  1. Little follow up. Been having a lot of fun with my AK. The 105 with the 1 joule bolt installed does a good 330 in room temps, perfect for the UK. Decent range and accuracy for the stock rubber, cannot really complain here. Unfortunately in my skirmish today the hop unit broke, somehow the top of the unit snapped right off. The hop rubber tore to boot. Presuming a mis-feed caused that to happen, possibly just the bolt slamming against it. Any of the metal hop chambers worth bothering with or should I stuck to the stock plastic ones?
  2. So, after all that how does it fire? Very well in fact. The recoil is fairly strong and sharp, which was nice considering the slightly higher weight of what I am used to. It is VERY loud and has quite the unique clack to it. Auto fire is especially pleasing to use. However, so far the dry fire mech is only semi-reliable. Although it did work eventually occasionally you could still get 2-3 dry fire shots off before the mech worked and stopped you pulling the trigger. It did however appear to get better with more use, might just need a little break in or some more lube. Unlike its competitor,
  3. So here comes the slightly more informative part of this threat. The internals seems to continue the trend of looking quite high quality. If I remember correctly /SOME/ of the trigger parts are steel, I cant remember which however. The finish on the bolt is quite nice, in comparison to its competitor. The trigger system is actually quite simple but works very well. As of the 2012 version it also has a system to stop the gun firing when the mag is empty, little more on this later. The hop uses the newer GHK grey rubber which is quite good for accuracy and range as G5 users can probably attest
  4. Its that time of year again, I get a new rifle and slap up a quick first impressions/review. So onwards to the...err stuff. I bought the rifle from Samoon, whom happened to be the cheapest overall and did a great job getting the rifle and other bits to me. It comes well packaged in layers of cardboard, its unlikely to receive damage in transit I would think. Box contains the rifle itself and mag (or mags), speed loader, manual, a small bottle of silicone oil and a spare hop chamber. The manual is pretty basic but does the job, oddly only contains the part numbers for the AKS-74U. Spare hop ch
  5. Coming soonish, First Impressions of the 2013 GHK AK-105...

I've been looking at that very AK, can't decide between that or an AKM (I do like a bit of wood on a rifle).

I was struggling between a AKS-74U and the 105. Went with the 105 simply because I owned the WE 74U in the past. Change is good.

  6. Dont think anyone has tried that. Generally the working solution is steel parts.
  7. Anyone own a GHK AKS-74U? I cant seem to find any user reports on them.

  8. Ive never seen any G5 with the metal piece there. o_0
  9. Keep forgetting to post this, standard receiver right, reinforced left: Also uses a different pin for the stock, seems to be smaller on the lower portion and needs a c-clip to be held in.
  10. Stock is standard AEG. Only difference of the GHK bucking to a normal one was the hop mound is a square. Nothing special. The Maple Leaf is pretty good, takes a while to break in to get consistent results though. Range is excellent and accuracy to boot. A worthwhile upgrade for me.
  11. Where are you hearing such rubbish? The internals are metal. I've had my G5 over 6 months with no issues.
  12. So, he was worried about a problem which could affect ALL GBBR's? Just keep it properly lubed and you have nothing to be concerned about.
  13. Krydel, I know. I have no problem with being wrong. Back to accuracy, I put a Maple Leaf (60 degree) rubber and nub in my G5 today. Ive run out of light to do any decent testing but initial impressions are very good. Laser line accuracy with 0.3's to about 30 meters (roughly), ran out of light adjust my hop for better range. Will give it another go tomorrow if I have the time.
  14. I stand corrected, could of sworn I read it was 6.03 on Samoons Facebook page but hey ho. To be fair the accuracy of the G5 isnt bad by any means, I just think there is room for improvement which can be achieved through a bucking change.
  15. Keep in mind, stock barrel is 6.03 already.
  16. Ive got the reinforced body, will post a pic later if I remember. Not changed the rubber yet but since when was there an overhopping problem? A couple of friends use .25's with their G5's and have no issues. The depot are obviously a bunch of pussies.
  17. Already have it. Carbine length at room temperature (about 19c) puts out 330fps. At my last skirmish it was about 305 (roughly 12c outside). Adding a further tight bore and better rubber /may/ nudge it over 350. Can't be sure though.
  18. I would try that, however with a 6.01 barrel + the new rubber it would probably push my FPS over legal limits.
  19. Anyone tried upgrading their hop or barrel? Im finding the accuracy with heavy BB's a bit average at best.
  20. I found the stock grip fine with gloves, without is a touch uncomfortable though. Wouldn't know what to replace it with.
  21. I managed to fit on an eglm on my stock g5 with no issue, looked silly though.
  22. Good news. GHK have made a 1J bolt and its up for sale at samoon. Should make the longer barrel usable for us. ACP airsoft are also making a steel charging handle for the G5, coming soon.
  23. Samoon's facebook page states August.
  24. Looking forward to the carbine kit, might leave the short length barrel in there though to keep the FPS down.
  25. The selector issue is because the RA-Tech parts are not well made. The selector paddle is sloppy due to the 'mickey mouse' hole they made for the selector arm to go into. The original is quite crisp, just obviously breaks. The sear is also shorter than the stock WE one. As for the steel, oil it regularly. My flash hider started rusting over after my first skirmish despite oiling, looked rad though.
