  1. I tend to forget what a standard (ish) rifle can look like with all the accessory laden armalites about :)

On another note, magpul pts bits really are taking over aren't they. It kinda makes me regret ordering an MOE handguard set now, maybe I should have just gone the standard sticklebrick ris route after all.

  2. And cheap tax too! :)
Yup, like £50 a year in the pocket over the lude.

    that's a nice compact car :) .

What's the displacement? the front looks good!

    And are those Watanabee's?

Displacement is 1332, the alloys are a JDM brand called Black Racing from what I have been told. Sadly they were somewhat abused by the former owner not in the sense of being kerbed but by apparently never getting a clean! Even with my efforts they sadly still look pretty tatty. I plan to get them refinished at some point, and probably use them as a winter wheel, and get some nice 15's for the summer.

    Still, I like it a lot :D

  3. My new ride as I got fed up of waiting to get my insurance payout and worked enough before hand to afford it. That has now paid up at last, 5 months after the accident !

I registered it myself etc after buying direct from an import auctions place, it has been on the road for about 2 weeks now. Saved a few quid too over second hand buys already sorted out with plates etc too. It doesn't really have the on road presence of the Prelude but it shifts when need be :D

  4. I've noticed some rust in certain areas on my para, particularly under the bolt handle run and also inside the flash hider, as well on the trigger guard.

Either sand it down and respray if possible I guess, or just leave it and hope it doesn't progress too far !

I haven't had mine outside yet either, I guess they weren't 100% rust free when painted and off it went from there.

  5. Well, I have a week off work so I have finally had the time to get mine sorted.

Attached sound file of mine below.

    Mods:

    Mosfet (From Frank, aka psyphyervii)

    TM EG700

8.4v 1400 component shop mini batt

It sounds screechy on that sound file, it isn't at all in real life - probably down to the fact I had the mic right at the end of the barrel.

I'm happy enough with that :D

  6. It seems maybe more down to the fact you aren't happy some of us only paid £200 for a support weapon, and are happy with what we got for the money. Perhaps a wiff of annoyance then that a £200 249 can perform largely on par (with a bit of work) to a much more expensive one if more in terms of performance not looks ? As above, I find tinkering and tuning more fun than actual use in some respects, it certainly provides me more hours of entertainment generally :P

Having also owned a wide range of manufacturer's aegs etc, I too would say while it is rough around the edges, obviously budget gets cut somewhere to make a £200 support weapon - it still really isn't that bad despite this. I'd also dispute tagging it as a beginners gun, just because it doesn't have the big price tag, materials and weight of a CA or G&P version.

    Hey ho.

It'll certainly do the job for me and working on it to get it 100% up to where I want it to be is half the fun :D

  7. The batteries from component shop are excellent - it'd be a crime to even suggest they are anything similiar to the pos chinese one supplied !

Make sure you have the space for that though, its subc cell 9.6v which means it will be very large as airsoft batteries go.

  8. I've got the mosfet + fuse in mine now, hasn't to me at least made a noticeable difference to rof but hey ho, least the micro switch should last now.

I have a replacement motor and some shims on the way to me to make the gearbox a bit smoother and get the rof up, as I'm sticking to an 8.4v mini I just want it a little higher.

Still, it runs reasonably well currently, albeit a little screechy, after a proper regrease and reshim we shall see if it can get better.

  9. I too would be interested in finding some suitable 8mm bushings as I'm not much of a fan of bearing bushings either. I don't hold out much hope though as I don't recall ever seeing any about that'd work other than the standard 8mm bearing bushings. 8mm isn't very common :( I don't really fancy trying to make bushings with a lip fit by cracking out the dremel either !

  10. Just shows what a cheap nasty pos the included battery really is!

I delved into the gearbox on mine and I didn't think it was too bad really aside from the lack of grease, and dubious shims. I expect I will stick with my 8.4v batts and just fit the fett I have on the way and leave it at that. I might switch the motor though as it doesn't seem that great .

  11. Having had some free time today thanks to a day off, I've just gone through and done the hop unit improvement and cut the flange (tehe) of the box mag feed off, much better in both areas. I also put some foam over the wires / pcb in the box mag to give it a bit more protection in there, and tested it for the first time. I'm quite surprised as currently it actually seems to be functioning fine. I now have one of my two new batteries specially made for it on charge so I can have a proper test fire of it tommorow - fingers crossed I'm one of the lucky people with a working box mag. Then maybe I'll have a shifty round the gearbox :D

  12. Just a quick post to anyone interested in those ammo crates from Feltons as a case for the para, that I mentioned before. I had mine through this morning after I missed the first delivery earlier this week. They are pretty immaculate for ammo crates so much so I had to spend a few minutes wiping it down to remove what I can figure was oil to stop them rusting while stored. No signs of rust or nastiness on mine at all. I've just placed my order for foam to line it with and create a nice little home my my para.

The total cost for both foam and ammo case inc delivery was £40, with delivery charges accounting for £25 of that, so not bad really ! It should hopefully do the job nicely when it is done though :D

  13. ...by skipping this gun and buying a CA249. It'd cost at least as much as one to get this gun working decently.
Lol. I'd wonder what it is you'd be buying if a bit of lube, some shims and a small mod to the hop rubber would cost as much as the gun itself. Hell even if you added a CA 1200 cloth mag to that list it'd still be a lot cheaper.

If it is that bad best go buy a CA eh. The reality is most electric fed box mags don't handle high rof applications, and that is down to the design itself rather than the flaws of any particular manufacturers own attempt at it.

Another quick part worth a check from me - I found the screws on the bolt handle assembly to be quite loose. A bit of locktite and a screwdriver later and the whole thing is a lot more solid than it was out the box.

  14. No worries :)

Has anyone else had a go at removing the gearbox spring yet ? I'd certainly not say the term quick change actually applies to getting at the end of the gearbox as it took a fair few whacks to remove the necessary pin. At least however it looks like the spring will be fairly UK friendly, it definitely isn't the monster seen in the initial reviews !
