Drake, as always dude, nice work.
  2. Hmm, those are a bit of a mixed blessing. While aftermarket parts are always nice, I really don't like white trademarks as a rule, especially on firearms that would not normally have painted trades. There's somethieng very non-militarty about bright white writing all over your receiver! Now if these people would get off of their combined arses and make an M16A1 and M16A2 receiver I'd be all over that! Seriously, the Recoil shock platform is the best out there, it sucks that you're stuck with ultra modern M4's!
  3. Yes, the 14.5" barrel is correct, sorry I was mentioning it in response to the poster above that mentioned 16" barrels. If you look at the pics of the lower receiver on ehobby you can see it is Marked M16A2... and it has an A2 upper. *edit* It also has the later reinforced buttstock, though I'm not sure when that was introduced.
  4. The problem with the G&P "M653" is that it has an A2 receiver, and a 14.5" barrel, which is technically an M723. Not really a problem, but G&P seem to be a bit confused about Colt's naming conventions. All A2 based weapons have a model 7xx number, much like the A1 based systems have a 6xx number, so the presence of an A2 lower means it definately aint a 653 I still want one though! The image above actually has an A1 style upper, but I have seen 723s with both styles.
  5. SHWEL, though I don't normally like modern stuff, that is really quite beautiful. Retrained and tasteful, kudos!
  6. There was a really nice guide posted on here a few weeks ago that covers the technique: http://www.arniesairsoft.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic/195808-how-to-get-the-afghan-and-back-look/ Yeah, the rifle was definately inspired by black hawk down, though I've wanted an M727 since I saw those Discovery Channel documentries on the Navy SEALS in the late 90's ('The Silent Option', 'Direct Action' and 'In Harms Way'). It's probably not that easy to explain without pictures, I took the normal SOPMOD/SOCOM upper receiver, milled off the rail section and then mounted the carry handle half
  7. I spoke about the plans for my SOCOM months ago in this thread and finally got around to taking some pics today. M727 - TM Sopmod with M16A2 carry handle grafted onto the TM upper receiver, CAR-15 grips and M16A2 era sliding stock. She needs a first generation surefire and an Aimpoint 3000 to complete the setup. Best gun I've ever owned, hands down... pretty unique too (for now anyway, while theres little in the way of aftermarket receivers). The markings on the lower should really read either M16A2, but it's as close as I can get without getting into serious custom work.
  8. Thanks. The 727 needs an old school Surefire and an Aimpont 3000 when I can track one down, they don't turn up this side of the pond at all! On the 733 the trademarks picked up a lot of wear from the metal harwear on my Alice harness, the flash has picked it out even further and they look terrible in the pic, much better in real life thankfully.
  9. To keep the oldschool theme going on in here, a couple of my Colt Commandos: My recoil/ebb M727, lovingly hacked from a TM SOCOM. My absolute pride and joy. My G&P M733, mostly natural wear though I did help it along to start with.
  10. Yes, both will be as ridgid as eachother. The ridgidity comes from the barrel, there's no flex with or without the RIS.
  11. Nothing special, just a bog standard TM M9.
  12. Really nice M727 RIXX. Is it G&P?
  13. Slightly? I hate screw pins, but since I couldn't get any of the old pins I had to hand to fit reliably I've had no choice. Hopefully the XM/203 I plan on grabbing come payday will be fine.
  14. That is absolutely delicious. Did you take a dremel to it? I spent an hour or so with the wire wool on my G&P M733 yesterday, havn't taken it as far as that but I'm tempted now! *edit* Are those the stock G&P receiver pins? Mine were useless and kept falling out.
