How would this method work on something like an AKM, where it has that laminated thing on the wood? Excuse my total lack of knowledge. xD

For me, it would be CYMA. I've owned two CYMA Ak's and one Kalash. The Kalash lasted 1 game before it went to hell. On the other hand, my old plastic AK74 has gone two years stock with an ungodly amount of rounds through it with only standard maintenance. I expect my new AKM to be the same.

IIRC, it's just a matter of removing the rod that connects to the bolt. Shouldn't negatively affect performance.

Don't bother, their civilian trades and their painted on. If anything, sand them off and krylon back over it.
