  1. Time for a pic from an earlier era! 1968 Pattern DPM smock with hood, worn with olive green Lightweight Trousers (aka "denims") as was common in milder weather, 1958 Pattern webbing CEFO (Combat Equipment, Fighting Order) including respirator haversack on the belt and entrenching tool attached to yoke. Headgear is RM Commandos for a Falklands themed event at Foxtrot 58:
  2. Some tense (and lighter-hearted) moments during a pistol-only mission at Foxtrot 58's urban area, last summer. (The bulge in the smock is a gas bottle, not my belly - yet!)
  3. Op Balkan Backlash, the March weekend event at Foxtrot 58: - British SF team prior to moving out for the Saturday daylight phase: - and still attacking the Balkan SF base on Sunday, after a hectic night phase: Anyone who hasn't tried a night-time milsim airsoft event, is missing the best part!
  4. A couple or three more pics from Op Warlord at Foxtrot 58, photography by Take Aim mag staff:
  5. Wow! Nice pics and an amazing site, just looked up Brit-tac now - never mind being hit, the mere sound of bbs rattling off the walls in those confined spaces must be pretty scary!
  6. Some pics of myself in the first game in the "Take Aim" magazine Warlord campaign, last Sunday at Foxtrot 58, playing with Team Kosa (who, being Russian, were well suited to playing the role of the Russian Mafia and were dressed head-to-toe in genuine kit, while all I couldmanage was a flecktarn parka, a hat with a red star, and an AKMS). Kosa in action can be seen in their gallery, the Warlord pics are the sets dated on 17 March; here: http://picasaweb.google.com/airsoftkosa Das vidanya!
  7. Some of the 2009 action at my local site, Foxtrot 58:
  8. Crikey! Makes sense tho! And good to know. I seem to be getting good performance with the hopup at the sweet spot so will leave mine stock for now. Would you mind describing how you disabled the full auto? Not sure I'd want to do that for now, but it would be useful for owners to know. I suppose the ideal would be to have the first position as semi, and the "fully forward" one as full auto if you wanted it, but I daresay that's probably not a practical proposition, or they'd have made it that way in the first place?
  9. Cheers Al, good to know it's not hard to disable the EBB - and that the AEG can live happily ever after! Trust you'll get yours sorted eventually.
  10. 1970s NI "patrol order"(first 2 in training session so no eye protection)
  11. Op Clean Sweep (Falklands themed weekend event with Take Aim mag in attendance), Foxtrot 58, July 2009: Raid on Top Malo, self with SLR, '58 webbing in Combat Equipment, Fighting Order http://file051a.bebo.com/2/original/2010/0...2245346940o.jpg Change of head-dress, trousers & weapon (to M16A1 with borrowed image intensifier), before heading out for the night phase, bergens laden: Another change of head-dress, back to the SLR, and under fire near Wireless Ridge (in daylight; you can see the sheep were well used to it by now!) Taking the Argentine surrender, in yet
  12. Hi Al yes it's a great AEG! So far, yes I'm running it with the blowback on, quite like the sound tho it's no competition for a nice loud bang! I'm guessing you disable the blowback by taking off the rear sight, partly opening receiver via the body locking lever, sliding back the top cover and removing the blowback rod & spring assembly. I also had to take off the pivot screws on mine to get that far, which I needed to do, to replace the unrealistic carry handle with a real one. Tripped and fell flat on my face a couple of weeks ago going full tilt across a rough track and the SL
  13. I have, and use regularly, both the KA FAL (fitted with various real SLR components) and a KA L1A1 (squaddies never used that designation, just called them "SLR"). I got the KA FAL because for a long time it was the only FAL/SLR look-alike available. The KA FAL is a bit inaccurate visually, having a very wide lower receiver and the pistol grip/safety a bit too far forward. It's based on a short-lived FAL variant (the West German G1) but has a plastic butt whereas the original I believe was wooden; so it's not very good as a "mainstream" FAL, with its unusual handguard and flash-hider.
