  1. The MP7 nozzle issues seem to be a limited problem and one that was caused by a manufacturing defect rather than a design flaw, Demoncase wrote a long post what about probably caused it during the injection moulding process in the MP7 review thread and from what I know about injection moulding it seemed spot on.

With the MP7 nozzles what we don't know is if TM produced the mould and parts themselves or if it was subcontracted out, if it was subbed out (which is entirely possible) then it might be the fault of the manufacturer of the mould, although TM are still responsible for tracking down the issue and resolving it, which iirc they did try to do. A potentially defective nozzle is a minor fault in the grand scheme of airsoft though, replacements soon came out and while having to replace a part soon after purchase isn't ideal it is at least an easy part to fit.

  2. Tm quality !!!

    Not any more .

It's one gun and a varient of it with what does seem to be a design flaw, not exactly worth slamming the entire TM range over, they are still doing better than most other manufacturers on the new product design and overall reliability front.

These M870s seem to have the most complex internal system of any of their modern releases so it's not too suprising it's got issues, earlier comments about it being better if it just had 3 shot or 6 shot mode and no selector seem to have merit though, I think keeping it simpler would have been better.

  3. USD$279 to 279 GBP?! ridiculous!

Then again i understand the mark up price, its all business. Just that compared to the local Hong Kong price (HK$1,980 / US$255) it seems excessive, but then again I'll probably be ###### off if i knew the local Japanese price, so i guess ignorance is bliss.

£279 does include 20% VAT though, 16.66% of the retail price goes straight to revenue and customs and retailers will have to pay some duty on importing them.

Quite often when I look at the difference in price between buying something from HK and the same thing from a UK shop the only difference in price is the VAT, given that I mainly buy for R&D purposes these days I just buy from UK shops reclaim the VAT and not have to worry about having to pay it on import, then reclaiming it back, paying duty to the EU and a clearing fee to the courier ontop.

  4. Compromise - what about one of those laser boresighters that has the firing pin activation switch? Same size and shape as a 'real' shell, and the firing cap will be in the same place.

Snap caps would be a safer option too I'd have thought.

  5. It's actually called Fibre Reinforced Nylon (FRP), to be correct, probably glass fibre reinforced as it's the most common, cheap and what H&k use themselves.

I remain unconvinced, not saying you're wrong though.  I have gen 2 and 3 XM8s, and they both feel like they're made of the same stuff, and they both flex ans creak in the same ways.

Being made from fibre reinforced nylon doesn't mean it won't flex and creak, it's not a wonder material, if the design allows it to flex then it'll flex to some extent whether it's made from ABS or FRP.

  6. What I'm saying is, of all the guns to stick a (subjectively) ugly, unrealistic and unnecessary air hose on, the TM M870 is probably the last you'd do it to.

But at the same time it's probably the first you'd do it to, on the M870 the shells are completely unconnected to the gas tank so it's quite practical, on GIM GBBrs which would really benefit from external HPA/Co2 you'd have to be disconnecting the hose from the mag for each reload.

  7. I've been trying to sell on my MMC SA80 for some time now. But Arnies isn't the place for classics anymore, and the old websites for classics seem to have gone.

To be honest the UK doesn't really seem to be the place for classics anymore, I ended up letting my MGC M12s go for something like £25, iirc after postage, PayPal fees etc I was left with £15 :( Granted it wasn't working properly but I wouldn't expect a good price for them anymore.

  8. I tried to look up a review on one of these since common sense says you'd want to screw it in all the way until there's no movement but backing off on it would mean its not completely secure...

You should only need to tighten the valve until you can feel the o-rings are starting to compress against the magazine body itself, then another 1/8 to 1/4 of a turn, that's how I always do them.

I think they'll be fine, you need like 1/2 a turn for the full range of adjustment and on all of my KWA and TM mags the output valves have never been particularly tight and they're never an issue when it comes to sealing.

This, I've found on TM mags you can back the valve off by 3/4 of a full turn before it starts leaking with a stock valve, the threads on the valve are such a fine pitch that 1/2 a turn actually equates to very little movement.

  9. Looks like an Lees Precision Engineering mount.

Yep, it's definately one of mine :)

VFC do a copy of it too.

Nope, VFC do a copy of the Surefire mount, mine is an original design I did about 5 or 6 years ago (single piece design machined from a block of aluminium, Surefire is a three piece design with only the middle machined).

