  1. Shooters Design XDM kits for the MARUI xdm are drop in fit. Don't think the marui plastic barrel is going to last long in that Nova slide, better think of a way to make the nova barrel fit or get a third party replacement. Its the same for the nova kits for the 1911s amazing frame and slide but the outer barrel supplied is poor.

Excellent, best get saving for a SD kit then!

Anyone got pics of their xdm with a metal black slide on? Can't decide whether i like the silvery ones or not / if the black aftermarket slides change the look at all from the plastic one.

  2. To start, we need to know what size the bore is of the standard inner barrel.  If it is a 6.01, increasing to 6.08mm should drop you easily 20FPS.  However, a 6.03mm might as well...

I don't actually know myself, although as the RA tech precision barrel is 6.01 I would wager it was 6.03mm or similar stock.

Samoon's GHK spare part for it doesn't state the dimensions.

  3. I have not had had good experience with modding floating valves, especially plastic ones.  Wide bore barrels work great at reducing FPS without sacrificing range or accuracy.

Did anyone actually get a wide bore barrel to try out / one they know fits? If the carbine kit comes with the option of not buying the inner barrel, I may just invest in a wide bore instead of waiting for an npas :)

  4. Those 350 ish FPS were measured on a UFC chrono, the 320-330 on a Xcortec. I'd say, you're simply using the wrong type of gas. Abbey gas is made in the UK, don't tell me you can't get it there.

Or maybe something like Begadi medium Gas

Propane is my gas of choice. Green + Abbey gas are simply too expensive to run my GBBs with as a long term solution. If it fires hot on Propane, I'd rather find a way of restricting the flow than spend out on overpriced gas, but thats just me :)

  5. Had her out in the field yesterday. Awesome little gun. Very loud, heavy recoil. Hopup seem to readjust a little over time.

It was like 24°C outside yesterday (that's around 75-80°F) On the field chrono, she had around 350fps. On my own chrono, measued at around 28-30° in the attic, she's < 330fps, both on abbey predator gas.

How much lower do you want to go?

Not sure who the question is directed to, but mine was firing at 360-70fps, which is too hot for my local site (350fps) and definitely too for those 330fps CQB limited sites. Anything 330 and below would be great.

Not sure whether my friends Xcortech chorono or my local site's Madbull chrono is wrong, but the latter insists its around 320-30fps, whereas the former puts it at the above fps, firing hot. Suppose i can't complain, at least its not the other way round!

  6. Woah how did that happen? Were you using some stronger gas? Mine never had a problem(even shoot it in 30+ celsius on green) and im pretty sure it has the strongest slide out of all the Marui pistols as it has small metal inserts(tough not where you cracked it).

I got the pistol a few days ago second hand complete with a crack at the front of the slide, so I had a spare on order as soon as I got it. Managed about 150 shots off today (25ish degrees) with propane and the entire front section flew off!

Ooh didn't know about the metal inserts. I'll make sure to check that out on the replacement. Was debating whether to keep hold of the px4 or sell it on because the pre-existing crack made me think it was pre-disposed to breaking under propane.

  7. I had one of these holsters during the year I had my TM PX4. I don't really rate them as high as the Blackhawk's. They do look utterly gorgeous though, as the PX4 one mirrors all the trade marks from the gun onto the outside of the holster. What I found though was that the pistol could be released if you fell on the holster, which led me to a half hour frantic searching in bushes during a night game. Not cool.

My other beef was that it doesn't sit as close to the body as the Blackhawk CQC/L2/L3's.

Interesting, shall bear that in mind when considering my options. Thanks!

Further to my other past slide gave way after about 50rds.

  8. Thats out of stock :(

However, since posting that, i emailed TMC and they had one :D Gonna cost me $35 and $18 shipping, which makes it an expensive piece of plastic, but needs must...

That said, UK retailers could learn something from TMC. Excellent communication even when out of hours for them and even 15(!) photos supplied of what they're sending for peace of mind and to help out if anything goes wrong in transit. Pinnacle of good customer service.

  9. Spoke to a couple of people over he last few days and been told that the carbine kits are due in august and ra-tech have an npas coming soon.

    B-)

Source? Quite interested to know how all these gems of information get slowly released :)

Ugh, another inconsistent NPAS from RAT.

They're not ideal, but if it means I can actually use my g5 / make it site legal, I'll take it!

It'll be good to see how they release it, because the nozzle assembly is glued together so either they expect us to bath it in spirits and hope it comes apart or they'll sell it inside a replacement unit. It'll be kinda necessary if youre wanting to easily switch between cqb, carbine and marksman kits all the time too, if youre replacing the inner barrel too with those kits.

