I took a 2 mm thick aluminium plate, cut out the shapes and epoxied them together. Here is a pic of the cutouts laid out in the order they were glued together in:
And one of a test fit on the reciever:
Awesome I am doing something similar and looking for ideas on what to do, I took a JG AUG A2 and chopped the rail off with the intent on making an A3.
what kind of epoxy did you use?

How did you make the frame the rail sits on?

If you put the wear on yourself(which I feel is most likely) then go ahead and paint it, but if that much wear some how came from use and abuse, you better leave that as a trophy piece.

@FireKnife: OK that is fair didn't even bring the color scheme into mind at first, yes the shiny silver bits are a bit of a give away, suppose there may of been one or two times my pistol gave me away...
@Fox62: I don't want an exact copy of the gun, I like to add my own little design to it, makes it a bit more original that way. The mag release is checkered though... bit hard to tell. As for the mags it is a WE MEU lower and though I have traditional mags I have a lot like that to, they still work, so why not use them? May do the slide stop though, I cant reach it with my thumb yet still maintaining aim down range.
The pistol did start off all black... probably was a better "combat gun" then...

For sure Mike! Here you go (keep in mind you can build a much nicer gun if you want to drop more cash for the steel bits and not have to mod stuff yourself):Base guns:- ARMY R27 (MEU) Frame- KJW MEU slide (I wanted this one in particular because of the untraded slide, I might add the serial number for a Drake slide in the future.)Modified parts:- I polished the sides of the slide with up to 2500 sandpaper, and also polished inside the front serrations.- Polished A1 grip safety Dremeled into the an slightly extended "Ducktail" type.- I pinned down the grip safety, so it is always off.- I cut down the right side MEU ambi safety, and sanded the pin until it looked like a rolled one. I then polished the left side safety.- Polished ring hammer from a KJW MEU- The blowback unit is modded to work flawlessly with the ring hammer.- Fitted the KJW inner frame into the ARMY frame for a tight fit with the slide.- Polished flathead screws- A polished feeding ramp for better feeding- KJW MEU leaf spring and hammer partsAftermarket parts:- Element long slim slide stop for Marui Hi-Capa- AIP aluminum trigger for Hi-Capa- TSC CNC aluminum flat Main Spring Housing- Nine Ball outer barrel SAS- 1911 Auto wood Combat Grips (with carved etching)Also guys, as 1911 aficionados I totally get where you're coming from. The gun's cool for those of us who played the game, but as a 1911, it's a bit Japanese-ey over the top and doesn't exactly hold any historic value or makes a whole lot of sense as a combat gun. Plus I didn't exactly use the expensive, boutique parts on most of the guns on this thread. It would for sure be more interesting if it had custom built (from scratch) parts.Fox
Awesome thanks man But I am wondering how does it not make sense as a "Combat gun". all features are rather functional, minus maybe the cutting into the grip for the knife, never tested that. Extended slide catch, extended safety, commander hammer, threaded barrel, checkered front strap... Trigger is a little fancy I guess. I feel a lot of the pistols on here posted with the fancy kits on them that are way over priced for useless trades (yes useless, these are airsoft guns, not real kimbers/springfields:P Oh the heat I will get for this....) and such aren't very functional in comparison, and as for history who cares? If you choose to run a 1911, your making history for it and continuing it's legacy, keep it going! OH and finally... here is my 1911....
Has some paint wear in this photo... has a decent bit more now from use.... once it starts warming up probably going to strip it and repaint it.

K, so I had posted this build before, but I've changed a lot of stuff around (including the frame). So now it's much closer to the original, admitedly missing a few of the parts that just can't be bought or easily modded. But for the most part it's all there. I also know that LaZouche did this gun less than a year ago I think, but I wasn't particularly happy with a lot of the plastic parts and mods he used, I would much rather have a slightly incorrect, but full metal, solid parts gun. That's not to say he did not do a great job still though with the tough bits of this build.
So here's my Metal Gear Solid "Snake Match" 1911:
Fox
This is the best 1911 on this page... Just saying... My 1911 is closely modeled to this. Can I get a parts list?

Thanks mate, quite a late response, been meaning to. Yeah I had to put that there for when in tighter spaces and within 50-75 feet, much easier to aim with. Though I really shouldn't be using that on people within 100 feet of me considering it shoots 390 w/ 3s.......

I've been meaning to put up a photo of my aug for a long time, this is the current set up on my main AUG, though the suppressor is commonly switched between that or the flash hider, but I may start trying different suppressors in an attempt to find one more... suppressing.

Nevermind, upon youtubing a bit and such I found the outer barrel is most definitely different from the TM outer... Oh well, maybe someone will make one, or I can have my friend C&C me one. Anyway... Anyone ever find replacement parts for these? I was worrying about what happens when things start breaking... I can't find spare parts anywhere.
-
Judging from the look of those outer barrel pictures... this isn't compatible is it? http://www.airsplat.com/Items/UPE-TM-FN57-10.htm
Interested in a 5-7, especially the co2 part.... but I would like to put a threaded barrel on it. If not how thick is the outer barrel it comes with? maybe I can thread it.

Any chance you would know why these things became so hard to find? I was about to get one, waited a month to have the money, and now I can't find a single one anywhere! WTF mate O_O

For all intensive purposes... It is done.
Externals are all set now, minus what optics and such I will use. Most likely an EOTech replica or my elcan replica, and the small side rail will get a flashlight. I'll post pictures up once I have it all together.
Edit: One external piece is yet to be correct.... The charging handle. Can't find a true A3 charging handle. Oh and I still need to attach the front sling point.
As for internals (which weren't in the gun at the time of the picture being taken)....
13:1 ZCI gear set
Core double O-ringed nozzle
M110~20 spring
R-hop'd 407mm 6.02 Barrel
The internals were out so I could swap the cylinder out of the gearbox, this was originally my secondary gearbox for my other AUG when I didn't want to use it as a DMR, so I need to swap from a type 0 to a type 1 cylinder.
