  1. I'm not sure the Zenit dovetail rail would clear the suppressor, actually. It curves up and basically fits pretty close around the cleaning rod.
  2. Yeah, I wanted SO badly to engage. They were so close, I probably could smoked half of them myself before our 4:1 numbers even kicked in. But no one else could see them, even after I explained where they were. But we were supposed to be a recon patrol and only make soft contact. We had the entire 2nd platoon as our recon element, which is far many bodies for light recon! I couldn't believe that 35 guys did not make a sound as that squad passed right in front of us. I was just thankful they couldn't see me (in the road), but I could barely see them even through PVS-14s. Which by the way made t
  3. Yeah we kept you guys pretty much completely on the defensive. I wish you'd come out to play a bit more. You can hear my whistle in the background of that video! Someday I'll figure out who we crossed paths with out in the fog on Friday night. I was on point with my NODs in front of our entire platoon element and a 9-man patrol crossed perpendicular in front of me at about 25 meters away, tops. I presumed they were NATO, heading back towards their COP, but I don't know. I couldn't get authorization to pursue or to break silence before they all disappeared.
  4. Yes, G&P DBAL. Someday to be replaced with a more pro unit – the safety issues of the G&P concern me somewhat although I of course use it carefully. I use it with PVS-14s and I gotta tell you, we conducted probably the single most successful night raid I have ever experienced/heard of during this event. It was just a murder beyond murders. The finger down thing is effectively "we put you in ground," hopefully that's all the explanation that is needed!
  5. You might! Did you check the JAG Precision Flickr page? They've got a bunch of stuff up there. And I'm sure once Dave or the other guy who was there put up their images... Anyway, here's some more rep rep rep:
  6. Posted this in the "in the field" thread but it's also a pretty good look at my rifle.
  7. Holding a ravine that we seized from American dogs at MSW's Road to Rostov.
  8. Wait, who are you? I've known you on here for years but it now seems certain you're someone I actually know and certainly was around at the event!
  9. The only other stock I've ever seen on a 74U other than the metal skeleton one is a PT-1.
  10. The perfect weapon for dual-wielding!
  11. Oh and as for mags, I like LCT 7.62 midcaps... but they're only 75 rounds or so. If that's not a problem for you, I've been very happy with them (except they will slice the *suitcase* out of your hands if you don't wear gloves!)
  12. It's an E&L AK74M. It is heavy as hell, but over the top? The only gadgets on there are light, laser, and optic – all of which I use on a regular basis. The only thing that is non-functional and maybe extraneous is the Schturm muzzle brake.
  13. You work for IRT? I know what it is... I meant that it's just a strange mix of old standard-issue stuff, FSB-specific stuff, dig?
  14. Oh, I guess I could post this... it's a pretty terrible photo of my FSB Alfa team AK74M in its near-final configuration. I still need to find a replacement pistol grip that I like, and someday that scout light should probably become a Klesh (for better or worse), but otherwise this is pretty much what I've settled in on. Will take a more official photo with a real camera soon!
  15. Super nice clean classic rifle. Piled on a very curious assortment of gear and camo, but I like it. You'll burn your hand off, kid! Fun build. I've certainly seen weirder/dumber looking RS guns. Fairly routinely, actually. People love to do wacky hillbilly AK builds for whatever reason.
  16. There are at least a few more out there. There's also the TWI (which is probably the highest-quality replica) and I think CORE/ZOT may make one as well. I had not heard of "NO13" before. The answer of which one you should get isn't easy. What AK do you have? Fitment on these stocks can vary a lot from make to make for AEGs, and you should probably expect it to require some modification if you want to preserve your sanity. Personally, with the ruble bottoming out, I would look into options for getting a real Zenit. At this point it might even cost less than the TWI. The problem is finding
  17. I have a Hephaestus stock adapter I can sell you. It wouldn't work on my E&L but I think it should work on other AEGs.
  18. Oh and I guess might as well post this, the very first airsoft gun I ever owned... TM AK-47. Had this for 7 years or so I think.
  19. Very nice, Candydad. Also digging that eunuch'd AIMS. ? Again, I'm not sure if you're even talking about the same thing, but Realsword makes only Asian AKs, not Russian. And none of them were ever 5.45mm IIRC, so the whole question of bakelite mags confuses me too. But there are numerous guides on staining your mags to look like bakelite. I've done them and they look acceptable. If that's still not good enough, plenty of hardcore people buy real magazines and modify them to take G&P midcap internals. Gets costly, but if you're that demanding on appearance, there's no other way. As
  20. In theory, yes. In practice... dunno. Might require modification or just not work at all. If you really want to build a Rifle Dynamics rifle, though, you should start from a fixed-stock model. AFAIK all RD rifles are fixed stock.
  21. Regardless of any inaccuracies, they're still more accurate than any other commonly available AEG on the market. Sometimes you gotta take what you can get.
  22. Don't take this the wrong way, but you really ought to slow down, ask some questions, and learn a few things from the various people here who know their stuff. Realsword make some superb quality rifles – but none that are even remotely correct for a "soviet fetishist" of any kind.
  23. Might be possible, but what's the point? You would spend less money and a lot less time just buying something with high-end externals in the first place. I promise you you won't regret it. But then again, I manage to do things like this to my guns, so high-end externals are a pretty important part of "skirmishability" to me.
  24. That looks brand new. I also wasn't aware they re-did/re-released the movie artwork!
  25. I recommended cyma as a very good entry-level brand. I've run 4 of their AKs over the years, from their cheapest 027 to the top-end 040 model, and I've been pretty impressed with all of them... for the price. DBoys are getting harder to find and were the only real competition in that sector of the market. Are JG any good? I dunno. I've never had one. I don't have a very positive impression of the brand overall, but who knows. I do know that their actual designs are pretty *suitcasey* in the reality department, but given that you're buying a "sniperized AK" that may not be a concern of yours. T
