  1. i'm glad you think so, as none of it was scripted or rehearsed. The bloke just turned the camera on said "tell me about the weapon."

As for everything else here's a little fact for you. The MOD has introduced more pieces of equipment into the military in the last 2 years than it did in the 15 years before it.

  2. Did any one else see our old friend Dark Child on Disovery channel just then on Frontline Battle Machines? Demonstating the SA80 to the presenter and supervising him firing it.

bugger, i'm rumbled! I should be on quite a few episodes, as we filmed segments for every dismounted infantry weapon.

The presenter didn't have a clue, safety was very tightly controlled, he literally picked the weapons up, pulled the trigger and put them down. All other drills were conducted by me.

I hope I didnt come across too badly on camera!

  3. The MOD bought a million of them off the back of the sharpshooter trial (we asked magpul "do you make these in 5.56mm" they said "yes" and the rest is history)

First batch should have gone out with 16 air assault bde, so when the pics of their ops start filtering back, we should start seeing e-mags.

Personally i have been issued 6, so they are definately in the system.

  4. A guy on another forum was clearing out some fairly recent issue gear (I don't think it's controlled) and I spotted it tucked away in one of his threads.

It is an osprey assault mk2 cover and is classed as a disposable item, so nobody cares that much if people sell them.

  5. Yeah i know what you mean, my barrel is 7.5, cant stand long barreled weapons!

The DD RIS lite cost me £327 from midway uk. About 10 minutes after i bought it showed up as sold out on the page so i think i got the last one!

  6. I will try that, though i have always preferred optics far to the rear for some reason (probably years of training with the susat and real close eye relief)

    thanks for commenting.

  7. It occurred to me that i hadn't taken any pictures of my guns in a while. This is my Troy M7A1 cqb carbine, has served me for 18 months without a single problem, gleaming piece of kit.

Put a fair bit of work into it, will list bits if anyone cares.

  8. Indeed, allyness ftw. However, its not 1995 anymore and a giant smock is about as ally as wearing tropics in the snow, ie pointless.

Actual combat has taught us that we need kit that fits properly, your better off just wearing a shirt as it integrates better with armour/load bearing gear.

  9. Got to try on my mates Mk7 the other day was comfy, but i still think it should have been made with the US MICH style pad system instead of the Mk6A mesh suspension system. although i do like the double pop stud on the chin strap instead of the old 1 pop stud.

Pad systems were trialled but they absorb sweat and become a hygeine problem after a couple of days hard work. The next gen helmet is looking at having a pad system with the pads covered in leather.

The double popstud was brought in to assist with donning the helmet with a respirator (instead of using elastic/keyrings like we used to)

  10. Give UKTactical a ring, they are better on the phone then email, they may have them instock but not updated the website.

    This.

Seriously, it may cost you a bit but it is usually worth ringing them, they are quite slow to update their site as stock turnaround is so fast (they are very popular with the British army these days)

I would be wary of sites selling very similar kit too, only if you are hell bent on getting WAS kit, as the similar stuff is identical to earlier patterns of WAS stuff and not current gear.

This mainly affects the colouring, the older WAS Tan was too light and the OD was too bright.

Gear brands like Bulle and Built for Battle still use the old colourings and their construction is slightly inferior.

  11. Looking good darkchild, any words about Warrior quality? :)

    thanks

I used Warrior pouches in Iraq and a RICAS Compact in Afghan and none of it ever failed me. Quality is generally better than blackhawk,on par with Tactical tailor, paraclete etc.

@ DC: What exactly did you modify, looks like the QR buckles at the sides are an addition? Also, do you find having your water off-centre makes the rig unbalanced/uncomfortable at all?

QR buckles are standard. I cut an inch from each shoulder and re stitched the seams to make the vest less bulky, if you look at the TMV on uktactical,WAS TMV

its very wide across the chest. So I streamlined it.

And no,I dont find the orientation of my water affects my balance or comfort.

    Thanks for commenting:)
