    Wow 'hippy, really?

Yeah yeah yeah, you don't care about my private life, I know, I know. However in the abscence of any kind of diary in my life besides the calendar on my phone (which I increasingly live by but very much doubt will still own 2 years from now ) I will record now that on this, Saturday the Fourth of November 2006, that I went out last night (the night of Friday 3rd Nov. [no sh** Sherlock? ] ) to the house where our labourer and storage yard operator (a Chinese guy called Billy [an assumed name, I suspect { - see Shi*, Sherlock, etc elsewhere in this article } ] ) lives with about 5 studen
  2. Yup, it is true. Free lunches for all! The theory goes that you can't have anything for free because if you don't pay for it, then some other poor sod, or even society as a whole, has to foot the bill in the form of slight price increases in everyone else's lunch, for example. But hey, thats everyone else's problem isn't it? hehehe I didn't actually get a free lunch, mind you. I got 2 & a half free dinners (at a regular price of £5 each, I might add), a free room in the hotel (bloody nice hotel too), and free beer all night long. I'll take that over any kind of luncheon you
  3. S**t. I lost, then. I seem to have been drunk at least 3 times in the past week, once on Tuesday for my mate Emma's birthday was okay, but then the day after I had a rather excellent massage (no, not in any way dodgy or suspicious you filthy-minded sods I went to a sports therapist; its reputable..) to ease my work-related injuries and then had a damn good meal afterwards, and in a moment of weakness I had half a beer.....which swiftly became several more half-beers Then Friday I had some beer, and Sunday I had beer, and bottle of Rum to myself as well (and a hangover all to myself today

    Sway of the Wagon

This old `abstinence` game is laugh, right? Actually its not too bad, and to be completely fair I haven't been completely abstaining from alcohol in the 42 days since I stopped drinking (thats `stopped drinking` for a given value of `stopped`, anyway. Or for `drinking`as well, in fact ). What I 've had to drink, in over a month now, comes to a total of: 4 beers, 4 glasses of some heinously sweet wine (that tastes like overly-strong sherry, plus lots of sugar, and multiplied by the the spirit of raisins) and about 8 shots-worth of the Whisky (read: moonshine) that I'm distilling in the kit

    One Step Programme

Anyone with knowledge (whether remembered or reminded) that they have done some, if not all the things this guy does, while drunk at an office party or official function or any kind of formal situation, guiltily raise your hands now.. http://www.cracked.com/modules.php?op=modl...article&sid=729 Aw, man. I don't do that right now at the moment, and its reassuring to know that after watching it But yeah, I have my hand raised high and its handy to have something like that to remember while I'm off the booze

    Wandering Weekender

Madness - why is it that when you have one really good prospect for an evening's entertainment about a dozen more turn up to contest it's worthiness?? This weekend seemed to be the very definition of selective socialising. I decided to go with the rarest in all cases just so I had something new under my belt, as it were. This breadth of experience now includes fishing. Fancy that. I never saw the point of fishing; you can sit for hours by the side of a large body of water with a bit of line on the end of a stick. You wont catch bugger-all for hours, if at all, and you do this invariabl

    Terms & Conditions.

O-kay, here comes the big pinch. Its day one of my year of alcohol abstinence, and although I have a couple of safety valves built in (hence the titular `Terms and Conditions`) this is gonna be one hell of a weird/interesting/challenging/enlightening/frustrating [delete as appropriate/implausible/unmentionable] few months... I have devised a simple set of rules, the simplest one being: I must choose not to drink at all times. I allowed myself an external factor in this year in the form of my best friend; Jason. He knows very well how much I shouldn't be drinking and I trust his judgemen

    The BBQ man cometh

Ah yes, barbecue season. My first barbecue of the year, however, is a rather grander affair than usual - so far it involves about 40-50 people, we have two spit roasted pigs (and I've made the full-size spit roast myself and welded it all up with my Brother just for the purpose!) for food, a custom-made brick barbecue at about 4-foot in height just for the spit roast, 4 smaller barbecues to cook all the steaks, kebabs, burgers and fish, 2 marquees, a bunch of high-powered halogen lights for the evening and a whole array of other stuff that has, altogether, cost me around £700. And on t

    Wet weekend.

Holy be-Jesus it was possibly the worst possible idea on paper: spend a weekend at a morris-dancing festival with a party comprising 4 couples and then muggins here all on his lonesome, on a soaking wet weekend in the middle of an incredibly expensive period when I really shouldn't have spent £160 in 2 days on beer and burgers. Yet that is what I did, and it was rather a lot of fun actually. Apart from having to shame-facedly return to the pub the morning after the night before, where I had spent far too long chatting up 3 of the barmaids at the same time, while actually standing next

    Debauchery!

