I'll the the pics speak for themselves....

I tried a set of cocking handle that uses the mounting base for the Marui Bomar, but since I had the C-More mounted by a gunsmith before I got the cocking handle, the space underneath the C-more is not enough for the stock sight. I'll have to get another cocking handle(maybe the ProG4) that fits flush to the profile of the slide...

The gun is not zeroed or tuned yet. Test fired today and chronoed 370fps using .20g and PDI 6.05 barrel. Will need a bit more fitting work to get the gun working well, and I'll probably cut down the stock sight base just to temperarily have a cover for the sight cutout...

The word from my parts vendor is that he has received the custom parts from ProG4, and that I should get them in my hands sometime next week. This along with the C-More sight that I am getting professionally mounted should also be here sometime next week. So I am hopeful by the weekend that I can have this gun put together and start finetuning and testing....I've gotten hold of most of my internal parts at this time....so it should be fairly straight forward from that point on....

So the project is progressing nicely.....today saw the arrival of TruGrip pre-cut grip tape. For $30 you get a pack of 5 and the application is simply cleaning the grip with alchohol wipe the package comes with to get rid of the oil from your hand, then peel off the backing of the tape and apply it by lining up the edge and stretching it slightly over to the other side. The texture is what I'd say being equivelent of ~150 grit sandpaper, but maybe slightly less sharp so you can use it alright without glove. And it sure is less slippery than the stock plastic grip.

Note the updated slide catch. I've been wanting to get one with the extended slim handle, since the Nova's 1911 slidecatch don't work that well on 2011 , I track down a Nine-Ball version and used that instead. No problem with it and it is a drop in fit. Only shame is that it is probably a pot-metal piece with some sort of coating on it, so it doesn't feel as good as a steel/stainless steel one....I've also sanded and polish the mag release.

Next update should be the C-more sight. Going to drill and tap the AS frame for that, and maybe some lightening of the plastic slide to see how that works out...

The arrival of the Hi-Capa was an exciting affair. From eHobbyAsia, the gun came(with an easily removable orange tip), along with the upgraded springs I ordered as well...

Didn't bother to test fire it and soon get down to business. My previous Hi-Capa was a used gun, and I'd imagine there might have been some revision to the design over the years. And sure enough I did find a difference. With my SV kit I've noticed that the slide sits further forward then it supposed to. With some investigation I've discovered it had to do with the design of the Hop-up unit itself. And with this brand new stock gun, the difference was pretty clear...

I am not sure when this change happened, but I noticed on the 1911A1 hop-up something similar exists as well. Since I've decided the direction of this build, and that the relative position between the slide and frame isn't as critical in the appearance compared to the SV kit, I decided to swap the new unit to the SV...

So swapping the AS frame in is a straight forward affair, it requires few parts from the stock gun. The frame came with its own sear, valve striker, and striker spring. The sear and striker are stainless steel, and because of that I am wary of using the stock hammer. Fortunetely from my parts bin I have a KM Headshop Stainless oval hammer, so in goes the used hammer with the new parts, along with the stock sear disconnector and the valve reseting plunger and spring. I had a hard time trying to remove the roll-pin from the stock trigger, to no avail. So I am gonna wait until I can get some sort of a punch for that work. About 30 mins later the gun is reassembled. With a SD Stainless outer barrel, as well as the guarder springs. One of the objective for this build was to evaluate the feasibility of using the stock plastic slide due to its lightweight. Come next week I'll bring the slide to a mill to see if I can trim more weight off the ABS slide....Should it gets f-ed up completely I have a spare SD OPS-MRP slide around I can use....

At any rate, at this interrim period, this is what it looks like now....not much difference I don't think...

This gun right now shoots very nicely. Crisp blowback and smooth trigger pull, and the power and accuracy seems very good. Consider the mods to this gun rightnow(minus the frame I guess) is relatively minor, I think its a solid testiment to the base Hi-Capa's performance. It is not until I shoot the SV Hi-Capa back to back til I realize the satisfying metallic "clank" the metal slide adds. But for a race gun the plastic slide might be the answer. Can't wait to try it out with the light weight BBU and modified ABS slide...

Next wait will be longer I think, just placed order for the slide, barrel, comp, and BBU today, I don't expect to get them for a while.......until next time...

Well isn't airsoft wonderful, it eats away your soul while draining your wallet like no other.....

As parts starting to come in I figure I might as well make a blog of it to log my progress and try to keep track of where this might be going.

The premise is simple, an open-class IPSC style racer based on a TM Hi-Capa 5.1. Doesn't sound that different from many who have gone through the same project, and I don't think it'll be that different. But hopefully as with my 1911 and my Infinity SV I can add some of my personal touch to it, enough to make it unique. As mentioned the parts are starting to come in. But alas no gun yet. First to arrive is Airsoft Surgeon Hi-Capa frame. After the Infinity SV project I am truly impressed by these. Long rails coupled with redesigned sear/striker mechanism means a smooth trigger pull and slide action, all with next to no slack or slop in the slide/frame interface. Next to some truly skillful airsoft gun smith's custom work I think this frame gives you the next best thing. For this project I have again gone with a SV marking frame, with government length dust cover.

In the above pic you can also see my choice of trigger....

What's next? Well the GBB itself should be coming this week. The reason I got them seperately was because Redwolf does not have 5.1 in stock....

I have something special inmind when it comes to the slide and the barrel....multiple options are being investigated, hopefully in the coming month all should be revealed in due time.....

Tune in randomly to see if I've made any progress....