  10. Must had either been doing something wrong, or there was something very wrong with your gun.

Also, why were you using CO2 mags? There's a lot of reasons not to. People seem to think they work better in the cold; but they actually work worse, have less consistency, last less shots, are more difficult to load, and some other disadvantages.

It really is a very reliable, accurate, far-shooting, and consistent platform. An excellent base for a Marksman gun. It's a shame yours didn't work out. As I said, perhaps there was something up with yours, and you couldn't tech it correctly, or whoever worked on it couldn't. If the same part keeps breaking, there's obviously something wrong with that particular gun and not the platform, as that part's obviously not breaking for most of the people using it.

Well initially I assumed it was me doing something wrong i.e. not knowing my way round GBBs at the time, i loaded them up until i couldn't fit anymore in. But on the second nozzle i loaded about 28 a mag and was very careful with it after last time.

I would wager something wrong with the gun second time around, as I say I replaced the nozzle, fired about 10 shots with no undue pressure from overfilled mags or otherwise and it decided it didn't like that at all.

CO2...heh, well i found a bargain on CO2 mags and snapped them up to see how i got on. After a peice of bolt coming off and moving down through the trigger mechanism, i decided against it.

I have no doubt its a reliable piece of kit - hell, the whole reason I got one was because I was under such an impression! I do love the SCAR, I'm just slightly afraid of investing money into something that i can't reinforce the nozzle on like the WE M4. You really do love it, anyone would think I was insulting your child ;)

  11. Is his a newgen gun? Or something older? I've had the same nozzle for two years. And a lot of WE SCARs have passed through my hands, same thing. It's a very solid platform.

    Fox.

It's my (or rather, now not my) SCAR Stuey refers to. Mine was a gen3 version ordered straight from the factory (so i'm told by Iain at Milspec) so in theory it should have been the most solid. Alas, i couldn't afford the keep throwing consumable nozzles at it and also didn't think to screw something into it in place.

Aside from anything else, I ended up losing the rear sight somehow (self-unscrewing, apparently) and shearing off a piece from the back of the bolt when 'experimenting' with the co2 mags, so i quickly decided I would get rid of it before i managed to break it any further!

The first nozzle broke about 3/4 way through a cold cqb game after a fair amount of full auto bursts. The second time it broke though i think i'd only managed about 10 semi auto shots through it before it vented and I discovered that yet again it had gone. By this time i was being extra careful not to overload the mags with BBs either and generally tiptoeing round it :(

  12. Any news on the carbine kit that they are meant to be releasing? Can't wait to get my hands on one. Presumably will have to keep the shorter barrel inside it though, else risk increasing the FPS even further! (mine's with a techie for now until he can figure out how to do it - otherwise i shall have to buy a wide bore barrel)

Also, has anybody got a picture of theirs with an Eotech of some sort on it? Want to see if it dwarfs the thing before I invest.

Would quite like to put some of the ladder rail covers in tan on too  :D

  13. I am very surprised that after the years this has been on the market that there has not been any further after-market parts to attempt to alleviate some of the issues. I absolutely adore the 5-7, but I'm somewhat weary to invest after finishing reading this thread today.

I'm in the UK, so temperature wouldn't be so much of an issue, but the nubs wearing down (seemingly with no replacement option?) and cracking slides put me off, especially when its been as high as 32*C this week.

  14. I imagine I have probably done that at some point - what would that do? Hex screw doesnt seem to be loose if its the one you see move when you use the decocker?

Edit: Hell, ive done it a bunch of times. Is it a part I can replace easily?

  15. Decocker on mine now only works if I use the lever on the right hand side.

Any ideas? Literally only takes a tiny press on the right hand side to decock if I use the left hand lever first.

  16. Well, I've decided to Magpul up my G5, and I think it ended up looking quite nice :)

Push down on the piece of plastic locking the baseplate with small screw driver, and gently tap on the plate with a hammer.

The piece of plastic will fly out into oblivion when you take off the plate, so make sure you do the work within a plastic bag or something.

Thanks a lot, shall give it a go!

You can fit up to about 35 rounds at most in my experience.

Interesting, I can get 37 into mine without having to put too much effort into pushing the plunger on the speedloader. Does seem to vary a lot - I've a friend who can only get 20 into his at the moment!
  17. Anybody managed to open up a magazine? Can't get the baseplate off mine and it leaks (only slightly, but enough to empty in storage over time).

Can you give us the source?

    I am interested.

    A G5 mag weighs about 590gr with 30bb capacity, a G&P weighs 450gr with 39bb capacity.

So buying a G&P mag would be the logical choice at least if it keeps it's gas.

G5 mags have a 38 BB capacity. You need to keep the springs compressed for about a week for the tension to adjust so they're not ridiculously stiff so that you can fit that amount in.
