Here's what you can do with an ex service issue sock and OG t-shirt that's now too small for you. I'll be the first to admit, it may not be as specialised as burlap strips, concealment vests, or even good ol' disruptive pattern material. It does however do the job of breaking up the outline, and doesn't like half bad (at least it won't when I replace the current cable ties with some black ones).

what i've done on my barrel (when i scrim'd it)

was get shreds of old rip stop DPM jacket and a long stretch of scrim and some hessian or burlap to tie it up

 

it was easy for me because i have a threaded adaptor for my vsr, useful for a silencer or for when you want to scrim it up.

 

in the case of my threaded adaptor, i just put the scrim round the thread tube. and wrap it round loosely (not covering everything up) and stopping at the scope mount and VERY loose under so i can access my vsr mag well and is secured by tying it at the bipod or the sling stud as well as the scope mount. (i dont know how the m700 is stripped but how i did that keeps the scrim out of the way if i do need to strip my vsr)

 

i do similar to the scope and is much easier to secure scrim on there.

 

the next part i did was fluff up the burlap/hessian end parts

 

and tying the dpm strips on various length and width onto the scrim itself.

it does NOT have to be perfectly straight. and you DONT HAVE TO have the camo print facing outwards, in some cases, the reverse side works better.

 

in most cases, you let it mess itself up so it blends in even more.

 

if your scope has a large objectivev lens (i.e. 40mm +) i recommend you getting a sunscreen if you dont have one already and wrap scrim round the front of it (not only to minimise glare, it works nicely still as the large lens is still picking up enough light to show you a clear sight image) (i've tried it on a 50mm without sun screen, and with a sun screen, both worked out nicely)

 

note to the people that has a habit of being very close or inside bushes, scrim sticks to it as if it wants passionate sex with twigs and bushes. sometimes treebark too. so watch out it gets ripped apart as you're running off.

 

now that i'm even more lazy. i've given up on the scrim stuff as i like to clean and maintain my vsr every once in a while, but the laziness had made me paint it instead. it doesnt work as well as the shape's still there but it's good enough

 

edit:

you have to remember camo types and how it looks generally is adapted for your local area. to exaggerate it, arctic camo for snowy places, and desert usually doesnt do well in woodland areas.

and also your playing style as well. as airsoft 'sniping' is still close enough for the eye to work out someone wearing camo. and most of the time, regular cannon fodders behind a tree or a bush gives their position away with the gun sticking out.

 

so basically. do what you think goes well with your gun, playing style AND most importantly. the area you play most in. i find real tree camo works a treat. found in hunting stores and a fair variety can be chosen at your local gun shop or hunting shop. and most of the time, the jackets/shirts that are adequate for airsoft is much cheaper than BDUs

 

you can also get 'gun socks' that literally slips on your rifle.

just cant find the one that i like the look of yet

i think bushman's idea on gun sock with ghillie sewn on top is an awesome idea. easy to put on and off. but still offers the advantages of breaking up the figure ;P

Then I got a British Army surplus Sniper's Veil (£5.00 - bargain!!), and tied the front to the bottom of my scope mount.

I have tried many styles of gun cam over the years.

 

This was my carbined VN version (with carry handle replaced by a rail). I made it way before the M4 or SR16 were released btw. I wrapped it in scrim net/scarf. Also a small bit of pigeon hide cam was tied on (that had fallen off my ghillie).

 

This is my old APS2 MK2 I used pipe insulation to make a barrel protector with a plastic endcap I bodged. The pipe insulation was cut to cover the full length of the barrel above the woodwork. Also a foam cover was made with slots for the scope rings. It was shaped to not hinder cycling the bolt. This covered the reciever only. Then the whole gun was covered in british army socks with the toes cut out. electrical tape (black) was used to secure it every so many inches. Then woollen cam net, was chopped up into small sections and tied around the front section of the gun. As you can see the muzzle and scope are still easily visible and something i worked on. The endcap was painted, with one half, a much lighter tan. While I tied more shreded hessian to the front of the scope. I have tried using scopes with scrim tightly tied over the front optic. However, I feel that it dulls the image too much for my tastes and blurs your vision. Hence i used uncovered 20-40mm optics.

