  1. Yes, that's her. I remember having a 1-1 pistol duel with her boyfriend because of a miss fire. Eventually, they became regulars at Electrowerkz and friends. Haven't seen them since that club closed. However, I still see "Tripwire" (Mark Gracey) every week as we play xbox together with others from Tier 1.

Back then Arnie's was the home of airsoft.

  2. Hey all, please help spreading the word :)

It's Christmas, so here is your present of my Operation Jawbreaker film (the full version): a 24hour Milsim event held in Copehill Down FIBUA site, near Stonehenge in England, by Tier 1 Military Simulations.

This is roleplaying at its very finest. No actors, no retakes, everything happens live once the game is on! 37 minutes of the best Military Simulation ever undertaken in the UK and all cut together with music and professionally coloured.

This is a film of how deep Military Simulation can go.

Please "like" us on Facebook and share amongst your friends.

A full review of the event with lots of images can be found here:

  3. Hey All, Just wanted to drop you a line re my new film and article about Operation Jawbreaker. This was a 24hour Milsim event held in Copehill Down FIBUA site, near Stonehenge in England, by Tier 1 Military Simulations.

    The promo is here:

    http://youtu.be/-lxutOnHYzI

    Quote from article:

I stood looking out of the café window at the sun soaked street outside. People dressed in dishdashas and pakols were setting up shops in the buildings opposite. Quite a funky bhangra beat was coming out of the speakers in the next window along and the men were all slightly bobbing in time as they worked.

    Image13_thumb.jpg

Behind me, sat at a rickety table strewn with maps and plans, were the organisers from Tier 1's Operation Jawbreaker game.

I considered the question I had just been asked,

“Well what do you think is the safe distance for a car bomb? 30 meters?”

Before I could answer a man entered the room with a tray of Afghan coffees arrayed in small cups and saucers. He piled in some sugar, enough for a large mug, and handed me one. I sipped it while looking out the window.

    Image15_thumb.jpg

“I don’t know,” I said to Pyro technician, “we want to catch as many people in the blast as possible, but we don’t want to take out the entire street or they won’t be able to practice a CASEVAC (casualty evacuation) drill.”

Ed, Tier 1 Actual, turned to one of the others in the room, “You’re currently serving in the forces,” he said to him, “what’s the real drill out there these days?”

“It’ all 10 dollar Taliban, these days,” he said and he began to explain to us what that meant.

    Image11_thumb.jpg

That’s the level of detail we go to here, I thought to myself as I looked around the room at those listening to him speak. Firstly we had the ex-commando with 8 years service then next to him was the professional roleplayer, who didn’t come out of character all weekend, then 3 airsofters with over 10 years experience each, next was the Pyro Tech and finally me; the head marshal.

We continued listening to Ed’s plans for chaos and I ordered another coffee.

All the details (the article is 4000 words long and too long to post entirely) are here:

  4. The gun is still working well. The battery is still 8v small. Frankly I don't see the need for 9 or for lipo at the moment. I took some more footage using the gun at a game (see the videos thread).

It definatley warrants a 9/10, quite an AEG.

  5. Indeed.

I mean, I'm the king of latent airsofting but geez, even if you're gonna stand around smoking tabs it doesn't hurt to move around and look in different directions etc.

Well, those 8 guys had just taken out an ambush my fire team laid by spotting us. I was the only one who got away. I hid and they ignored me. Big mistake. This was right outside their base and I used this to my advantage together with one of my favourite tactics; look like you belong there.

If you walk, calmly out past people they often mistake your side at a distance since people are looking out for people moving "suspiciously". I, of course, had my tags visible and my finger on my trigger. I was wearing multicam, and was clearly on team Delta, but this didn't matter since, how could I have got there? People see what they want to see. I moved out and around behind the 8 man team and the people at the base 50 yards away, looking straight at me, simply presumed I belonged there. I was able to walk right up to them as they considered their movements from their vantage point. I shouted, "Hey guys!" and laced em. I wasn't expecting to get all 8 in one burst without getting hit.

This is my favourite tactic of all and the source of much of the pleasure I get in airsoft: flanking. There is something so satisfying about catching the enemy unawares.

