  1. I meant a zip going all the way down the torso. I didn't realise it came out like that.

Sorry, probably just me being dense, how do you mean coming 'out'?

Not to mention the fore-bearer to the modern combat shirt, the Crye G1 combat shirt. The only ones I've seen without are the Massif combat shirts, the ICE tactical FR shirt, and the 762 gear FR MC shirt, but those last two are more of a long sleeve T-shirt than anything else.

My shirt pictured there is actually the ICE Firestorm, 10" or so zip on there, though perhaps that was a recent change. To be honest I'm regretting not getting the Arc'Teryx TALOS now since it wasn't all that much more and I prefer the more conventional materials used, but oh well. At least when I eventually get to Afghan I'll know that I can bring the ICE shirt with me and have something fire resistant.

  2. I saw those in your video, really liking the AOR2 trousers. I didn't realise that UBACS had a zip down the front, kind of seems odd to have that.

Does it? Fairly standard feature to be honest, all the brit issue UBACS over the years have partial zips; crye gen 2 and 3, tru-spec xtreme, 5.11, arc-teryx and helikon combat shirts...

I don't suppose you know of any other brand bladders that are like the one you just got, but available within the UK would you?

'Source Hydration', first google result mate.

Vtac belt? I'm looking to get one of those ASAP.

Impressive piece of equipment, the air-spacer mesh is excellent. Unfortunately you can't hang things like dump pouches out underneath as with a lot of belts, but if you wanted to use a drop-leg holster or whatever then you can just weave out your duty belt to facilitate that no problem.

  3. That little thingy in the very top-left corner of the light blue box, above the bold 'B'.

When you first type out a post, put in your url code and all that, it's fine and pretty much works in the same way as it ever did before the last update. However, when you click preview to see whether your formatting will display correctly once submitted (as I always do) all the BB code transforms in to an exact preview of the post; then when you hit the switch, it goes totally the opposite way and displays so much code it's ridiculous. Every single piece of text has code around it for font, size, colour and alignment.

Also in the last thread I started (gear and clothing review section) whenever I try to edit the post, it simply ignores my alterations when I click 'submit' and reverts back to exactly the way it was before. Sufficed to say when you're trying to post up something fairly lengthy with a mixture of lots of pictures, text, videos and other things thrown in there, it becomes pretty much impossible to get the end product looking neat and tidy.

A few snaps especially for the forum. Starting off with the ankle closure:

I should mention that in my haste I made some a slight error in describing the pocket configurations in the video. They're not entirely identical between the 2 legs, the left has a small multi-tool sized pocket just below the standard trouser pocket which is mounted externally, the right leg also has an identically sized pocket but it is hung internally and does not feature a velcro closure flap. I also forgot to mention in there that these do indeed feature the standard style slanted trouser pockets near the top, as you'd expect.

Overall, despite the fact they are extremely light-weight and allow excellent heat dissipation and freedom of movement, I would have preferred the heavier, more solidly built Ultimate Direct Action trousers from OPS. Sadly, at the time of writing the Fast Response is the only variant available from UR-Tac in the AOR2 material/pattern, though I'd still say that build quality and resilience is at least on a par with my Crye Gen 2 combat pants, if not better.

  5. Right..

The SOPMOD and all its' derivatives, as well as the SCAR-L and all its' variants, all accept the same type of mag. One that is styled after the real steel 30 round 5.56x45mm NATO magazine.

The SCAR-H, is, in real life, a rifle chambered to fire 7.62x51mm ammunition. This means that its' magazine is far winder and also slightly shorter than the 5.56 mags. If you already own a SOPMOD or SCAR-L, then you will need new mags if you intend to pick up the SCAR-H.

Hopefully these clear side-on views of the weapons will help to demonstrate:

    M4large.jpg

    FN_SCAR-H_(Standard).jpg

  6. So you can personally guarantee that every single one of those people in that massive crowd removed their batteries and definitely didn't have any BBs in their mags? Not one single person with an AEG that has a really awkward battery placement went "aw *fruitcage* it, I'll just be careful not to pull the trigger", or that nobody's using a GBBr and left some gas in a mag?

