  1. How was the blank-firing integrated into the scenario? Both in terms of safety and gameplay.

Blank firing guns are only used by staff at our events, all of whom are experienced in their safe-handling and use through years of blank fire reenactment experience - blanks are never fired directly at other players from closer than 20m, and all ammunition is rigorously inspected and tested beforehand.

From a gameplay perspective - blank guns can kill players. If you're not behind solid cover and you see a muzzle flash in your direction, you are considered killed. Blanks are for immersion first however, the added effect of forcing airsofters to be conscious of not standing out in the open when they believe themselves to be outside of AEG range is also nice.

  2. I figured I'd start one catch-all megathread since we've got a ton of cool-*albatross* media from this event, including several videos. From our own description of the event:

2015 - Ukraine PRO-WEST CANDIDATE OLEKSANDR YEVDOKIMOV IS ELECTED AS UKRAINIAN PRESIDENT AND PUSHES FOR FULL NATO MEMBERSHIP FOR UKRAINE. RUSSIA VIEWS NATO EXPANSION INTO FORMER TERRITORIES AS THREAT TO IT'S NATIONAL SECURITY, VLADIMIR PUTIN THREATENS ANNEXATION OF EASTERN UKRAINE AND THE CRIMEA IF NATO BEGINS MAP (FORMAL NATO ADMISSION) PROCESS WITH UKRAINE. TALKS BREAK DOWN. RUSSIA MOVES FORCES INTO EASTERN UKRAINE AND THE CRIMEA TO BLOCK FURTHER NATO EXPANSION INTO FORMER SOVIET TERRITORIES. NATO RESPONDS BY SENDING IN FORCES TO EXPEL THE RUSSIANS FROM UKRAINE.

THE REGIMENT IS PROUD TO BRING YOU OPERATION: DAVAI HARD - TWO DAYS OF HARDCORE, STORY-DRIVEN SIMULATED COMBAT BETWEEN A JOINT TASK FORCE WHEREIN PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT TO BE MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY TESTED BY BOTH INTENSE INSTRUCTIONAL CLASSES AND IN-GAME SCENARIOS THROUGHOUT THE DURATION OF THE WEEKEND.

And physically test people we did! Our entire concept behind this game was demonstrating that it is entirely feasible to put on a two day, hardcore ACTUAL Milsim event, from rank structure to medic rules to sleeping in the field, for nowhere NEAR the going rate most players are willing to shell out for what essentially boils down to watered-down speedsoft centered around finding a briefcase. Anyway, here are some photos:

And some neat ones from the RUSFOR side, who all had disposable film cameras for the duration of the weekend:

  3. It also sucks for the people lighting you up and not counting cause you have a giant shield

That's the point? It's really not hard to die even with carrying that thing. My feet are generally exposed while moving, and our flanks are wide open in the stack. We're using this for scenario games, not to be THE BEST BB WARS TEAM EVER or anything dumb like that. We could give a *fruitcage* less about winning.

  4. assault shields? :(... oh man. I have such bad experience with those... :(

It's an accurate replica of the Russian FORT VANT-VM shield that sees a ton of modern use with Russian Federal Security Forces. Our replica weighs close to 35lbs, so while it has the potential to be abused, there is at least a huge disadvantage to carrying it.