  14. I believe the entire UK stock of SLRs has long been disposed of, apart from service museums and the like. Agreed the KA SLR is a great weapon, construction feels sturdier than the heavier Star SLR, and the KA has fewer compromises in appearance than the FAL altho the pistol grip is a bit too rounded in cross-section and a tad too far forward (perhaps so the safety catch can rotate to the real full auto position for single shot fire), the flash hider is externally dimensionally correct (except the bayonet lug would need filed to fit a bayonet) but noticeably "bored out" and the carry hand
  15. I read online somewhere recently that Maranyl was "authorised" for use in 1969. As to when it appeared in service...I have seen a pic taken in NI between 1970 and 1973 by David Barzilay in "The British Army in Ulster" volume 1 which is the earliest definite evidence I've seen of a plastic stock on an SLR, though this was not a full trawlthru all my photo sources. Pics of 1 Para on Bloody Sunday, Jan 72, seem to be all or nearly all wood stock but one or two MAY be plastic. From what I remember, wood was common up to about 1974-5, plastic increasingly common afterwards. The rounded "Australian"
  16. SLRs didn't have "trademarks" as such, just the engraved markings, including a sort of serial number prefix which identified where and when the weapon was built eg mine (my Army issue real steel one) was UE58 A53317 = built at Enfield in 1958. From memory, the Star's engravings look a little more authentic but both are pretty good. Despite shooting at about 300 compared to about 400, the KA is only moderately inferior in range due to a very good KA hop-up. Star has a RIS mount which replaces the rifle's top cover; this is basically as used by the real SUIT optical sight but with a RI
  17. Mine is going strong after about 8 months regular use, alternatig with my AA SA80. I usually use it in preference to my Star SLR because of the built-in full-auto and 550-rd hi-caps. Battery life seems very good despite the blow-back, which is a nice feature and (while a long way short of the real thing) gives you much more of sensation that you're firing a weapon, than the usual AEG. Pity the carry handle is the wrong shape but it's not that noticeable and I'll replace it one of these days with a real one. The flash hider is a bit thin tho the right shape and length, and IIRC the ha
  18. Now that's weird, my FAL mags (early production, but both 90 and 550-rounders) just about clip into my KA L1A1's magwell but they fall out at the slightest pressure, not at all secure. And my KA L1A1 mags are too tight for the FAL's mag catch to close around. Strange! Maybe later-production FAL and SLR mags are compatible, which would explain why different people report different results. Looking forward to reading your comparative review! IMHO, the Star SLR is generally somewhat the more accurate replica (apart from the rounded contours of the receiver just below the rear sight mount, an
  19. I got both top cover and the actual sight from ebay.com (USA) together, for about £110 incl postage IIRC, having patiently watched and waited on both UK and US ebays. Confirmed before bidding with seller that he'd post to UK. Didn't have any probs with customs, I might have been lucky there even tho the import was genuinely harmless and to the best of my knowledge and belief legal. I have seen the identical (save for the data panel) Israeli version (without top cover IIRC) on UK ebay so they do show up from time to time. I think I saw the Soviet copy somewhere too, I googled its designation, b
  20. There's a post here saying KA told someone they won't, and another post saying the FAL mags do fit the SLR, tho not very tightly.
  21. Just got mine, only test fired so far, some random observations: - flash-hider goes slightly to one side (barely noticeable) -some components needed tightening (out of box, gas block rotated about barrel, barrel has some side-to-side play, some looseness in handguard), all minor - rear receiver not quite accurate (tapers, has rounded contours along upper sides not sharp edges, never saw a real SLR like that, mine wasn't) - some areas of fragility reported - hop-up/air nozzle can break unless former pushed fwd when stripping, selector plate siad to be fragile) -sand gro
  22. Wot happened to your sling swivels? Both front and rear aren't there in the pics. Do you have to fit them or did it come without? Nice weapon, mine is still stuck in Customs, only things I really don't like are the inaccurate carry handle and the fact the steel parts are that silly grey colour. Plus it would have been nice if they'd picked A53317 as the serial #, my old SLR's.
  23. '68 Pattern smock, OG lightweights, '58 Pattern CEFO less the ressie haversack but with a few extra pouches on the belt, King Arms FAL with real SLR Hythe rear sight, flash hider, sling, carry handle; slide & cocking handle visually modified; front sling swivel moved up against gas block. Plus real wooden butt and handguard (fitted by Big Sam of Foxtrot 58 Airsoft)
  24. Hi Adam as this is a clone of the G&G SA80, Stealthbomber's guide for that weapon is probably a good source, here: http://www.arniesairsoft.co.uk/forums/inde...st&id=25713
