Equipment subforums suggestion...

I'm new here and have looked around only a bit, so I might be overlooing essential features of the site...

 

I'm a moderator on a scuba diving forum, which is also an equipment-intensive activity. Over there, we have sections set up so if a person wants to ask questions about which piece of kit to buy, or opinions on kit, problems, etc.

 

It would be great to have an equipment section with subforums broken up like a retailers site: Gas pistols, Electric pistols, optics, flashlights, lasers, etc...

 

After my first look around, I don't see anything like this here....

There is a section for pistols, and a section for Sniper rifles. fair enough, there isnt for accessories, but there're so many it'd be really hard to do. same with AEG's.

I'm afraid that I think it really would be overkill. There is only so many subsections you can have within a forum of this size before the whole thing becomes unworkable. I can see how it would be beneficial, but as such discussion is already well covered, I can't see any justification in adding such future sections to the site.

Let's not forget that the Review Database already exists.

 

True, people cannot use it to ask about specific items but, if anybody else owns one there will likely be a review in the database and, if nobody else owns it then asking about it is pointless anyway.

I prefer it the way it is. ASF is rather annoying to browse because there are a bajillion different forums to look through new posts in. Here, I have just a few that I check when I come on for new posts, which saves me a fair amount of time.
