  1. Looks like this is the weekend of breakage. Plinking this weekend my niece broke part of the hammer off and something else...that I have yet to figure out what was. The weapon still shoots fine, but wear is showing up on the selector in the same place as Reppyboyo. While it hasn't broken there is a hairline crack towards the barrel right up against the selector cradle. That tells me that this is a really common problem.

She is on magazine 59 apparently. I asked her to leave it be until I can find a selector part to replace this one if it falls out. I don't think she is going to listen though since she is sick as a dog and bored. lol

Does RA Tech sell this part yet?

  2. Little bit of additional info, Redwolf claims the mag holds 50 rounds which seems odd for WE.

They are advertised for the usual 30 + 2 rounds.

Tested one of mine and sure enough 49 BB's loaded into the mag.

This potentially may be the cause of Pariah's neice's problem, constant overloading causing the spring to weaken and not push the pin stop up?

You know this might actually be the issue. The mags can load more than 30, that is for sure. I am no expert on this, but it could be. Sadly loading less BBs didn't fix it so these mags might be just screwed.

I can also report that the Ultimak rail fits without much fuss. I had to file it just a little on the bottom and shim it with a manila envelope clasp painted black to stop some side-to-side wobble. The optic mounts up to it nicely and she could care less about the rear sight now since the optic is way higher.

The gun also has one more, not as hard, session of playing under its' belt. Holding up mystifyingly well too! Only the paint is really showing the wear-and-tear bad now. Even the gun case seems to scuff it.

  3. My niece just got this and she has run it really hard the last few days. She emptied exactly 42 magazines (4 mags x 10 reloads each and 2 more plinking) worth of BBs so far. She had a blast with it playing in the rain with her male cousins and it was a big hit with them. They are notorious high price AS snobs, but this gun made them take notice. Pretty solid overall, but as adadqgg has stated, the parts that are potmetal or some of the scariest on the gun and concern me.

Right now the biggest issues are that the gun still likes to fire a lot when empty (It did well for a while, but now none of the mags ever engage the stop function) and that occasionally it will gas out (meaning release all the remaining gas...even if there is a LOT of gas left) if the magazine is rocked/bumped too hard. The magazines having plastic lug catches are also not looking great. Just 2 times playing and some pliking any the front of the magazines are pretty eaten up. WHY, OH WHY, ARE THESE PLASTIC?!? I mean seriously...this is a high wear point on real steel AKs...what makes airsoft makers think that it would be otherwise for a plastic mag? The mags have a pretty noticeable wobble. So a lot of issues with the magazines.

On top of that the rear sight will not hold its' true. I mean a bump seems to unset it. I put a dot of hot glue on there for now and will sort a better solution soon for her. She is pretty bummed by that since there is not easy way to take another optic and drop it on there for aiming.

The other thing that is bothering me is that her bolt is losing paint super rapidly on the cocking lever/handle and all over the place. It is wearing really oddly on the inside too...like it is dragging against the dust cover or something.

She likes it, but it needs some work. I fitted a black Hogue grip on there with no fuss, so RS parts work with it. She has ordered an Ultimak rail for it so we will see how that works out.

  4. For once in the history of the universe Evike and I agree on something...

to watch their video. When you first get this thing you are so happy because the gun looks/feels good, but own it for a brief time and...just watch the video as they cover the same woes that urk me about gun.
  5. You might want to hold off on getting one of the current AK74. Seems there are several AK variant GBBs coming soonish. GHK is even releasing new AKs and they are not compatible with each other from initial reports, so many of the current aftermarket improvements will be useless with them, but there is a high likelihood they will be superior to the current generation.

  6. So a local (Hawaii) airsofter who recently went to HK and came back with a bunch of toys claims that his METAL GBBR is a JG M4. It has a short barrel and an RIS. I wasn't allowed to crack it open to look at it (yeah...that is what makes me doubt it is a JG), but it did for sure have a JG magazine and bolt carrier group. Initially I wrote it off as a WE M4 CQB rolling my eyes at the whole affair. Then he cocked it. Its' bolt chamber lacked the copper assembly of the WE and it had trades (Awful ones...) on the metal body. I really want this to be true, but I cannot believe that these are not everywhere for sale if they are indeed JG made. I hope it is just some kit bodge that he threw together because if it is not then where the heck are they!?! He isn't saying where he got it and has gone all smug about the whole thing. Can anyone tell me where these are? Otherwise I am calling shenanigans and going back to my general assumption that it is some weird combination of a metal body kit from somewhere, a plastic JG M4 and a shorter inner barrel job.

  7. Magnets work to get out most CO2 cylinders, but Tippman. They are aluminium, so you would be boned with those.

I want the closed bolt short barrel, but they don't seem to have it in anywhere.

  8. Yup...it looks like the SCAR mags fix a lot of the issues folks are having. My brother has ONLY SCAR mags and his gun cycles fantastic. Did a test and it won't lock back and has a lower FPS with either the Normal WE black mags or the 5KU mags. This is just too weird. So basically the 1/2 millimeter or so of rubber on the SCAR mags helps it cycle better, but what on the SCAR mag is helping them lock back better?

