Initial Impressions of the TM SOPMOD M4 AEG

Semi is generally more energy intensive than F/A especially on motors that lack torque. -

Re-Shim first you want about 0.1mm of endplay on the gears, clearance between the shells and the gears, clearance between the gears, and the pinion centered on the bevel. -

Hunter your shimming had to be off and/or you have a wiring problem. -
New JPC setup, did a little work in the past few months and now I can fit medium JPC!

New Airframe, still a WIP.

I've never heard of that happening ever, -

If you have that much of a variance you still have a leak somewhere (or you are using poor quality BBs), fuses shouldn't blow for no reason and the holder shouldn't get that hot, you have a massive point of resistance somewhere, bad shimming (both too tight and poor alignment), shimming isn't just about removing excessive end-play on your gear shafts it is also about properly alignment of the gears. Don't do it the old way look into bevel first shimming you'll get a better gear mesh and its a quicker process. -

Check your shimming if you are blowing fuses, but it sounds like you need more torque, I'd ditch the fuse, upgrade the wiring, and clean the trigger contacts, and if you can drop in a MOSFET, then drop in a Lonex A1 or A2 or modify your EG1000. Modern motors negate the need for Torque gearsets. -

Double check polarity, it that still fails remove the buffer tube to take tension off the spring, remove the pistol grip and use a small screw driver to move the gears and feel for problems. If you've wiped the threads in the lower you can do what another user did, drill through the lower and make dimples in the tube, then tap and screw in set screws 3 is ideal to secure it, then replace with the castle nut with a proper locking ring from laylax. How common is it for people to wreck the threads? I've had mine Fathammers apart dozens of times each and my threads are all still good. Slow -
Not really, the gearbox is fairly solid, the stock electronics and motor aren't bad either.

Yeah I find the stock DTW cylinder to be the worst bit of the gun, on mine unless I keep the nozzle well-lubed it chops like the Swedish Chef, I'll be replacing that with FCC or PTW also.

I found ditching every single part of the sliding system and upping to 16awg Teflon coat eleminated the trigger jam issues even with a stock motor. -

Yes, you will need to enlarge the hole and remove some material from the tabs, seconds with a dremel. and Yes, you need to take open the gearbox to move the wiring. -

It's been a while but the CA's recoil was negligible compared to the TM. -
Not true the Chinese PCB and Assembly guys can do a great job, but they will also make anything you want as you want it, if your design is bad they'll build it to your spec but a bad design is a bad design. Ideally if you want to replace it you need 3 parts, Selector Board, ECU, and MOSFET any design 08 and beyond is cross compatible.

I ended up finding them on RW in stock who will ship them in a reasonable amount of time. -

Did PTS stop making the PMAGs and EMAGs for Recoils? I can't find them in stock anywhere anymore. -
MOSFET burned out, due to the poor 07 design, better off converting to 08 electronics.

Spring is replaceable but AEG springs don't fit. I highly recommend that if you plan on skirmishing a *TW that you get a second cylinder, a set of Vanaras PTW Springs, and 5 1mm Delrin spacers, with that setup you can build and tune two cylinders (primary and back-up) for what ever game/event you go to.

A few notes on the G&D DTW, if you are planning to switch to a SystemA ECU and MOSFET you will need to rewire the selector board, the top and bottom wires must be flipped to get it to function 100%, but the traces on the board are VERY weak do not solder direct on the board or you will risk melting the traces right out, instead either use a small pick and swap the pins at the connector or swap and resolder the wires near the connector, be careful the insulation is very low temp and chars fairly easy. EDIT: fix iPhone induced errors.

My only dissapointment with he A&K is the use of 07 Electronics, worst design ever.

It looks like someone went Montezuma's Revenge all over a set of ACUs... But cool find.
