And Im just curious.. Why do people use cantis instead of a standard high mount?

 

And dont cantis not have a see-through hole?

Ideally a cantilever mount is used so that the scope or aiming device can sit above and out of the way of another mounted device.

 

And yes, there is a small hole at the base of most of them that you can see through.

And iron sights can be used while the AP is mounted correct?

Hm, well, mine kind of can... but I can't look through the hole at the bottom. You'd need a VERY low profile BUIS to do it. Instead, I can just use the flip up iron, look through the rear peep hole, through the AP (turned off), and line it up with the front sight.

Yes.

 

When I have an AP mounted, I only use it for quick engagements. If I need to do precision aiming, I'll use the ironsights. It's good to have a flip-up BUIS so that there's nothing in the way of the AP while you're in the heat of battle, but you can flip it up when the time comes for real aiming.