  10. Need more HERA GCC kits! Finally said bye bye to the boring and extremely basic charging handle on mine and made a new shorter/lower profile one, just need to send it for anodising then find some money to buy more mags :D

  11. I've done a little bit of testing in this regard with upgraded Marui guns for customers who elected to keep the stock pistonheads, I found a fairly consistent 10FPS increase every time I vented the pistonhead, keeping all other components the same and just modifying the stock Marui pistonhead. In one case, a rather antiquated Marui G36 which had seen a couple hundred thousand rounds, venting the pistonhead saw the FPS jump by 40, which I ascribe to the worn o-ring.

As an aside, I emailed LPE about potentially modding a barrel for me and you guys never got back to me :P

Interesting, just the sort of info I was looking for although I'm not sure what I'm more suprised by, opening a gearbox just to vent a piston head or the 40fps jump! It certainly sounds more like the vents actually work to prolong an airseal/lifespan of an o-ring but probably don't do much for well fitting brand new ones.

How long ago did you email me? If it was a while ago then I may have just missed it  I don't recall any emails about modifiying barrels, if it was recently then you should have had a reply by now. Also there are no 'guys', it's just me that runs LPE :P

It's my Infos the same as all gun techs, you just draw conclusions over time based on what ever results you see when working on guns. There's zero science or proof of anything Airsoft all we can do is change something and test and even then that could be skewed by that particular gun.

Like if I fit an aftermarket piston head on a poor performing tm it's going to be a large increase. So skewed results. So it seems nigh on impossible to really catalog single improvements, though if I was making piston heads I defiantly test with just that one part on a stock tm.

Indeed, lack of proof was always my issue with the vent thoery, I think virtually all claims I've seen before have been from people adding vented piston heads, which generally means adding bearings to the piston as well if nothing else which could have made up all the gains, it's nice to hear from people who've tested single changes with parts like that though.

I actually have a stock ICS M4 bought specifically for when I was testing my original airbrake prototypes, the split gearbox saves so much time for testing parts like that although no good for you testing SOPMOD specific springs, not much good if I add SOPMOD piston heads to my range either :(

  12. I put another post further down explaining vented piston heads and how they work, yes I have tried it which is why I suggested it, only about 50 times haha.

If you don't think there's enough force to at least slightly expand the o ring enough to at least form a marginally better seal , cut a hole in the front of a gearbox pop your finger in, pull the trigger and prove me wrong.

Yes I know the theory behind them, but I'm not convinced that in practice it works and I've never seen any actual evidence to say it does, in the 50 times you've done it have you not changed anything else in the gearbox at all other than adding the venting? If you have then I'd not consider it proper evidence that venting works, that's the problem, anyone who fits vented piston heads has usually changed something else at the same time, even if it's just adding bearings so you can't attribute any fps gain directly to the vents.

I know there is a lot of force pushing against the o-ring, but if it already seals perfectly with nothing more than a tiny bit of force being applied by hand I doubt any additional force is going to improve the fps, the one thing it will do is improve the seal between the o-ring and the piston head itself, I suppose if the o-ring has less than optimal dimensions then it might help the airseal to a point, but if the o-ring doesn't seal perfectly when doing the compression test I just bin it anyway, I'm not into trying to trying to expand worn o-rings or soak them in oil, I always think that's just fitting an o-ring on borrowed time and not worth it.

This is one of these theories I'd like to test for myself properly, and since I'm probably going to be doing production runs of new piston heads soon and doing them entirely 'in house' this time I may keep a few unvented so I can do a proper comparison of identical setups with the only difference being vents.

  13. Thats all normal, the issue is your piston head, its tm and non vented which means your o ring will not widen when the piston is released.  Its soley reliant on the o ring being wide enough in the first place.

Have you actually tested a stock TM piston head against the same piston head with vent holes added to it to see if there is any difference in the fps? The theory that the vents push the o-ring out is an old an established one, but one I also think is ######.

Doing the 'compression test' any piston head with a good o-ring should seal immediately without any real speed or force applied, I know for sure my own airbrake piston heads do and all other brands I've tried over the years, there has never been any real room for forward air pressure to actually improve the seal.

From what I recall of stock TM piston heads the reason they seal well is the o-ring groove is moulded so that it's activly pushing the o-ring against the cylinder, unlike on aftermarket vented ones where the o-ring has space on the inside and room to shift forward and backwards, the vents are actually there to allow air to flow back into the cylinder more efficiently.

