UK Police Armed Response/CO19

Recommended Posts

I say a safariland because my CO at air cadets is a police officer and he organised a night for armed police to come down and show us all their kit, and one of them was using a safariland now me being a propper geardo i ended up talking to them about kit he said he had no problems with it but his colleague had a belt mounted one only because he didn't like drop legs (the reason being he found it easier to draw from the hip rather than the thigh).

Two ARU officers visited my college last week, and they were both using Sig P226s with a Torch of some description in dropleg Safariland Holsters.

(Chatting to them later on they told me that they are switching their Sigs for Glock 17s as they are cheaper.)

They were useing sig p226s  I thought all armed responce units use glocks 17s. As I thought the p226 was a millatary sidearm not a civy police one, o well.

I cant rember were but I saw a armed police man with with a mp5 a5 with a 15 round mag in it. May i ask why not the usal 30 round mag.

Off topic why were they at your collage for?

South Yorkshire Police still use Smith and Wesson Autos but think they are shortly changing to Glock 17's as they don't make the parts any more.

The 15 round mags are used because it is highly unlikely for an officer to actually fire thier weapon, even more unlikely to need more than 15 bullets if they do.

eh? how does that work? surely, if they already have the sigs, then buying a whole new weapon system isnt cheaper?

Kit looked bang on at the weekend Leadmill :)

Was really impressed with the look and feel of the BCP you guys were running.

And that damned shotgun has some range on it :P

Cheers :) You certainly gave us a run for our money thats for sure!

Beware the shotgun of doom! Even I had no idea of its range!

Well they have to take into account availability of parts etc. May be cheaper to buy and maintain Glocks in the long term.

IIRC Military and Police Customers get a hell of an after sale program from Glock pretty much amounting to free parts and technical assistance. Glock also offer excellent training programs for armourers.

Just like to say I love your loadout Leadmill. Looks really, really spot on. I've seen ARU kits before, but none as nice looking as yours.

If I wasn't so err...round...I'd probably try to do an ARU kit.

Been a while since i've skirmished in mine, mostly been used for TV work as of late. Going to try and get to a skirmish Oct/Nov I think.

How often have you been used for TV work, Leadmill?

I assume airsofters are used rather than extras with BF-guns because they're somewhat cheaper, the owners probably know what they're doing (posing etc) and the guns don't need so much security as a blank firing gun?

Cheers Marksman, I need to focus on getting my AEG's finished and up to spec now!

I've used my kit for a film called 'Bulla'. That was with an Extra/Background Artiste agency who specialise in supplying individuals with thier own kit to the industry. I've done Shameless and a BBC drama called The Accused too, but that was with another agency that supply most of it and just ask I augment bits and bobs with my own. A friend got me into it and its quite a bit of fun, pays well too.