Everyone has a good story of a time this has worked for them, which shows we all remember the tactic when it works. Speaking of which, that guy behind the tree would have killed us all if he had a grenade or had taken up a prone position and put down a stream of bb's against our side, but he tried to pop us one at a time. So often, the winning tactic only occurs to you after you get hit and are out of the pressure zone.

Trip once told me a story about how he snuck up on a team defending a house by climbing the chimney, only to get 2 of them with his pistol before dying. "Why didn't you use a grenade or radio for support?" I asked. "I only thought of that afterwards", he replied.

    Happens a lot.

  6. Ok Basho maybe i was a little harsh with my first comments BUT if your going to publish a video on view to the public you must be prepared for comments!

Fair comment, and I am! (The main video "Band of Delta-Alpha" is all over the web at the moment and someone even posted it on the Army Rumour Service forums.)

In that spirit let me answer your points.

I mentioned context because the situation was a particular one. My side was flanked by this lone guy and he was taking fire from about 15 people and (from our point of view) being a nob by hiding behind a tree and, well, basically blind firing us all and claiming he wasn't being hit. Having been a marshal, I know that there is no way we could tell for sure. After a minute of this nonsense I thought, well damn this! and charged him. I held down my trigger as I charged to pin him behind the tree and then used my high speed combined with coming from the blind side of the tree to catch him unawares. When I saw him I targeted his webbing and gave him a burst. You can see in the footage that most of the BB's hit him on the back and only when he ducks his head down does he catch a few on his *albatross*. I am sure they hurt a little, but hey this isn't paint ball. I was then immediately shot by his friend hiding behind the bank at his feet. As I walked back, the marshal's called me over and gave the medal.

    That's the context.

I am someone very serious about safety in airsoft. I was a marshal at Electrowerkz before it closed and many people on here will remember my stance on overkill etc. I also made a post a few years back calling for fullface to be mandatory and had to fight off a *suitcase* ton of abuse to defend this. So, I do care.

I only use mid caps and low caps. That was a P-Mag in the PTS. 120 rounds.

Suppression is a valid tactic even in real steel.

The guy was not taking single shots. There are times, we have all had them, when you are faced with a choice: Fight on and take a burst. Or fake a hit and walk as the situation is too high octane. This guy, hats off to him, fought at least 15 guys on his own for 2 minutes. That's someone taking it to the max. Then to start being a little teflon, well, that's balls deep. You are always going to get "properly shot" when the OpFor do finally get you!

There was 8 guys in the section of the video where I snuck up behind them. The first video shows it in even slower motion with added sound effects.

I like single shot, its much more my style. I have never owned a box mag! My team are all strict milsim these days, so its single shots all round for me. I did find that at the GZ Weekender, people were simply not taking them.

If you think that was a lacing, you should have seen some of the stuff I had to deal with at Electro. We had one guy with a gun that shot 42bb's a second!

    Anyway, thanks for your comments!

  7. The charge.. well done

hosing people at point blank range OUT OF ORDER!

Well, the marshalls (two of them) standing right next to this guy decided that not only was this event OK by them, but that it deserved a medal. So, I reiterate in a different way: It is not your place to rant at me for anything. And anyway, the footage looks much worse than it was and also does not show context. Very important context.

You were right about something though, the PTS does have an awesome rate of fire! :P

  8. PART TWO!

    magpul-p2.jpg

NOTE: This review is split into two parts. This is part two; the review of the gun out in play and my commentary on its real world performance.

The crew from Aliens review the Magpul PTS AEG in the field

    "Game over man, game over!"

    a_010Marines_thumb.jpg

Gorman: Morning, Marines. I'm sorry we didn't have time to brief you people before we left Gateway, but...

    Hudson: Sir?

    Gorman: What is it, Hicks?

    Hudson: Hudson, sir.

    [points]

    Hudson: He's Hicks.

Gorman: Basho, please tell us about the new equipment...

Basho: “Ok men here it comes, most people don’t review guns in two parts. No, they instead setup a target, perhaps in their home, shoot a few times at it and give you the benefit of that wisdom.

    What there is of it.

I too have written ones like this, but then I stopped. When I reviewed the TM Desert Eagle Hard Kick I noted its lack of long range accuracy, its mighty jump in the hand that ruined your second shot aim, the lacklustre gas performance in the mags. Then I went out and played with it and realised that I had forgotten the most important piece of information; the DE scares people. I have actually had people cower when I pull it out.