Not sure why I'm even asking to be honest, because even if you could (which you can't) then it's still irrelevant. Airsoft weapons should be treated the same as real ones, you don't put mags in housings or fingers in trigger guards until it is safe to do so. The safe zone is not a safe place to be doing so.

Not having a go at you personally, but a lot people from all across the globe come on to view this forum and the majority don't actually post, as you'll see from any given thread's posts vs views counts. It would not be good to allow all those folks to come away thinking behaviour like that is a good idea, or indeed acceptable.

  7. but MK2 + MTP, MK6 helmet in MTP (if use MK6helemet need cover DDPM) cover look more than strange

You pretty much have to be in Afghan to get the MTP Mk 4 Osprey, it's not a case of just nabbing one off a surplus site, they're brand spanking new kit and not that many even exist yet.

Also unlike some new-ish gear (the CS95 cut MTP for example) those things are actually quite tightly controlled/looked after by the system. Not the sort of thing you'd get away with just flogging on ebay (as a member of the services that is).

  8. @CK: My Khybers have held up great over the past year or so. I've finally retired them after daily wear (Monday-Saturday every week since I bought them) after ripping out the heel cup on one of the boots. I didn't unlace it quite far enough and had spent the whole day slogging around in a creek. While I'm ###### that they're ruined (or at least will take some time to fix), the rest of the boot has held up admirably.

That's excellent to hear actually, thanks. Hadn't heard any long term reviews before now so that is a pleasant surprise.

  9. Thanks CKinnerly, I may have to order one of these, any idea when you'll post up your review?

It'll mostly be in video format up on YT, probably some time next week seeing as I don't get internet hooked up in my new block room until this friday, and I will be in no fit state for airsoft related things this weekend...

I have however taken a fair few extras pictures specifically for the forum, just to give some views and details that can't really be brought across in a video. So hopefully, between those two things, all bases should be covered.

    *albartroth* :P

    Double *albartroth*!

CK, thanks for the extra info. Looking forward to any other pictures/review that you'll be doing.

    Sorry lads.

    Scuff: Happy to help mate.

  10. hows the quality? and sizing please?

if poss, a quick pic of it on?

I second this, would like to see some pictures of it worn and any info/thoughts would be nice.

Well, due to a myriad of factors this is unfortunately the best I can do right now, so horrific mypsace-esque pic coming up.

    IMAG0321.jpg

It's riding high right now, but a load of mags and a bladder full of water will sort that.

Quality: I tend to be of the opinion that when making tac gear there is a certain 'ceiling' as it were with nylon gear. Once you've used 1000D cordura, mil-spec webbing and thread, double/triple/quad stitched everything, top notch 3D mesh, all IR compatible, ITW hardware, the best hook+loop you can get and all with a solid QC program... well you can't really do anything much more. All the warrior gear I own hits that ceiling, especially the most recent stuff and the DCS is no exception.

Sizing: This is not for the larger airsofter, it's the only piece of LBE I've ever owned that doesn't require me to adjust it down to the smallest setting (or beyond, as was the case with my RICAS compact) in order to fit me snugly.

I won't go in to all the details above that as I've got a review on the way. Sufficed to say, I think anyone in the UK who doesn't have a very specific reason to would be mental to spend the money on a JPC/6094/SOHPC/etc when this is available for £90. It's still not perfect, nothing is (even the apparently magical can-do-no-wrong EI/Paraclete), but it gets pretty darn close.

*Also, while on the subject are there any UK retailers stocking BFG Ten Speeds in 5.56? Failing that where's the best place to buy them online/import etc?

I reckon I'd have found one by now if there were one. Op Tac and SKD Tac are both very good retailers, but you will get stung hard up the *albartroth* on the VAT if you import from either. The chinese clones however do have good reviews, I'd check those out on EBB as a solidly viable alternative for airsoft use.
