  1. Interesting. How's the surface finish of the Guarder? In some of the pics I've seen on various retailer's sites, the black finish tends to have subtle variances. These inconsistencies made me not want to buy them, but your 1911 seems to have consistent black throughout. Very nice btw!
  2. How's the Guarder Body kit? Was it much hassle to install? Much modification needed?
  3. Titleist, is that the Tango Down Bipod? Got any side pics of that bad boy?
  4. Definitely on my to buy list. I've been a KSC Glock owner for years. The one thing that dissappointed me when I got the TM Glock was the feel of the plastic slide. It just felt much more plastic-y than some of the plastic slides on my other guns (like my Japanese KSC M1911, and my WA Infinity). So I'm really looking forward to this and I hope it comes out soon. Question though... the serial numbers. Are those unique per set or are they all the same?
  5. I think the G&P 9.6v 2200mah crane batteries are all NiMH (link). And the G&P 9.6v 1700mah crane batteries are NiCd (link). Are you sure yours is NiCd?
  6. I used to use a similar type battery with my MOD Stocks and crane stocks. But I found that abrasion on the wire (just like in your pic) would occur. I have since switched to using G&P Crane Stocks and G&P Crane Stock type batteries. The benefits being that (a) the battery configuration is rigid and ( the wires are kept out of the way © and lastly, the batteries are higher capacity 9.6V 2200 mah NiMH batteries. The old ones I used were 9.6V 1700mah NiCad batteries. Switching to the G&P NiMH batteries, the stock now slides nice and smoothly (no binding and much fewer wires to ge
  7. The "after" looks infinitely better than the "before" pics. Excellent job! How did you polish it up so well? Did you end up repainting the black parts? They look more matte than the before pics.
  8. Here's the 1911 line up. From left to right: Japanese KSC 1911 (plastic slide) Taiwanese KSC 1911 (metal slide) TokyoMarui / PGC 1911 (metal frame and slide, waiting on a PGC metal barrel) To really illustrate the differences between KSC's mags, in both pics below, Japanese KSC 1911 on the left, Taiwanese KSC 1911 on the right: Considering on UN Company's website, when you click on the Taiwanese Metal Slide 1911 they list the KSC Japanese style mag as a optional accessory at the bottom of the page: Click link here it really shouldn't
  9. I only just got the Taiwan 1911 last night. It was in a shipment along with the TM/PGC 1911. I was a lot more excited about the TM/PGC than I was about the Taiwan 1911 and I just had enough time to test out the TM/PGC, not the Taiwan 1911. So I'm afraid that I'm unable to confirm or deny whether my Taiwan 1911has the same issues. I'll probably have more time to test it this week so I'll be sure to get back to you! I've been running Green Gas on my Japanese 1911 for some time now, and that one only has a plastic slide. It hasn't failed yet... although it might be a matter of time (knock on
  10. res0290, thanks for the suggestions! After doing some research (mostly in some of the earlier pages of this thread), it turns out that while the copies of Simonich's Gunner Grips are indeed much cheaper, their color tends to be off and much more orange (at least in the Coyote Tan variant). Other comments I've read on this and on RS boards is that Simonich's Gunner Grips are pretty rough in texture and tend to be tough on the hands, but considering I always wear gloves (especially for CQB games) they sound like they'll do the trick. As for their aesthetics, their definitely an acquired taste
  11. I checked out those Cocobolo grips... very nice indeed! Might need to get me some. Thanks for the suggestion! Regarding the rubber grips, I'm looking for grips that are essentially the same style as the classic grips, but in black rubber. Most of the ones I come across by Hogue and Pachmayr tend to be wrap around grips. Any suggestions... or am I just not looking hard enough (I admit that that is entirely possible and I appologize if that is the case)? Has anyone tried some ultra thin grips instead of the regular width grips? The Ultra thins are more or less the same except that the
  12. Hey Silent, which lower did you end up putting on your MRP? I seem to recall you were going to go with a Zeke Colt lower. How did the match up between a different lower and the MRP upper go? Was there much machining involved. I like my MRP, but I would probably prefer a 10.5" barrel on it. The problem I'm having right now is that when UNCo. installed the kit for me, whatever they did to it made it pretty much impossible to get the hop up out. It's just stuck in there. So if I ever have any problems with the hop up... I'm in deep $#!T. Plus they never sent me the installation manual that
  13. Well, I figured the grips that will come with my PGC fitted TM 1911 (from UNCo.) will probably be the original stock faux wood grips that came with the TM 1911. So I was wondering if the TM 1911 would be compatible with RS grips. Glad to hear that they are. Can anyone recommend decent wood grips and decent rubber grips?
  14. thegunrunner, Is that the PGC kit on a TM? And does anyone know if a TM 1911 can use RS grips? Thanks!
  15. What HBC said. Strip all the paint and then re-apply a couple coats on the clean "canvas". You'd get a better and more even finish that way. Never tried the soda bath method though. What kind of soda are we talking about? And will it really leave the plastic and metal parts unaffected? I seem to recall science experiments from my youth showing a copper penny getting corroded and eventually dissolving away in a glass of coke.
  16. OPTactical is a pretty awesome and very reliable online retailer. I don't believe they have any of their own branded items, they just sell products made by other companies. They have generally some of the lowest prices out there, not quite as low as BoTach, but almost in that price range and they make up for the difference in that they will ship the same business day whereas Botach might make you wait weeks to months before sending your items... and that's if they send them at all (I live less than a mile from Botach and still get this slow treatment). OPTactical also has a much better rang
  17. Is the High flow valve easy to install?
  18. I was looking on one of the online stores and it listed "Hi-Flow Valve" as a modification installed on their TM 1911 along with the PGC Kit. I'm a little confused though.... the "Hi-Flow Valve", is that installed in the gun or in the gun's magazine? If it's installed in the gun then that's fine, but if it's installed in the mag... then would I have to get a Hi-Flow Valve for every mag I get for that gun!?!! Also, the PGC outer barrel. Would you say that it's easy or difficult to install on a gun that has had the PGC slide and frame installed already? Thanks!
