What advantage does this one have over other tactical thigh holsters (ex. the one from mil-force)?

The primary goal involved in the development of the "SOC Rig" was to solve, for the genuine tactical user, the problems associated with effectively carrying and deploying a sidearm that is configured with an attached light. The SOC Rig reduces bulk, increases security, and enhances the user?s ability to deploy the weapon rapidly when needed. Further, the SOC rig is adaptable to any under mounted lighting system and can also be fitted to function with the handgun alone. This reduces the number of holsters necessary for a unit to have on hand and allows for upgrades in lighting or under mounted sighting systems without the need to refit the unit?s holsters. One holster is quickly adaptable to fit all mission requirements.

The SOC Rig has been developed and is manufactured by Edge-Works Manufacturing Company. Edge-Works is located in Jacksonville, NC and employs the use of high powered CAD software and CNC machinery in the development and production of its products. Such enables technical accuracy and high standards of quality.

The SOC Rig is a compact, secure holster that is adaptable to all the optional under mounted handgun accessories. The rig enables rapid deployment of the weapon and comfortable long term use. The SOC Rig is a radical departure of the current trends in the industry and offers features that specifically solve the unique challenges inherent in the tactical carry and deployment of the sidearm with a light attached. The SOC Rig reduces overall bulk via precision fit and by placing all seams along the center line of the holster.

The SOC Rig drop harness is padded, and layered for long use comfort and is fully adjustable to fit the specific requirements and preferences of the individual user. (variations of the harness pictured are also available) The SOC Rig is also adaptable to "On the Belt" carry platforms.

The primary component of the system is the "frame": This frame supports the weapon entirely and is CNC machined from a solid billet of high strength Delrin. The frame encapsulates the weapon from the top (or slide side) and ensures positive support and placement of the pistol via a barrel plug. The system achieves high strength and stability (no slop or rattle) unlike any other holster. The frame attains all that is necessary to control and support the weapon with out any interference to the under mounted accessory options,

The second component in the system is the "cowling": The cowling covers and protects the light and the trigger area of the handgun. The cowling is molded to a specific light or under mounted aiming device. As such, multiple cowlings are available and are interchangeable as need or mission demands requires. This enables the user the option to effectively carry the weapon alone (with no attachment) or with any of the under mounted accessories without reduction in carry or deployment performance. This also reduces the number of holsters a unit needs on hand as the SOC Rig can be quickly fitted by the end user with the appropriate cowling for the task. No other system can be as effectively tailored to the varied requirements of the tactical users.

Retention and deployment: Security is the primary function of the SOC Rig. However, as the handgun is often the "implement of last resorts and immediate need" the ability of the operator to deploy the weapon quickly cannot be ignored. The retention mechanism of the SOC Rig is a high strength, secure, rapidly deployable system suited to the needs of the tactical operator in real world environments.

The "release actuator" is available in a variety of configurations to include "low mount" (pictured) and "high thumbs" (not pictured). As the user activates the release, the "retention canopy" snaps forward making the weapon immediately available. As such, weapon deployment is more rapid then is possible from any other high secure carry holster. Further, the combined features of the frame, barrel plug, and form fitted cowling additionally support the retention of the weapon through a firm "snap & pop" fit. With the SOC Rig, Edge-Works Manufacturing Company has effectively solved the problems normally associated with the effective carry and tactical deployment of a sidearm with under-mounted lights or accessories attached.
