Marines prefer EoTechs to AimPoints.

The info on flight suits is also out of date, as FR Marines now have MARPAT utilities that have a special flame-retardant treatment applied to them.

'Marines prefer..." is a horribly wide statement. Some Marines prefer Aimpoints, some prefer EOTechs, some prefer ACOGs, and indeed, some prefer no optics at all. It comes down to the individual user. You can see them all being used, so any of them would be fine on an FR loadout (in the right place, obviously).

The info on flightsuits can't be THAT out of date as I have a friend (now deployed with the Navy) who trained with Marine units but a few months back, and they were still operating under those rules. Must have changed pretty recently.

Out of interest, got a reference on those new MARPAT utils? I'd be interested in tracking down a set... ;)

Do Force Recon not use OD vests? Are they only issued in CB?

HellsAngel  ;)

They used to, but CB is now issue and there's a BIG push towards ONLY using CB gear now.

Let me re-state... I have not seen any (or very few) recent pictures of FR Marines utilizing AimPoints. They all seem to be using either EoTechs or ACOGs.

Ask the experts in the FR pic thread. They tend to stick around there. I know. I've asked questions here (in the Gear forum) and in the pic threads forum and had them answered there a lot sooner... if anyone at all replied to the questions in the Gear forum. And the answers I have recieved there have been a lot more authoritative than those I've gotten in the Gear forum.

You're right, it's the FROG program - I'd TOTALLY forgotten about that after hearing about it some months ago.

It's funny you talk about the EOTechs though, because in the pics I've seen I tend to notice the Aimpoints more, heh. I think it's pretty safe to say you'd be fine using either in an impression, though. ;)

I should probably have specified earlier on that FR isn't really my area of 'specialisation' - I don't have an FR loadout, although I'm moving steadily towards seriously considering doing one. However, I've seen an assload of FR pics, and we have 3 or 4 guys on our team doing FR kits, so I tend to come across a lot of good information. :)

FSBE is the old-skool stuff that's basically been phased out and replaced by the new CB Eagle stuff. Depends what era you base your impression off.

Sorry to backtrack, but era? FR were using FSBE's just a year and a half ago. MOLLE hasn't even been around that long. I remember the Army getting the new FLC back in the late 90's and that really started it all.

You want old-skool, you want that old PointBlank flak vest they used in like the 80's. BTW PointBlank makes the FSBE and the Interceptor. But that's probably common knowledge around here.

When I say 'era' I mean 'gear era', if you get my drift. Gear goes in cycles of stuff being issued, and we're now in a different cycle to the 'old' FSBE kit. That's what I mean by 'era' - it was probably a bad way to put it but I couldn't think of any other short way of saying it. :)

Heads up on the CIRAS angle! UN Company is selling a Tango replica CIRAS (maritime) with wire releases and some pouches for $130. They had another CRIAS-looking replica, but it looked kinda shoddy. Was by SWAT $156 and way less in the pouch department.

Plus http://www.scopeandlaser.com still seems to have Phantom CIRASs in stock. Maybe they're not as gone as we thought?

OK, would this work for a Force Recon loadout:

* BHI CRCH with M4 pouches, pistol mags, Admin, and a couple utilities with hydro pack on back

* KA PACA

* Drop leg SERPA (can't afford the safariland)

*OD Nomex flightsuit

* tan desert boots

* MICH helmet

* M4 with somekind of opitcs, PEQ2, vert grip amd big *albatross* Surefire light.

:mellow:

How can you afford a SERPA and not afford a Safariland?

Unless you're looking at getting a SERPA CQC holster, that is. A Safariland 6004 holster only costs ten or twenty more dollars than a SERPA Tactical. And, honestly, I'm very impressed with how solidly built the Safariland 6004 I own is versus the SERPAs that my relatives own (my father owns one for a snub-nosed .22LR J-frame and my uncle owns one for his Kimber Grand Raptor).

I used to have an old school FR kit... was awesome :D

Though it was very specific. The FSBE was only used by them.

CIRAS can now be used for so many different loadouts...

would it be ok for a greenside loadout just to wear an RRV with no PACA?

i am also starting a force recon loadout and at the moment i have an eagle industries molle RRV on order and i should be getting some marpat soon so if there are no objections and this thread is still going i will post a picture of me and what i have as i also need some advice, or i might just do that in the force recon picture thread either way.

Um I was in Marine Corps Security Forces and I was issued a FSBE, there were more units than FR issued FSBEs. Oh and they use Ciras Maritime kits most of the time by the way, we got rid of most of the land versions cause the flap in the front is a pain in the butt.

Yes, FR and MARSOC are using MARSOC 1911s, thats pretty well known. And yes, they are built at Quantico generally on Colt or Kimber frames.

As far as the holster discussion, guys use whatever they want. I have seen Recon units out here in Iraq with 6004s and the more common SERPAs. We have a lot more SERPAs in the supply system so you end up with those, you will also notice that a lot of guys use old school cavalry shoulder holsters and thats not limited to FR, but service wide.
