I pop in now and then, but things seem pretty quiet.
I still have most of my collection, but being a 'Chairsofter', none of it's been out of a box in 5 years+ - Chances are all the seals are buggered and they're just a load of paperweights now.
I was inspired in my early days by DumboRAT, with his fantastic reviews and amazing knowledge. but I'm not sure he was an Arnie's regular.
I recall he was a surgeon in training, so I guess that's what he does these days.
Nice to see Garry still around (one of the few people I met in person in the airsoft world, along with some of the AI Mag team and Mike and John from Elite, who shipped me boxes of shiny Western Arms goodies to review on a regular basis - Ah, heady days!) and most of the names he mentioned are familiar.
Other names I remember are Wege, BigAl, Renegade Cow, Hitman No2 and Utty (I'll admit I've done a bit of trawling and see a few of those old names still active).
I'm sure few here will remember me and even my reviews have disappeared from the web now, so it all seems a long time ago...
Facebook has killed a lot of Web Content - I've hosted a non-Airsoft related website for 20+ years and someone was looking for a document on a FB group recently - A number of people commented it used to be on my website, but it seemed no-one actually bothered using a search engine to find it still is!
I think it's the same mentality that makes binge watching box sets rather than waiting a week to see what Jack Bauer was going to blow up next the modern fad! Is it any wonder people can spread 'alternative facts' so easily if FB is the only place people look?
These days I spend most of my gun related time watching Forgotten Weapon's videos on YouTube - Very good content if you've not seen it!

I'm sure, but my interests have moved on too.For what it's worth, I'm sure there are plenty of collectors who merely go through UKARA as a token rather than actual recreation.

Not been around for ages, but I had to read such an informed and detailed review of the 712, being one of my favourite handguns.
Great comparison to the real thing, which it stands up to remarkably well, I think.
A real shame that the VCR act killed airsoft collecting, I'd have had one of these for sure!
Thanks for taking the time, great review!
Cheers!

DenTrinity still has em. I suspect the other retailers will eventually restock because Marushins aren't limited run like Tanaka.
Maybe not quite so limited as Tanaka (with some special finishes), but Marushin do tend to release in very widely spaced batches - It might be years before another batch of a specific Marushin model gets released.
Tanaka tend to do the same thing, although often with different surface finishes.
Of the Japanese makers, only TM (and KSC to a degree) seem to have a continuous production of their range.

I've also had a Tanaka, KSC and Tanio Koba USP. The Tanaka Stainless version i owned had the most convincing "metal" finish i'd ever seen and the frame's real-ness (if that's a word <img src="http://www.arniesairsoft.co.uk/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />) completely put my KSC to shame.
I think you're being a bit too harsh about the Tanaka or more likely you got a total lemon. Mine worked well until i abused it with green gas and broke the cylinder <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> the mag never spat bbs out and it could easily empty more than one mag per gas fill. Though it has to be said that the mags did eventually leak. The TK is the best feeling and the one that seems the best engineered but the KSC is the one that worked in the widest range of temperatures.
Tanaka guns seem to vary a lot with versions. Many hate their SIG P226, but I'd say mine is one of the very best GBBs I've ever handled (it's a Heavyweight) - most of the haters have the standard ABS one.
I'd vote for the TK amongst USPs, but the KSC one was good even before S7.
On the other hand, the Tanaka Hi-Power looks good and is a nice replication, but it's not accurate and always feels a bit fragile to me.

And, oh Tanaka HP owner, do the WE mags fit the Tanakas?
I've been after a second mag for my Tanaka for years!

^^ You reckon? I know manufacturer figures can sometimes be a bit off, i reckon it'll touch 150 without any mods and a tail wind, tuning box or remap i reckon it'll see 170
they reckoned my seat would only do 98mph!!!
Jsut to note i didnt do that speed on a public road, it was at an aerodrome that a friend works at
Top speed is much harder than 0-60 time to improve, because you're fighting air pressure. I don't imagine you'd get it anywhere near 170 without an awful lot more power that would need more than a remap.
Even the 15 MPH over the tested limited (all the independent tests seem to get around 135 too) even with a tail wind seems a lot.
Still 135's hardly shabby.

Cool review - Nice to see a springer get a proper review!
Some photos would be good.

This is my latest car
Lexus IS220D, 177bhp, 0 - 60 in 8 seconds, top speed ive had is 143mph, im sure it has more though?
Lexus reckon 135 MPH top speed, so you shouldn't see much more than 143 on the speedo.

with the FiveseveN's proprietary round able to pierce armor ...the gun was perfect
What for?

Did you paint the slides white for any special reason?
Cheers.

And in continuing my maximum bling series, I present you my KJW Elite IA
Mmmmm - That's great, would look amazing with some real steel grips.
Anyone know where I can get a threaded barrel for a WA Beretta Elite?
Cheers.
-
Is the rubber the same style as their other GBBs?
IF so, then it is easy enough to get a VSR10 barrel and trim as needed... surely?
Regarding that barrel length (OEM) I suspect that TM have left it as normal to avoid the power pushing past the .98J mark.
Absolutely - My SIIS does about 350fps on green.
As Wege says, a cut down VSR barrel should work (or you could use a full length one and fit a REALLY long silencer! )
Cheers.

Well, neither do M500s.
Yeah - don't hold your breath on a blued M29 HW!

^ this is the correct motorcycle.
Its an Aston Martin prototype racer at Le Mans. Theyve renamed the categories so many times Im not sure whether its a Group C, LMP, LM900 or whatever
Not quite
It IS real and it is a Lola Aston Martin LMP1, but it's at Silverstone (Stowe corner, I believe) - If it was Le Mans all the curbs would be blue and yellow
Cheers.

My current one - I quite liked the washed out look of the colour of the track.

Wow - Interesting to see innovation in the springer market - Kudos to TM.

I'm hoping for the chrome pimp ma 5-7 slide and frame...
Oh and, of course, the full auto conversion in full metal for $30 from Chinaclone!
Cheers.

Is it any different to the Detonics?
I think the Detonics piston is D shaped, isn't it? But I assumed that was just to save space...
Cheers.

The metal (and paint) looks a little rough in those areas, I guess it just reflects differently as hhsohn says.

What's the issue with 'necro-posting'?
Surely better here than creating a whole new topic to say he liked the G18 EBB? I really don't get the problem and in all the years I've been on forums I've yet to hear a valid reason why it's a problem.
The post was a valid follow up response to the original review, so why the hate?
Cheers
Replica Luger grips on a Tanaka/WE Luger?
in Just Handguns
Posted
Has anyone had any experience of fitting grips intended for Replica Lugers onto an airsoft one?
I took the grips off my Tanaka and they look quite different inside to the wood grips available, but that may not mean the wood grips will or could be made to fit.
Anyone attempted it and what level of work was required if it was possible?
Cheers.