*hic* Please forgive the boring and self-absorbed nature of today's post; I'm still a little drunk- hic -even now. I'm apparently working my way through being asked to leave all the pubs in Southampton for being drunk. (In a pub. Too drunk ) I remember that the barstaff chappie was so polite and tactful that he came and sat down next to me on the wrong side of the bar, and said that they were about to boot me out gracefully, so if I wandered off in the next 5 minutes that would be fine - very decent of the chap really and of course I knew as soon as he said that yes, I was the only pa

    Moment of Clarity

Man, its another hazy Saturday morning at work, I can't believe I thought I was going to have a quiet one, and ended up having a 6-pack and a bottle of red wine. I actually attempted some carpentry at some point, in a moment of drunken genius, because I guess I just didn't realise quite how drunk I was Amazingly, even after last week's incident, I still do possess all my fingers Its lead to me realise something again that I've noticed before many times, pretty obvious really but I'll go through the motions anyway (which, incidentally, is how I am managing to work this morning; only be

    a-Drinkin' & a-Smokin'

I wonder how many people drink just so they can enjoy a smoke, I know I used to actually do that. Its weird; telling yourself that your drinking all that booze just so you can really feel that elusive satisfaction that you once got from a cigarette. Of course its simply a delusion: you're a budding alcoholic and your drinking to get drunk, and forget things, but the thought process is there and it is very convincing. I've been loosely giving up smoking ciggies (well, rollups actually, I can't stand manufactured cigarettes as they are dry and f**king manky) for about 4 years now, and

    Drunken Master

You'd almost think that I've not been drinking since the last post on alcoholism wouldn't you? Not a chance. As I sit here sipping my G+T I realise how I have neglected this blog while I've been ill, and being drunk for virtually all of the same period hasn't helped me recover much. If only I could take time off work to get better, but then I realise the reason I can't do that is because I'll end up being p*ssed all day instead. Ho-hum; oh the trials and tribulations of being an evil hippy. As a vaguely related matter: I gave out my very first neg-rep yesterday, something I wo

    Oops, I did it again.

I was looking for how I had managed to smash a lightbulb this morning ...... after a 4-pack of Grolsch and a bottle of half-decent white wine on a Tuesday night I usually find myself looking for quite a few things. Sobriety being one of them, an appetite being the other main one. I was blatantly still p*ssed walking to work this morning, I would have been run down at the traffic lights if the usual thing had happened where some impatient sod runs the red light, thankfully though the good people of Hampshire were actually obeying the traffic laws for once I just realised it was
  15. I'm putting this under `alcoholism` because I've had a few ..... You might be able to tell The point I am (digressively) trying to make is; swearing is big, and it is clever. Go on, try it; swear a bit. Doesn't it make you feel mature, in some strange, esoteric way? 'Course it does. You wouldn't know those words if you were only 4 years old now, would you? That is the very definition of esoteric, and the very reason that swearing is both prized and feared by our youth. Precisely. It is `big`. Proven point, methinks. As for the intellectual content of your average swearword
  16. Well so much for the `short posts` idea. Sorry if you have to read all this (I'm sure some poor sap is being forced to do so at gunpoint, as some kind of light-yet-wearing torture) but these are simply things on my mind. Thats why we're all here, non? This is short, in fact, its only got a couple of lines left After a few beers at work (after work finished of course) and a Guiness or two I found that yes, indeed, my rinsing alcoholism was back in play and I raided the folk's wine rack, polishing off all but a glass of some slightly dreadful white of indeterminate grape. And wo
  17. Got drunk last night on a keg of New Heineken that had been brought all the way from the Netherlands to England, just for me. Sort of. The nature of it's arrival impressed upon me the right way to do business; it was brought, along with assorted other alcoholic presents for all 7 of my colleagues (including our accountant up North and the boss), on an exclusively `personal` trip that held no commercial prospects for the bloke other than the goodwill it engendered. And considering the guy who brought it, affectionately known as the Flying Dutchman because of the speed at which he can
  18. Guiness and champagne. Why not, eh? Lets take two great drinks and mash them up together, guaranteed to make us throw up all over the nearest parked car, ho-ho!! That's what I call a good saturday night!!!! One thing: It's actually friday. Another thing: it only bloody works, y'know. The glories of both create a substance that truly is greater than the sum of it's parts. How often do you actually find something like that? Not very, is the answer. Try it now for the sake of your soul (if not your liver, for that organ will be playing a particularly contradictory tune come t
  19. I know I've got a bit of an alcohol problem - I don't own a pub yet!! Haha!!! - yeah that's bloody hilarious until you realise that you drink on your own so much more than you do with other people that you now start to hide the bottles from your family. I know the signs. I try to put the beers on show now a bit, just in case, y'know, the old man says something; like he did last week and I defended it: I defended it!! The signs, people. That's one of them. *sips beer* And I'm not speaking in forum terms, I am actually ...*right there*... sipping a beer as I type. This wou
