I bet Air Marshall Arthur Harris of the RAF never went to Churchill and said - "Sorry Gov' can't bomb the Ruhr tonight we're out of spare parts"

Yeah but I bet some money grabbing defence contractor never charged the RAF millions of pounds for bits that are worth a fraction of that cost back in WWII.

You also have to understand that a Lancaster bomber could be knocked out at peak in 36 hours because there was nothing to them and there was a government behind the production. A Eurofighter is so much more advanced, complicated and packed full of electrics, hyds and electronics.

Exactly, it takes a good couple of years to make a Typhoon, even then the manufacturers can't build them so they actually work. If we had the cash we'd have thousands of spares all neatly lined up on shelves ready to go, our techies have all the skill needed to get jobs done fast and have airframes flying double quick, but if the government can't afford all of said spares there's not a whole lot anyone who actually wears a uniform can do about it.