 

This is my old KJW M700P with advantage timber gun sock. These are about a tenner on ebay.co.uk. You simply cut out the bits of it that are required on your specific rifle. ie cut where bolt and moving parts are exposed. Also scope mounts and magazine slot along with trigger guard. Be sure the gunsock is well clear of moving parts of the bolt, on which it could become entangled. Scrim has been lossely wrapped around. The bipod has alsorts tied to it. Again the optic is very visible but something i did not address, as I never gamed with the KJW. I just learnt it on the range. The endcap was hand painted painted brown.

 

Below are 2 rifles camed with advantage gun tape. I only camoflagued the M14 btw the G-Spec is a friends. The optic has 20mm front objective and helps greatly to conceal yourself from closer scrutiny IMO. I ran out of advantage tape on the M14, as had already done another 2 guns with the bargain amount I fluked on ebay . The rear of the gun and tacky shiney woodwork will be covered once i get some more. The only reason it's the wood version is the OD version was not available at the cheapest supplier. The mags were sprayed OD but still reflect the light IMO and once I get more fabric tape, they will be covered in it.

 

Here is a fellow hunter with the gun sock in action on his G-SPEC. Notice the position is ideal to suit his ghillie and the sock too. It shows that no matter how good your cam is, it is not prely generic and cannot suit all backgrounds. I guess you have to move in areas that suit your cam. Changing local cam is only viable in pairs and still takes time and leaves you vulnerable.

 

I have no recent picture of my lastest set up, which is m40a1 with the 1.5-5X20 super wide angle scope. Although currently it is similar looking to the KJW, but with the less visible front optic and shorter, to boot . Still not addressed more cam for it, as not gamed it over the winter.

this is me on sunday, because my local site doesnt have the longer type games to allow me to actually be still to wait for the guys to come get shot, there's no need to hide as well as these guys, so i've now lost all my scrim and attachments, it's now full of krylon. as i cant be bothered to wrap it up

Seen this thread and have read through it, so i've just cut up some old dpm trousers (wouldn't fit anymore and i mean they wouldn't).

 

Going to try and camo up my m14 later, got plenty of long strips of dpm from them trousers and some smaller bits to tie the rest on with.

 

If i can be bothered later i'll post some pics up of how i got on.

i tried tying BDU strips onto my rifle, it didnt really work out well. looks kinda bad IMO, hessian/burlap would be better.

he's only attached long thin strips of DPM material to his scrim that is basically just more like a sock around the gun.

(since snipers take 2seconds to load up the mags) spend the rest of the time to throw some mud and dirt from the field to dull out the colours a little more... so it's not as obvious as the BDU. trust me, a clean BDU stands out like a sore thumb

Jim - I got the Sniper's Veil at an army surplus store here in Brighton called Uncle Mike's.

 

I'm really too dumb to upload pictures.

 

I have a game next week, but I have my doubts about this camo. I'm thinking that the types of game I play aren't really sniper-friendly anyway, and the camo might just complicate things, with regards to moving/setting up quickly.

Touch Medic rules really aren't overly sniper friendly l4b, thats why I dont bother going overkill on the camo, you have to move far too much for it to be of much use, plus i get stuck on enough trees as it is

Hey Urban Ninja, that game looks very speedball styled and reminds me of what I used in a speedball tournament years back. The most minimal ghillie possible as stealth is only of limited use in a small arena. Movement is everything in speedball.

lol sorry im used to the G-Spec, I'll just imagine its my M14, more likely to be closer to the weight you lug around.

But still, find its alot more user friendly when we have a deadzone game, or when they actually have to tie the bands around them. But seems their not really used at EAG much.

Got my camo sorted now, think it looks pretty good

 

Abit annoyed though tried charging up my batt this morning too k it off the charger not long ago, put it in my 14 only to discover that it hadn't charged, think my charger is knakered. Have to buy a new one now, dam chineese chargers

The chinese guns come with free battery and charger but apparrantly these peripherals are of very low quality and often don't work. Some suppliers state they will not replace them even if they don't work from new. Expect to buy decent batteries and chargers for clone AEG's.

 

Let us know if the gun cam helped you get closer than normal.

Not sure about that charger now, think i'll have to buy a new battery and charger, and i'll have to switch the connector around. These chineese guns they cost less but they give you some grief sometimes though this one has been faithfull to me for awhile now.