  14. Pictures with user names don't always stop the scamming. Bought an AEG off Z-in with a fairly decent picture.

What it didn't show (due to the angle) was that the outer barrel (and thus inner) was bent.

I think you're missing the point of requiring a photo with the user name of the seller shown in it, the idea behind it is that it broadly proves that the seller actually has what they are offering for sale and haven't simply lifted photos from a search engine or another forum, like everything it has it's flaws but it can also help prevent one type of scamming.

In your case the only way to have avoided buying a gun that would appear fine in a photo but is actually damaged would be to inspect it in person before handing over any money, that is just one of the risks of distance buying.

One option that kinda tempts is to trial an insecure sales area on here - it'd be a completely separate section. That way everyone could see the new sellers/buyers and treat it for what it was.

I think if we went down that route it'd be easier to just open up the existing sales section again, existing members (understandably) would post in the trial section as well as the existing ones in order to reach a larger audience which imo would make the 100 post rule redundant by default.

I do wonder if perhaps a lower post count requirement might be a better option, some people may see 100 posts as too much but something lower like 50 to be more realistic, the spammers who've been caught out in the past and turned out to be scamming people on other forums have all been spotted within 50 posts from what I recall anyway.

If you're still looking for a hurdle, one hurdle might be to simply add an application process and restriction of RIFs until they've got their first bit of feedback. So, the user reads the FAQ on how to access the classifieds, and PMs a sales moderator with maybe proof of site membership, a UKARA reg number, proof of age (If that's not too authoritarian!) whatever. The user's then restricted from the RIF section until they buy/sell something else, such as an accessory, gear etc.

Whatever happens, what I think needs to happen is for the classifieds to become VISIBLE much like the entire forum now - If you try to access the forum without an account, there's the news section and the FAQ which addresses how you can access the rest of the forum.

VCRA Restricted sales aren't the issue in question, although they form part of it, the issue raised by Skarclaw is the restricted access to all of the sales sections putting new members off staying here.

I think it's important to remember that this is an international forum, with a UK, international and US sales section, imho any sort of verification system should be fair and to me that means the same for all memebers regardless of what country they are in.

There is the issue of the work involved in checking site/ukara memberships as you say, also, fyi, no moderator here volunteered, the rule is if you ask or volunteer to be one you can't be one ;) The great thing about the current system is that it requires no work from moderators other than to suspend/ban those who try to spam their way to 100 posts, it's entirely automatic.

I do agree that the sales section needs to become visable to some extent though, ideally showing that there is one but the only topics within the sections being viewable explaining the 100 post rule and other relevent rules, if it's possible to set the permissions like that.

I agree with dropping the 100 post block.

For a start, do you all honestly believe there is some secret barrier to being a member of Armies as well as Zero In?!? I'd imagine that 80% of Armies UK members also frequent Zero In....I think the thing that keeps Armies "honest" is the fact that it is an international site, unlike Z-in.

Its not just the sales section of Armies that's dead, everything here just seems stale compared to back in the day.....and let's not even mention the void that is GasGunsinfo.....

Zero In, while it has many hang ups, is a lively and vibrant place....so they must be doing something right!! Armies can dwell on this elitist attitude that it's somehow a "better" place to be, but.....and maybe I'm the only one that thinks it, this forum is running the risk of becoming irrelevant.

Just remember, those young "scrotes" and underage nuisances are the future of the hobby....whether we like it or not, Armies needs to attract those kids and help mature them within the hobby rather than take an aloof down the nose stance and stagnate.

Who said anything about 'young scrotes'? I don't think anyone wants to discourage younger members from joining this forum, however most do seem to be in favour of a system that can prevent some types of scamming, although it does seem to push a lot of people to a certain forum that seems to have a reputation for scamming due to the higher chance of selling an item.

In that respect the 100 post rule seems a bit odd as it forces a lot of the supporters of it to use forums without the system.

I think it's very easy to blame the 100 post count rule for the lower activity on these forums as a whole, but I don't think it's as big a factor as some may think, a lot of forums seem quieter than the used to be before the global recession which don't have the same rule.

Overall I think all forums are less relevant anyway, most sites, retailers and manufacturers will just use facebook and similar sites to advertise and communicate with their customers as it puts all the work into one, or a smaller number of places.