    That is priceless information!”

    a_014BillPaxton_thumb.jpg

Hudson: “So, is this gonna be a standup fight, sir, or another newb’hunt?”

Gorman: “All we know is that there's still no contact with the colony, and that Team Beans may be involved.”

Frost: “Excuse me sir, Beans? What?”

    Gorman: “Team Beans.”

    Hicks: “It's a newb’hunt.”

Basho: “So, this review is another gun, perhaps a real winner, and certainly flavour of the month, tested out where it belongs: in the field. Out in the mud and leaves where I can tell its hidden abilities.

The Ground Zero Weekender is not like many other airsoft games. Not only is it larger, now sporting over 1200 players, but its size actually has a strange effect on those who attend. They bring all their new toys to play with. People make an effort for Ground Zero, an effort they not often make for a muck about down any old woods. I saw people dressed as characters from Intel Adverts, whole teams in Vietnam load outs and more multicam clad warriors than at the last Delta Force BBQ.

For the Magpul PTS to score highly on the “Bling’ometer”, it would have to be very special indeed.”

    a_019JenetteGoldsteinTri_thumb.jpg

Vasquez: “Look, man. I only need to know one thing: where they are.”

    Drake: “Go, Vasquez. Kick *albatross*.”

    Vasquez: “Anytime, anywhere, man!”

Basho: “I sure hope you are right”

[Gorman scowls then, thanking Ripley with a nod, takes over the pred-op briefing.]

Gorman: “All right, we have Basho’s first report on the basic weapon on file. I suggest that you all read it. An addendum follows.”

    Notes:

    1. The first thing that hits you when you are trying to sling the Magpul PTS is that it is not heavy. Even with a battery and loaded P-Mag in, it still is lighter than many AEG’s. This is due to mainly to the size of the gun, the skeletonised stock and the light but strong plastic in the hand guards. I slung it to a Chalker “Tactical Bra” sling that hangs the gun directly on the bodies centre line. It was short enough that when I knelt it did not strike the mud, but of course if you are tiny then this may still happen to you.

    2. I ran the PTS on both P-Mags and standard King-Arms mid caps. I personally had no problems at all with mags or feeding. The P-Mags do fit tightly in the well and can be a little more of a pain to change quickly, but with practice I was quick enough to fight strong.

    3. I dragged the gun through mud, in puddles, in leaves. I crashed to the ground, dived and rolled, all sorts of stuff. The gun took it all. It is a tough little customer.

    4. It drew only a few envious looks. To quote the late, great, Douglas Adams: The designer of the gun had clearly not been instructed to beat about the bush. "Make it evil," he'd been told. "Make it totally clear that this gun has a right end and a wrong end. Make it totally clear to anyone standing at the wrong end that things are going badly for them. This is not a gun for hanging over the fireplace or sticking in the umbrella stand, it is a gun for going out and making people miserable with."

[Deep in the woods, the Delta Alpha team get ready for battle]

    a_001AlMatthews_thumb.jpg

Lex: All right, sweethearts, you're a team and there's nothin' to worry about. We come here, and we gonna conquer, and we gonna kick some, is that understood? That's what we gonna do, sweethearts, we are going to go and get some. All right, people, on the ready line! Are ya lean?

    DAs: Yea!

    Lex: Are ya mean?

    DAs: Yea!

    Lex: WHAT ARE YOU?

    DAs: Lean and mean!

Lex: WHAT ARE YOU? Get on the ready line, DA’s, get some today! Get on the ready line! Move it out! Move it out, goddammit! Get hot! One, two, three, four! Get out, get out, get out! Move it out, move it out, move it out! Move it out, move it out, move it out! One, two, three, four, five, six, seven! Aaarrrrr, absolutely badassess! Let's pack 'em in! Get in there!

    das_thumb.jpg

[in battle the command-team watch over the personal camera and see a guns-eye view of the play]

Hudson: “There's Beans all over the place! They’re coming out the f*cking walls man!”

Basho: “Now I could tell you about my play with this gun. I could wax lyrical about it and even perhaps manage to put something across about how it plays. But this cannot compare with seeing it for yourself yourself. So, I attached a camera to the weapon and recorded its play in the field. I have two files for you.”

