  1. Could one of you STAR owners post pictures of the case that comes with it? Also, could you post how the MkII fits in it? thx in advance
  2. Hear Hear, Slo! Well said. No more Colts, TM, please. Or Mp5s either for gawds sake. What we need - is more SAWS! More inexpensive SAWs, more high-end SAWs, more boutique SAWs, more workhorse SAWs... You listening CA and STAR???? Mooooorrrrre I'd like more M60s, more Mg42s, more.... *drifts off into daydream*
  3. I think it comes down to this: if you want the upgraded externals, the look/feel, weight and operation as close as possible to the real steel, and some people do, get the CA. The Star as an airsoft weapon operationally has everything there it needs and at a much lower price and weight. And the externals easily pass the 10ft test (a car saying). Nobody yet has enough skrimishing on the Stars to know if they've got the endurance of the CAs. After all you've got some CA M249 approaching 100,000 rounds having been fired thru them in one season (mine among them). Thats ten years or more's wear
  4. Staticzero is absolutely right on the battery need to use this gun properly. From my usage (with a CA, but its close enough that I expect the two guns draw rate to be similar) even a 1700mah battery loses substainial ROF during a long sustained burst. Depending on the draw, you could be asking too much of your battery. The mah is not theoretically tied to voltage, but in reality, having a bigger mah pool behind that 8.4 or 9.6 volts driving it helps it to stay constant. If you're cracking the gun open to look for jams, I'd still check for shorts too. A short would also do alot what y
  5. Sounds like a short or an open circuit. Which battery is hot?
  6. I think the Star + a metal feedtray cover and you'll be in good shape from both functionality and looks while still staying light on weight. (Providing they have the long term durability, which we won't know for awhile, but there's no reason to suspect they won't.) Afterall, if you look at the pics on pg1 and pg9 between metal and plastic they look darn similar. "Up with SAWs. Do your part to end the scourge of AEGs with C-mags posing as support weapons."
  7. ...skipping a bunch of stock photos... on to feed tray. Feed cover closed: Feed cover open. Note spring on mechbox for cocking handle. Note also metal hopup chamber and ring for hopup adjustment, no tool required. I etched a + for more hopup side, because I have the memory of a hummingbird.... Feed tray with ammo belt feed guide clip down. Its stiff metal: BONUS PICTURE! Dummy ammo clip placement on there. Assume it'd work same on Star: BONUS PICTURE 2 - clip thing on box mag to hold ammo belt clip (circled in red) - yes I taped up innards of box mag - a ti
  8. Barrel Top. Heat Shield I skipped removing the heat shield to photograph. I'm lazy. But - its all hard metal, and held on like a rottweiler. Moving on... Carry Handle detail arm area: Note - my camera is making this look like its really super textured. Its not. Thats an artifact of the camera flash. Apologies again for crappy photography. Onward... Rear Sight. What is this concept called focus? Sorry, best I could get. Later ones are better of rear sight. Duplicating angles here from pg 1 Star pics... Rear sight from behind: Right side of gun.
  9. I know you were joking. I wasn't upset. Someone asked if we could post side by side external shots of the Star and CA. So I took a little time and tried to shoot the same shots as staticzero on my CA. Apologies for some flashbulb-induced crappiness of the photos. VERY strong flash. Also - the closest thing I had to the background of staticzero's was a carpet... Anyhow - I took most of the same pics. Skipped ones where I was lazy (disassembly) or there was difference (MkII vs Para) or there no need (box mag internals). Also - Be gentle; keep in mind, this gun has been used. So p
  10. I know about the edit button. Relax on the sling thing, I'm trying to be helpful - affixing a sling to the sights doesn't seem the best way to go. Eventually you'll move the front sight on its adjustment - if its not adjustable on the Star, well you're still torquing something you oughtnt. Now that I got home and could snap a pic, I can show what I mean - On the CA the actual sling point is metal (I circled it in red in the attached picture), but I needed more flexibility so I put a nylon loop thru the pintle mount point - see picture attached. I noticed you were using nylon cord, so you
