  1. Did the coke rust anything? Or was it just a wash off with water, dry, and everything was all right?

That looks really nice for sitting in soda for an hour :P

I did the same some time ago. You will see next month, the gun became a hell of rust.

Now i am looking for a new procedure.

It had a little bit of rust pre-coking, and this appears to have disappeared for now- I'll be interested to see what happens to it, rust-wise, but I suspect that since I cleaned it pretty thoroughly afterward that this isn't really any worse than wire-wooling or anything else, in the long run. The odd spray of silicon or similar should keep any serious oxidizing at bay, and as for the rest, hey, it's an AK.

  2. It was probably closer to an hour and a half, truth told. I'd reccomend anyone else thinking of doing it chucks something non-essential like a flashider into a glass of coke first, to test how it affects different finishes/metals.

But yes- chucked it in coke for an hour. Job done.

  3. Hmm, that's a really nice Real Sword type 56-1...

I guess I'd like it to look a bit more aged though. Maybe I should read Guinesses's awesome weathering guide and use various different finishing techniques to-

  5. sweeeeet gotta love the galil......imo the galil is the only 'ak' that you can cover with *suitcase* and it still lokks awesome (btw an aimpoint and foregrip is hardely *suitcase*, i'm speaking in general ;) )

What's the micro galil like, accuracy wise? I assume it's roughly on par with an mp5 or similar, due to the barrel length, but then I've seen king arms almost-but-not-quite-as-short micro-fal being silly accurate at range, so...

mod edit: attempting to transact sales outside the sales forums will get you suspended

Oh, and so the pictures continue; an aforementioned Ino/RMW/Guarder/LCT build

  6. veeeeeery veeery "smart" reply. If you consider the custom jobs as a argument you may run around with a hair dryer and calling it "my motofoka custom ak"

you need to uderstand that there are "unwriten rules" that are used to identify AKs, ofcourse you can do what ever you waaaant with your AK but dont go around AK purist and using that cheap argument about Real steal customs

    Arguably, yes, but that would be silly; the reality is, in airsoft terms (and to some degree, rs), theres little to nothing to differentiate between the posted AK and, for instance, this Saiga, which is the aforementioned Izhmash product (an AK103);

    ak103_skeleton.jpeg

My point was it's a little silly to get bogged down in "wrong mag!" semantics when, either through mass manufacture or one off custom jobs, people are using real steel versions of pretty much that rifle.

  7. Do you know that Izhmash produces "AK74" chambered in 7.62, with the skeleton stock ?

Not to mention the hundreds of custom jobs stateside, "khyber pass" and Uzbeki AKMs (although these often have an AKM flashider and gas block, they still have '74 sidefolding stocks). There are probably a couple thousand of those type of 7.62 chambering, 74 style sidefolders on the planet, so it's a valid mag choice. If you took an AK103, swapped the stock and furniture for that of an AK74, you'd have Ghost Leader's rifle, and it'd only take you like twenty minutes to do.

I was given this NBC top about a week back, and is pretty awesome for airsoft; I borrowed a friends ages ago and loved it- it's bulky enough that you can hide a decent fleece under there if you need warmth, or if it's summer it's equally breezy with just a t-shirt beneath it. Trousers dont quite match it, but I'm not pedantic enough to change them. Almost wish warrior made the rig I have in DPM, but OD still looks ok over the top.

  9. A friend pointed out the other day that my AK now looks like an oversize AKMSU/AK74SU hybrid. It's still an AK104 though, if it's anything, but that's still a pretty cool way of describing it.

    editcopy.jpg

Ever since Ive had a steel AK I cant go back to a cyma :/ I wish I could.

Exactly the same here, plastic feels rubbish in comparison to a nice big steel chunk. RMW/INO (and LCT too I guess, now) ftw, tbh.

  10. Yes sadly it is real. :(

Does anyone have any idea if the VFC ultimak (or "railed gas tube" as they non-copyright infringingly call it) will fit an Inokatsu/RMW AK? It's a going on my customised 104, so it'll be replacing a standard size gas tube, and theoretically I can't see any major problems- just wondering if anyone has given it a shot before, or if anyone knows how similar Inokatsu/RMW and VFC gas tubes are, generally...

  11. Wasn't sure about putting these up, but I guess technically these are airsoft because all the weapons featured are airsoft- they're actually production stills from a set I got to work on last month. Plus they are kind of cool.

  12. Ooh- ebaybanned.com are selling land arms AK parts, including their krebs custom rail systems, which is quite win if you want a tacticool AK that doesnt look awful*

*well some of us think all tacticool AKs look awful, but I digress...

  13. hey everyone with Inokatsu AK kits, what kind of mags do you use in them, do TM mags and MAG mags work?

For those with the RPK, what kind of AK Drum mags fit?

