If it doesn't wobble it may be because it touches the rail, and this means it negates the free float part of the barrel, as far as I can tell.

Sometimes people just leave the "cup" there to keep of debris, for look, etc...

Apparently twist barrels don't contact the bb (as in rifled barrels) but rather create an air cushion that keep the BB centered. My best ever shooting rifle was the CA M15A2 carbine i had customized to precisely 100m/s with a twist barrel, firefly rubber, prometheus hop unit.... Very predictable and long range trajectory, with no "minimum engagement distance penalty". I don't remember if i did any measuring in the final stage of upgrading, but anyone that played with that gun said it was a tack driver. I just sold it cause Sopmods are so much more fun. My (limited experience)

Twist barrels work very well with good hopup units. I have one in my socom.

10.5" is the minimum - the laylax/prometheus one for example. Beware, the Mabul RIS II is nice, but the barrel nut won't fit on your SOPMOD unless you do rethreading. I had to do the same on mine, its a PIA

In both my URX 2 and the RIS 2 I used before, the Lipos sit on the sides of the barrels, only the deans sits in the cutout of the barrel.

The new barrel is 11.5", nice Lots of new options, just as I improvized a ~12.5" barrel from a Laylax 10.5 + extension + KAC muzzle brake. 363mm inner barrel + quasi-compact barrel = win.

Size? Do you have proper hopup?

I have cut a regular M4 Sopmod barrel - needed the front part - and now it's roughtly 11.3 inches long - the max length that you could have at constant girth... basically should be fit for a mid length URX rail. Anyone interested in it?

I'd like a regular non removable carry handle upper... but also might consider selling one of my uppers to buy a mur just for the heck of it

The new gen version 2 gearbox IS the Sopmod/socom/etc. You may see reference to the Electronic Control Unit - which is basically a Mosfet designed to replace the trigger contacts and take no extra space outside the gearbox - for the new version 2. That's because the ECU version available now is just for old style Ver.2 guns (CA, Marui, G&P M16 etc) and a variant for our beloved Sopmods is being just now developed.

Not that I'm aware of. What do you have in mind? I think I'll cut one of the 14.5" barrels I have from modded socoms, and could end up with something interesting (11.5 seems doable).

Can Magpul PTS P-mags be disassembled?

You need to stop screwing in the tube in the right position (best look for Richard's directions, he says to actually stop two full rotation before max) and use the castle nut to fix the tube in position. In other news, just got this email: (Magpul PTS) PMAG mid-cap for TM SOMOD is in the process of production at the moment. Hopefully will have update status in March.

Richard, what configuration (internals + barrel) are we talking about?