  9. Torque, is it really cold to the touch? It might actually be the lubricant freezing. My mate had this issue. He likes using copious amounts of lube on his guns. His PDW was having similar cycling issues around the 5th magazine. We later learned that the lubricant was freezing. Using less lube worked for him. You might want to try using gearbox grease as opposed to spray lubricant. We found that it was much less susceptible to freezing and locking up than the spray lube.

  10. I have had similar results (please forgive the whackiness of that configuration...it was a transitional stage) to the OP with the Duracoat MagPul FDE color. In the link/picture you can see that standard Duracoat MagPul FDE is too light and needs the slightest hint of orange to match properly. Close, but no cigar.

I have Duracoated quite a few things (actually over 5 guns and a lot of random bits-n-bobs) and I have found that it doesn't so much chip off like conventional paints as "wear off". I mean it can chip, but usually that isn't the case. It fades/thins to slowly reveal what is under it. I sprayed a VFG with it and that is exactly what happened. Over the course of a year and a half it just sort of thinned out around the back until it looked terrible and I recoated it. I maybe should have stripped it first, but I just decided to spray over. It worked ok. Still holding up. I need to shoot some shots of that for reference on something that is worn in.

I have personally found that a 4ish-to-1 (I eyeball it) mixture of "Tactical Woodland Tan" and "Tactical Woodland Brown" (colors T7 and T9 respectively on the Duracoat color mating chart) makes an almost exact match to actual MagPul FDE tactical items. Some people report success mixing varying quantities of the standard paint colors "Desert Warrior Dark Earth" and "Desert Warrior Tan" (colors 70 and 89 on the DCMC), but I have yet to buy those colors.

How is the co-witnessing on that set of sites on your SAS, brother? I ask because my bro, Aaron, really wants to do something similar on a G4, but is hesitant to buy the wrong flip up sights. Did you true those up yet? Was it a pain in the six?

  12. Yeah. I plan on fixin that ejection port issue, but I gotta get some equipment back from my older brother to do it. I know about the grip. I still ain't sold about the short cocking tube and grip, but my brother REALLY wanted a G41 that could take a standard MP5 length Nitro Vo Top Rail system. That means it had to use a standard MP5 length tube. I personally think it look hotter with the longer front end, but it is a gun I made for my brother, so he gets final say.

  13. My baby:

BTW Lauer DuraCoat colors dry much lighter than they show them on the site. Their paint called "Magpul Flat Dark Earth" (which I would think would automatically match the MagPul hardware) for instance dries closer to a really dark khaki than a FDE. What you see above is AFTER I added some black and it still is lighter! You will want some black in there for almost all their colors to look right. Also for their coyote brown color you will want a touch of "Jungle Green" or "Magpul OD" in it. That should match most coyote gear perfectly.

  14. haha, im not sure if that belongs in this thread or not :P

i like it, but i think itd look alot better with a sliding stock instead of the solid.

Why doesn't it belong in this thread? It is based off of the real steel Heckler and Koch G41 compact! I worked my tail off inhaling more Bondo than a human has any right to live through in order to make this thing a reality. My brother loves it. Tax season rolls around and I usually end up making a new HK weapon. (We love HK around my house.) I don't understand why it doesn't deserve a place in this thread...

Anyhow here are some updated pictures of my own weapons:

  15. Here is a G41 "Commando" short rifle I just made for my brother. Man was it a B-I-T-C-H to build! Looks nice though I think...

I hope you enjoy the pics. Sorry for their gianormousness.

  16. I just noticed that the contents of one of my albums is purged. I didn't delete them and I was wondering if this was happening to anyone else. I rarely look at my galleries, but today my brother wanted me to upload a picture of his latest gun and the album was empty.

I don't know where or how to ask what is up with this, but that album didn't contain any rude images or anything, so I am assuming that it is some sort of database error or something. If someone can help me out that is great, but I am mostly posting to make others aware that their galleries might have been effected somehow. Take a look at yours. Have a good one!

  17. @Epyon: That is the shortest MP7 I have ever seen! I tried something similar (Well the 9mm mag part...not the snubbing. That is pure awesome!) and it didn't match me. What you have there is near orgasmic. I eagerly await updates!

  18. Epyon is, and I mean this, my airsoft crafting hero. Without him a few others I would have taking the leap to doing it myself. Much appreciation you mad mod monster!

Anyways I wanted to comment that Epyon's heavily modified SL8 is the ONLY SL/G36 variant that I have ever drooled over. That thing is perfection. All of your HK mods inspire man. Fantastic job!

PS: I love the snubbed MP7. I tried to use one like that (His are shorter than the 9mm conversion I made! Wow!), but it looked tiny in my hands, so I made my MP5-SAS AEGs. I need to get my lady friend to start using the MP7s. They would look quite sweet being used by a lass to mow down tango.