As you can see from the footage, this is a great AEG and a definite buy if you get a chance. Let’s ask one last character from the film, what he thinks:

    "It's all about the LR"

Mine is a custom Prime LR kit, which used to run a systema high speed and hexlical gears. It has just had our team engineer rebuild it with new inners and I am awaiting it for GZ. It is by far the best gun I have ever used. Simply CQB perfection in design. (This is my old 2006 lvl 3 CQB loadout for when playing against a hot gun)

  10. I haven’t been able to skirmish this yet, so I could only test the quality of the lens by shooting it. My WA Hardballer shoots at 320fps and didn’t make a single mark. At GZ, I will have our sniper shoot it at 500fps and let you know!

The internet claims they will pass 1.2J ( Approx. 394 FPS ) with 6mm 0.25g BB. I play up to 500fps. If they break I will turn them into mesh and retest

    Result.

So, far they are very nice indeed and I give them 9/10.

  11. The Fan System.

Here is the description of the system on the box.

    IMG_0064_thumb.jpg

The batteries the system uses is 2 X AAA and they clip in under the frame, which is released by passing through some clips inside by the eyebrow.

    IMG_0066_thumb.jpg IMG_0070_thumb.jpg

The fan is the simple mini style often seen inside computers and harddrive caddies. They are notoriously loud as we shall see. The control for the fan is in two parts. Firstly, there is a sliding switch that starts the fan on a low setting. Then if you press the button, presumably if the goggles have misted up, the fan really kicks in and a noticeable breeze flows over your face all the way down to the mouth areas.

    IMG_0072_thumb.jpg

    IMG_0073_thumb.jpg

Here it is in action, you can tell it is quite loud:

    (VIDEO ON MY SITE ONLY)

How do they works with helmet and coms?

I use a Bowman copy, here is the goggle fitting over the system.

    IMG_0078_thumb.jpg IMG_0080_thumb.jpg

As you can see there is no issues with this one and my microphone will either fit internally or externally. With a good fit, the microphone is held off the mouth fine. I did not notice an seal being lifted by the combination.

    Let’s have a look with a helmet.

    IMG_0082_thumb.jpg IMG_0084_thumb.jpg IMG_0086_thumb.jpg

    Fits a treat.

    In the field.

  12. Welcome, this is a review of the new Tokyo Marui Full Face Pro Goggles with built in fan.

After coming home from my travels I accessed my secure shipping container and got out all my airsoft gear. GZ is coming and I wanted to do a ops check and full clean so I would be ready. My old, fantastic, HFC mesh mask had seen better days. After considering the risk of using rusty mesh, I benched the mask and started hunting around for another solution. There was something else too. My team now play 24h milsim games. As I was going to join them, I needed a face rig that would enable me to eat and sleep in the field, but not be a compromise on safety.

    Enter the TM Pro Goggles.

    (VIDEO ON MY SITE)

    image_thumb.png

Tokyo Marui is one of the “old school” of airsoft companies, launching the AEG in 1992. They haven’t really been known for combat gear, instead focussing on all sorts of guns pistols and rifles.

    Tmlogo.jpg

In recent years their quality level and innovations have put them back in the forefront of airsoft. These goggles are a new move, and probably the start of a range.

I first found them on this YouTube:

I bought my pair from Zero One airsoft and went for the black colour because it goes with every loadout. They are also available in green and tan.

Lets have a look at them then!

    IMG_0065_thumb.jpg

In the box you get the goggles and face mask, instructions in Japanese, wipe clothe and two sticky-back cheek pads. It attaches using a wide strap with dual adjusters. In the middle is a large and secure clip. This clip is very secure and sits flush, however I suspect those with pony tails may have issue with it.

    IMG_0090_thumb.jpg

Inside the mask is a plastic grill to allow air in and out of the lower part. The material is a soft flexible rubber similar to a Sansei mask. The rubber holding the goggles to the face is hard and thick, not the soft ###### we mostly see. I can feel that it would form a seal on the skin when its get hot or wet. The goggle sidings have enough space to allow the use of glasses underneath and the lens is far enough off the face to fit them in the space. This, of course, reduces the vision a little, but nothing too bad and far better than many masks.

    IMG_0069_thumb.jpg IMG_0071_thumb.jpg

The side of the mask has slits cut into it to allow air passing in and out. This is part of the fan system.
