Stealthbomber
Some moderation is needed, I agree. Posts with "user posted image" where every photo once was should be deleted, since they contribute nothing at all to the discussion. Blatant flames and retorts should be sorted out, also. But as far I'm concerned, the most a moderator should step into a semi-intelligent discussion should be a gentle "*ahem* " or something similar. As long as it's pertinent, it should be allowed.<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ha! We DO agree. I already said that some discretion would be required. "What sort of scope is that?", "It's an XYZ", "Whoa, that looks so much better than the ABC's you normally see." is fine. It's when the 3 page debate breaks out about whether XYZ Scope IS better than ABC scope that the threads need moderating.
Pablo
Funnily enough, I've suggested we need a picture forum mod for a while. We do our best, but we already have a shedload of stuff to deal with, what with idiots bumping sales, ridiculous signatures, random catfights, wot am best gnu threads etc. Don't bother volunteering for the job here though, it's in Arnie's hands at the mo. Bengali
Don't bother volunteering for the job here though, it's in Arnie's hands at the mo. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> didnt think volunteers ever got the job anyway? so as its in the hands of the big A, does that mean there WILL be a picture threads Mod and we are waiting the announcement of who? or does it mean the Arnster is currently deciding wether to make one? or just that it has been put to him and he hasnt mentioned it either way. id like to see a picture threads mod some time soon,
Pablo
I'll go with C please, Bob.
Hoppum
Can you make sure any new picture forum mod is someone who regularly uses the subforum. There's been plenty of times before when off topic spam has been reported and a global mod comes in a deletes every post for the last few pages that's not a picture including on-topic discussion. Marlowe
That will continue to happen for the simple reason that picture threads are for pictures and discussion threads are for discussion. If you have a picture thread which wanders into discussion, it's invalidating the whole point in categorising the threads into seperate areas, so it's important that the distinction remains clear. Hoppum
Change the sub forum name/description to 'Appreciation Threads - For specialist picture/discussion threads' Edited July 27, 2007 by Hoppum
Bengali
Change the sub forum name/description to 'Appreciation Threads - For specialist picture/discussion threads' <{POST_SNAPBACK}> i cant remember what forum it was, but a few years ago i was browsing one that had pictures and discussions seperate. at the end of each post in the picture threads was this link... Discus this image you click the link and it takes you to another thread where people are discussing the pictures, when you post in the discussion it adds a link to your post to show which picture your discussing. probably be nigh on impossible to do here since it would mean re-writing some fundimental parts of the forum software. but its an idea. davedawg123
I think ASR had some system like that.
Sledge
Just a thought, but the forum had grown a hell of a lot since it started (we're over 30,000 members now, IIRC). Rather than having a handful of Global Mods trying to deal with everything, why not start creating more subforum mods?
Marlowe
We're in the process of trying to identify suitable moderators for the picture thread section. Suffice to say anyone pming or begging to be made a mod will automatically be disqualified from our list - the needy ones are always the last people you want to give any administrative rights to. Sledge
So, it's a total change from the normal moderating recruitment process?
davedawg123
Maybe it's a test. Those who can rise above the fear of asking will be the ones given the opportunity.
Marlowe
So, it's a total change from the normal moderating recruitment process? No-one's ever become a Global Moderator like that. It works by a member being recommended by the majority of the team. Apart from in that one case with- Oh, right.
Pablo
So, it's a total change from the normal moderating recruitment process? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Scandalous lies. Go to your room and think about what you did.
Sledge
I went to my room, but then I found Resident Evil 4. Now I'm trapped in a loop where I check Arnie's, get told to go to my room, play RE4, come back a couple of hours later, get told to go to my room... you see the problem.
