sits a bit higher than usual (or a bit of both). Pretty annoying given that grinding out the insides of these things can be something of a chore I must admit.

Was about to say it looks like a gas gun with that grip angle. Surprised Dytac have managed to pull that off, will definitely be picking up a couple of those grips to try out. Looks pretty realistic being all BCM with the Geissele trigger in there; which is the handy thing about BCM because their grips, stock and rail are all really good so you don't necessarily need to cherry pick the best stuff from other manufacturers. May have to swap out some stuff on my Avalon/KMR build now after seeing that... what brands are the trigger and the compensator?

Would any of them play without eye pro...? So how do they justify not putting any on the dog? There's no way you can 100% guarantee some *Ubar* won't shoot it, neither can you guarantee it won't react badly to some element of the game and try to harm a player (more of a hazard with a bigger dog admittedly, but still). *fruitcage* stupid idea, to put it mildly.