You might say Zero In is doing something right that Arnies isn't, but what people can do here is actually mention any retailer they like which enables a lot of decent, informative information to be exchanged and publically recorded which would get deleted there, I value that more than universal access to a sales section personally.

  15. I think keep it as it is, for now at least, there have been times where people have drawn attention to themselves by trying to spam to 100 posts and got themselves suspended/banned who've later turned out to have scammed people on other forums. It's not a perfect system and will put some people off staying here but realistically it's the only way Arnies can offer any real form of protection from scammers.

One thing I did suggest to Marlowe was to lower the minimum post count to say, 50, but then require every sales thread to have a photo of the items for sale with the photo including a piece of paper with the user name of the seller written on it.

The issue with that system would be enforcement, the current post count system is entirely automatic so doesn't take up mods time or require members to do anything, to require a photo in the post in the correct format would mean members would need to report any sales topics which don't comply so the moderators don't miss them.

As Marlowe would say though, this is a forum with a sales area added on for those who contribute, not a sales website with a forum attatched.

  16. What's wrong with that? If they didn't, the design would never have reached its status now. Stop being so melodramatic.

Indeed, and at least Glock didn't design it originally, if they had they'd be a nightmare to get hold of in the US with any type of trademarks, plus if Steyr wanted to sell the TMP design then what's the issue with B&T buying it and changing the name? Steyr probably think they're great for doing it.

I just got a KWA MP9 delivered today, lovely gun but I forgot just how chunky it is! Now to tackle the pesky roll pins and strip the thing down <_<

  17. Does the Tanio Koba USP .40 SD really count as a classic? I know it's not particually new but they're no older than TM Sig P226s and you can still buy magazines for them, I already have 7 magazines and 3 of the pistols, a spare trigger, the TK suppressor and my own upgrade piston heads for them so I don't need any more myself ;)

  18. Funny, I was going to ask a similar question to this too!

Is there a way of reading archived threads, not necessarily posting in them (for me, anyway)?

Can you not read archived threads at all? I'd always assumed everyone could but I guess it might just be a moderator only thing.

It is possible to un-archive threads but it has to be done manually by Arnie or Marlowe for each one which isn't idea, but it may be possible to get some un-archived.

  19. And what gives if it's a "tightbore" or not? What's important is how it's built.

You are correct there, quality is more important than the bore itself but that's not the point I was making. It's quite common for someone to take a set of digital verniers to their barrel, find they read something like 6.04mm and immediately conclude that the brand in question fits tightbores as standard when it isn't the case due to them reading around 0.03mm/0.04mm under the actual bore size, which happens to be the difference between what we'd consider a 'standard bore' and a 'tight bore' barrel.

I've actually seen a manufacturer/distributer use digital verniers in a promotional photo a few years back showing 6.03mm on the screen, if that's how they actually determined the bore of the barrel then it's a false description, even if the quality of the barrel was good.

This is what Samoon states the inner barrel is on the stock inner barrel.

    http://gyazo.com/1bcf42eeed32b51dc4c6edeaa9a6f588

Fair enough, I'll trust that until the day I can get my hands on a G5 for myself :)

  20. Keep in mind, stock barrel is 6.03 already.

    Got a source for that?

Call me sceptical but none of the retailers or even Samoon seem to be stating it has a 6.03mm as standard and over the last few years most claims of stock barrels being tightbores seem to have been based on measuring them with inaccurate equipment for such small bores. It'd be nice if it had one as standard but history tells me to doubt a lot of these claims.

  21. 134a is IIRC banned worldwide now, as it contains CFCs. 144a is the substitute.

R-134a isn't a CFC, it was the replacement for R-12 which was a CFC. 144a is just a name Abbey Supply have given to a R-134a alternative/replacement for sale in Europe to make it more recognisable to airsofters as a low pressure gas, what the actual name of the gas is I don't know.

That said R-134a is at the very least being phased out worldwide, even if it's not banned the drop of industries using it will cause it to become uneconomical to produce and even Japanese airsoft manufacturers will have to start using one of the replacements.

On another note, everyone is talking about deformed tanks but has anyone yet had one leak or taken the end plate off one to see what the construction is like inside? It would be interesting to see how thick the walls of the tank actually are compared to a regular gas magazine with shorter sides that would be less prone to deforming.