  11. Ugh - tell me that nylon cord is not where you affixed the front sling point.
  12. I think the Star is an interesting gun. I own the CA. No problems with it. I wore out the piston after 60,000 rounds using a *(above forum limits)* spring. You'd be doing well with the Star if all you wear out after 60k rounds is a piston. Or any SAW. But I think the Star has a chance at it. It seems well enough built in the places it matters. I'm with Austin - EXTENDED testing will tell us wether the QA is there. I disagree on the two tone looking better than all black. I like the CA's all black choice as it is what the US military uses, not the two tone version, so for me it
  13. Don't bother with too big of an "O", since it also wouldn't have any problem putting several buslengths on that car. As I pointed out: Ugh - I just quoted myself.... anyway those are the Road Star Warrior's specs. Bone stock from Yamaha. As you can deduce, few but the very hottest cars out there (and zero unmoddified cars) stand much chance. EDIT: for the life of me I can't find information on any Hyundai, Tiburon or no, breaking into the 7s in the quartermile. I assume you were joking then. You'd be talking 1200-1400hp even in a tube chassis car.
  14. I wouldn't see why not, but you'd have to ask static for sure. It would be a nice way to add more metal to the gun thats for sure (that rear sight is ucky, but the rest seems nice).
  15. ??? I think most people would call a Ninja ZX-11 a crotch rocket. But if you're referring to the RSW in my avatar, it can handle itself. I've done the quarter a shave away from 11s. It'll outrun the ZX-11 to 60mph. It has a 45 degree lean angle, fully adjustable suspension (preload, rebound and damp), Kayaba inverted front forks from the YZF, 6pot dual brembos up front and 4pot rear disc. The engine? Not you usual enemic twin: 105hp, with a monster 138ft-lbs of torque. It'll handle 99.9% of the cars out there well into the century mark without beaking a sweat. And with that torque and the
  16. Oh wait I just saw this. ROFL - that thing can't even beat my wife's SAAB.
  17. Unless its running low 9s in the quarter mile I'm thinking it won't.
  18. That rice-a-ma-whatzit is wrong-wheel-drive. In case you didn't notice.
  19. Excellent review. Looking forward to your post-skirmish updates
  20. Don't take me wrong - my pants aren't in a bunch. Just having fun with ya. Its what us car guys over here do: good natured trash talking. All in good fun. ----- I don't know if I agree about the "you'd have more fun doing it" part. I have plenty of fun. As for a road course, really, the car can turn. Here's a pic of the g-meter in my dash. Note my recorded max values. 1.1+ g (in both directions) isn't shabby for a luxury car. (Yeah, the g-meter is a stock item.) But I'll admit, I like my track thrashing turning and braking so hard it'll yank out your teeth with a bit of se
  21. Last I looked, my friendly tater tot - the CTS-V is competing in the same IMSA and SCCA events that your VWs are running. And beating them. The V doesn't run nascar. Don't insult me. Oh you want to MODIFY THEM... oh. And then your VW would walk all over a V? Just like it didn't here? (Pay attention to the part where the R32 took longer to complete the road course, longer to stop, and lost a star to driveability. But credit to the heavily modified R32, it still tied the V for 3rd place.) Course, if you're an executive, you might want to pay attention to the best car for u
  22. My car: (sorry for the poor pic - its from my cell phone camera) All American. Cadillac CTS-V 400hp - (stock, and mine no longer is stock, heh) 6 speed manual - T56 Gigantic brakes - 13" 4 pots up front, 14" rears Handling out the *albatross*... so much it eats S4s and M3s and AMGs that get cocky for lunch. S6? Don't make me laugh. M5? Go home, bring more next time. I'll see any european car you want to throw at me on a roadcourse and hold my own if not outright spank it (up to Exiges and such dedicated track carts). Eh? Whats that? Don't beleive me? Another american blowing