TM mags fit without issue, MAG mags need a tiny bit of filing (or a few reloads) to wear down, but barely anything- both feed fine, and I can really reccomend MAG mags. I use a Hero Arms drum in my RPK, though I ordered a STAR one (UNCompany screwed up the order). The Hero Arms feeds fine, though having to activate the pressure switch yourself is mildy annoying. Had to file quite a bit from the top of the drum to get it to fit fine though.

  14. Why they are already making them! Check www.uncompany.com

Are you sure? I can't find any on uncompany (or WGC/Redwolf et al). The RPK74 ones, sure, but no RPK long mags. I really hope you're right and I'm just missing something, because I'd love some long 7.62 AK mags :P

  15. I've just started using MAG waffle-type midcaps in my AK and they seem to be pretty awesome, I've had no feeding problems so far- there is a little bit of fitting to be done, they sit quite tight in the magwell currently, but it's nothing a couple or skirmishes or some quick sanding wont sort out. Given how well they seem to feed and how insanely cheap they are (plus they actually look quite good) it's quite a small issue.

And since I've just taken it because the last shot of my AK was quite scruffy, some nice, cleanly shot MAG-ified hybrid goodness below.

    hybrid.jpg

I just wish MAG would produce some RPK magazines as well as their current RPK74 ones ^_^ (hopefully they're already considering it)

Madness! An AK104 with a 74 style skeleton stock and RPK furniture?! MY EYES

Actually I really like this, originally set out to make something like the Krebs 104 and somewhere along the way I decided the temporary furniture I'd stolen from my RPK was actually quite win and now I'm not sure I want to replace it :P

  17. I will be reciving my Ultimak today :D

There better be pics up later then ^_^

I know it's been done once or twice before, so is there much fitting work putting an ultimak onto an Inokatsu/Guarder/RMW AK? Only I'm hopefully building a shorty pmc-ish RMW AK (just waiting on Ting to get back from me about some parts) and an ultimak would look great on it as well as on my RPK.

And on a related note, more Inokatsu RPKage (dont whine about that railed upper, it's a temporary measure, since an ultimak or standard siderail will replace it soon):

  18. The armour and trousers are a little duller, due to wear, and muck...

...but the jacket was like new, bright and shiny...

...and I agree, looks all the better for it.

What is that load bearing kit on the children of men outfit? I've had one thats insanely similar if not identical for years and I've never been able to work out what it was.

  19. Crumbelievable,

Yes, actually the Star hi-cap drum seems to be the best available at this time (no ugly switch, pressure activated, and people who own it say it doesn't jam at all). I ordered one yesterday, when I test it at next game, I'll PM you a small review ;)

Awesome, thanks very much. To use an rpk without a drum mag seems madness to me, aesthetically- it's either that or make some 40 rounders.

  20. LOOK AT THE ANGLE OF THAT STOCK!

Do you want GRIM! to have an aneurysm? :P

As has been said, the stock is at the right angle, I'm pretty sure.

    rpk_01.jpg

I think the only major inaccuracies on the ino rpk are the lack of a rear windage sight and the lack of those metal reinforcement bars on either side of the reciever, both of which I'm not all that bothered about tbh. If i can get hold a windage sight I might add it, because it would be nice to be able to zero the irons a bit more accurately, but at the end of the day, it is airsoft, and the ino kit already looks grade A stylin'.

Edit: on a related note, can anyone reccomend a good ak drum mag to me?

  21. Use a Scope intended for a pistol, then it will have the long eye relief. Originally the forward Scout Scope position pioneered by the late great Col. Jeff Cooper was intended for a small magnifacation scope.

Ah, thanks, I hadn't considered that a pistol sight would have to have the sufficient eye relief due to recoil/firing stance etc. That's pretty much perfect for what I need.

And morpcat and hellsangel, I have a reflex already (it's right there in the picture), and have previously been using a standard m14 mount with a 3-9x40 strike scope, but I found it was so much slower to shoulder and aim than the reflex is, and a further forward mounted scope would be.

  22. Why not just get a CA Scout? Or are you just set on modifying your current rifle?

...because I already own a marui m14 socom and just want the flashider of a standard m14, which would cost dramatically less than buying a whole new CA m14. So yeah, that's modifying- seem to remember someone effectively recreating a M1A in fareasts original socom review thread by simply swapping flashiders around.

(Especially given I'm not UKARA registered yet- moar site visits, please- and so couldn't buy a CA scout even if I wanted to).

    currentm14.jpg

Since it's a new page, brief recap:

Can anyone reccomend a good optic (ideally around 3x) that has sufficient eye relief and for use on the front mount of a Socom? I currently have a reflex on it, and while I actually love RDS's, I'd also like something similar to an ACOG for some situations, so it would be nice to change between the two depending on what field I'm playing etc.

Also, I asked a while back, but does anyone have an standard (not socom) front flashider/barrel assembly they want to sell to me? I'm planning to make a rough approximation of a a M1A scout squad- redwolf has just the barrel, but shipping etc whine whine.
